Minnedosa is taking a muchneeded and significant step forward in expanding its housing options for seniors and active retirees with the launch of the Minnedosa Active Living Project.
Spearheaded by the Valley Life Housing Group (VLHG) – a not-for-
profit organization representing five municipalities (Harrison Park, Minto-Odanah, Oakview, Clanwilliam-Erickson, and Yellowhead) and the Town of Minnedosa – this initiative is designed to provide a modern, community-focused housing solution that allows residents to age in place while maintaining their independence.
The project took center stage
during a public information session held on Feb. 1, where organizers presented the latest developments. The event saw an impressive turnout of 140 attendees, reinforcing the region’s strong demand for affordable, supportive housing options.
Sabine Chorley, one of the project’s key advocates, says that interest exceeded expectations.
“The turnout was incredible,” Chorley said. “We received quite a few applications, as well as sponsorships and donations towards our fundraising goal.”
With applications now officially open, the overwhelming community response underscores the need for accessible, high-quality housing options for Minnedosa’s aging population.
The Minnedosa Active Living Project has been in development since 2019, shaped by extensive community input and the work of a dedicated volunteer committee. A 2022 community survey highlighted key priorities, including affordability, accessibility, and proximity to essential services.
