Every Day

Missing one day per fortnight adds up to missing four weeks of school a year.

The Shepparton Education Plan is reaching out to leaders from across our multicultural community to ensure everyone gets the message that when it comes to school, Every Day Counts. Messaging delivered in English and in the many languages that make up our community now feature on posters and social media posts. Counts

Ensuring ‘every day counts’ is heard by all

“Every day counts” is gaining traction with Greater Shepparton’s multicultural communities as the Shepparton Education Plan (SEP) takes the school attendance message to new audiences.

Posters and social media posts promoting the many benefits of being on time and at school every day can be found online and in many Shepparton and Mooroopna shopfronts, thanks to participating businesses.

The messages remind students and parents how poor attendance can really add up – for example, missing just one day a fortnight equates to four weeks of lost learning a year.

“It’s more than missing out on important learning,” SEP Project manager Jenni Gibson said.

“School is where we make friends, have fun and develop our self-esteem and sense of belonging.”

School attendance trends across Victoria and the country need to be lifted and Greater Shepparton is no exception. The city has an added challenge of having about one-in-five households speaking a language other than English.

“School attendance is no better or

worse in our multicultural communities, in fact education is highly valued by many who are new to Australia,” Ms Gibson said.

“However, everyone needs reminding that consistent, on-time attendance is critical to success at our schools and we want that message to be heard in every home.”

Maintaining good attendance means not running errands or making appointments during the day, avoiding holiday breaks during the school term and always keeping your school informed around unavoidable absences.

“Being unwell is a valid reason to miss school and we know there can also be a religious or cultural reason behind an absence,” Ms Gibson said.

“It’s important to contact the school with this information so families can work with teachers to manage any unavoidable absences.”

To reinforce the “every day counts” message across the multicultural community, posters and messages around the importance of school attendance and how absences quickly add up have been translated into languages including Arabic, Urdu, Hazaraghi, Pashto, Dari, Persian and Chinese.

The Shepparton Education Plan has commenced working with our multicultural community leaders to further help with translation and video

Inspired learning for students of all ages in Kialla

St Anne’s College Kialla is a Foundation to Year 12 Catholic learning community where faith, wisdom and learning come together.

At St Anne’s College we nurture the spiritual, academic, emotional, and social development of every student in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment.

From our youngest learners in Foundation to our graduating Year 12 students, we aim to inspire hearts and minds to grow in faith, strive for excellence, and align our lives with the Gospel values of love, forgiveness, understanding and respect.

We are blessed with a dedicated team of educators and support and administration staff who work in partnership with families to ensure that every child is known, valued, and challenged to be the best they can be.

As a Catholic college, we place a strong emphasis on community, service, and the development of moral and ethical values that will guide our students throughout their lives.

We are committed to high-quality teaching with our world class learning program, Magnify Sandhurst, and care deeply about student wellbeing and the development of the whole person.

St Anne’s College opened in 2019, offering an amazing new campus with modern learning facilities.

Woven throughout our building’s design is a strong connection to the Yorta Yorta peoples, with symbolic references to the Yorta Yorta totem – a long-neck turtle.

The long-neck turtle has been reflected in the very design of our learning environment.

Architectural elements echo this inspiration, with hexagonal patterns symbolising the turtle’s shell, the form of the exterior roof reflecting its protective shape, and the long entrance way representing the turtle’s neck reaching out to welcome all who enter.

Together, these features create a physical and symbolic reminder of the values that underpin our community.

Academy in Shepparton enhances outcomes

Having a Shepparton branch of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership is directly impacting the education outcomes of hundreds of our young people, Bourchier Street Primary School teacher Ebony Peters says.

Miss Peters ought to know. A product of Wanganui Park Secondary College and the Shepparton campus of La Trobe University, she has long made the most of having professional learning available on her doorstep.

Now in her fifth year of teaching, Miss Peters was the Victorian recipient of the Outstanding Early Career Primary Teacher award in 2024. The honour qualified her to take up the Academy’s year-long, flagship Teaching Excellence Program.

“I’ve also been able to gain training in literacy and trauma at the Academy, which allows me to share these skills with colleagues and get the best outcomes for my students and my school,” she said.

The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership began in Melbourne’s inner city in 2021 but soon branched

out to seven regional centres, including Shepparton.

Opening at 17 Sobroan St in 2023, the Shepparton site offers teachers across the Goulburn Valley the opportunity to collaborate, engage in professional development and learn new skills and practices from expert educators.

“As a teacher you are also a learner, and I wouldn’t have been able to gain the same amount of learning if it was only available in Melbourne,” Miss Peters said.

“Having the Academy here also allows collaboration between familiar faces from local schools, which benefits us all.”

For Miss Peters, it has been a key driver in delivering the best learning for her students, every day.

Despite her early career achievements, Miss Peters wasn’t always destined for the classroom. Her initial plans were for accounting, and she also spent a gap year in the military.

“I love how every day is different in being a teacher,” she said.

“I wouldn’t have had that in accounting!”

The Academy is an Australian-first and dedicated to delivering teaching excellence and advanced professional learning for high-performing teachers and school leaders in government, Catholic and Independent schools.

“Having the Academy here also allows collaboration between familiar faces from local schools, which benefits us all.”

Grahamvale Primary School

Education tailored for each student

At Grahamvale Primary School, students are empowered to grow as confident, lifelong learners who build strong, positive relationships. At the heart of the school’s approach is a commitment to tailoring education to meet the needs of every child.

This dedication has led to the development of the ‘GPS Way!’ — a shared framework created through sta collaboration and guided by the school’s core values of Respect, Personal Best and being Inclusive. These values shape daily life across classrooms, specialist programs and the playground.

Principal Luke Simpson explains that clear expectations and consistent routines help set every student up for success.

“We pride ourselves on building relationships with our students and explicitly teaching the expectations that align with our school values,” he said. This shared understanding extends beyond the classroom, strengthening the partnership between home and school and fostering a strong sense of community.

Bourchier Street Primary School

Small classes, strong values and a community that cares

At Bourchier Street Primary School, we believe three things matter most, great teachers, kids who care about each other, and a community that works together. Everything we do comes back to those three things.

This year’s Foundation team, Liarna Galiardi, Todd Broadbent and Suzanne Stewart are experienced, dedicated and genuinely love working with little ones. Across the school, our teachers collaborate, keep improving their practice, and are completely focused on

getting the best out of every child. Small class sizes and straight year levels mean your child won’t slip through the cracks. We want our students to be more than just good learners, we want them to be good people. Through our Best Always motto and our values of Respect, Learning and Contribution, we help children build confidence, resilience, and the kind of relationship skills that stick with them long after they leave primary school.

And none of it works without a strong school community. We actively welcome families into school life and acknowledge the critical role parents and families play in students’ education. Relationships and communications are at the center of school’s community engagement strategy. Our before and after school care supports busy families through the week, and our door is always open.

school ensures that students have opportunities to explore their interests and develop new skills beyond the classroom.

Ardmona Primary School is now taking enrolments for all year levels for 2026 and is available for school tours for parents and families.

All Saints Anglican School

Growing with the community

All Saints Anglican School continues to grow alongside the community, with exciting new developments shaping the future of learning in Shepparton and the surrounding region.

This year marks a significant milestone with the completion of two new Junior and Middle School buildings. These purposebuilt, modern learning spaces have brought fresh energy to the campus, providing vibrant environments designed to foster collaboration, curiosity and creativity.

From the first day, students and staff have embraced the new facilities with pride and enthusiasm, already making the most of the flexible

layouts and contemporary design. Landscaping works are due for completion soon and will further enhance these welcoming spaces.

Looking ahead, attention now turns to Stage 3 – the extension of the STEAM precinct. Scheduled for completion as the school welcomes its first cohort of Year 10 students and fast-tracking VCE learners, this exciting development reflects a strong commitment to delivering contemporary, future-focused education.

The expanded precinct will feature purpose-built laboratories for physics, biology and chemistry, enabling deeper inquiry and hands-on experimentation. New performing

arts studios will nurture creative expression and performance, while a dedicated woodwork studio and VCE-standard art studio will provide professional environments for practical skill development and artistic excellence.

Additionally, the school will be constructing a roof over their two synthetic Netball/Basketball courts; constructing a AFL/Cricket oval; and extending the internal road network to open a new entrance/exit to the property to their western fence line.

As a growing school, All Saints Anglican School remains committed to meeting the evolving needs of families. Guided by their values

of Faith, Integrity, Respect and Excellence, the school offers a high-quality, low-fee Christian education, welcoming students of all faiths or no faith.

With modern facilities and a strong foundation of care and community, All Saints continues to invest in opportunities that inspire every student to flourish.
