This oasis of fun is perfectly situated in Melbourne Street opposite the Mulwala Water Ski Club and offers hours of enjoyment for the kids and parents who consider themselves young at heart. After all the fun why not buy a treat from the kiosk or whip up a meal on the barbecue facilities provided. Ample parking is available and Tunzafun is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm, all public

Multisport continues to grow T
he popular Yarrawonga Mulwala Multisport Festival Trialthlon continues to grow in strength. This year the event to be held on October 19 and 20 will again be a ITU World Qualifying event as well as part of the Victorian State Series. reasures of yesteryear, collected over more than 70 years, are on display for all to enjoy at Chrysties Museum in Tocumwal. The Chrysties collection is one of the best private collections of eclectic antiques, collectibles and rare finds you will ever come across. The collection is the result many years of dedication from owner and namesake George Chrystie and stretches over an incredible four
acres. “I don’t think we could be called just a car museum or a collectables store because we have something here for everyone,” George said. Indeed George is true to his word and prides himself on presenting a collection that boasts ‘having one of everything ever produced in the 20th Century’. From his prized Ford Zephyrs and 1930s-40s caravans, one of a kind tractors - even many farmers would
never have seen before- hundreds of old kerosene lamps to old newspapers and magazines, if you can think of something made from metal or wood, chances are George has one. Chrysties Museum is located just out of Tocumwal on Thorburns Road and is open Saturdays and Sundays and all public holidays from 10am to 4pm or by appointment, phone 0427 791 202.

Travel “The Narrows”, where the mighty Murray travels through its narrowest stretch. View the beautiful Barmah and Moira Lakes and wetlands while hearing about the history, birdlife, flora and fauna of the area from qualified and experienced crew. The tourist information centre for the area is housed in the fantastic Barmah Forest Heritage and Education Centre on the Murray Valley Highway, at the Southern end of Nathalia. The centre is open 7 days a week and houses regular exhibitions of art, photography and other cultural events, together with a static display giving a pictorial history of the Barmah Forest and its influence and impact on the area. This is centre is must stop for all visitors and a great spot to grab a cold drink or a coffee, some local produce, post cards, gifts and souvenirs, while you meander through the centre. Situated on the West side of Blake Street in Nathalia is The Grain Store, a small exhibition space for local artists and a home to regular exhibitions, cultural events and workshops. earning for the ‘good old days’ when music was tuneful, melodic – even rousing? And fine craftsmanship was admired and appreciated? Then visiting Numurkah is a must during the weekend of Saturday and Sunday October 19-20, when members of the Australian Mechanical Organ Society (AMOS) will be holding their Annual Rally. Mechanical organs were once popular street entertainment throughout England and Europe. Large fairground mechanical organs with more than 100 pipes to small hand-turned 20 note organs, many home-made, some bought, will entertain locals and visitors at Numurkah along the main street and also at the Lions Club Foreshore Market on Saturday morning. The
organs will again entertain at Cactus Country and various other locations around the town and district in the afternoon. On Sunday the organs will then be out playing music in the community. Monichino Wines, Cactus Country and Café 3641 in Strathmerton are some of the venues that will be hosting the organs for you to listen to, inspect and admire. Members will be travelling from Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia and Victoria to play at the Rally. A full list of venues will be advertised before the weekend. Animal antics at the Mansfield Zoo
H
ave fun meeting the animals at Mansfield Zoo – or even camp overnight if you dare. If you love animals and family fun, there is plenty to enjoy at Mansfield Zoo. The zoo features a large menagerie of animals from across Australia and around the world, including two rare white lions, two tawny lions, monkeys (marmoset, capuchin, rhesus and bonnet), deer, camels, bison, alligator, wombats, kangaroos, meerkats and much more. Take the opportunity to pat one of the friendly dingos while the lions are fed at 1.30pm on weekends and Victorian holidays all year round. You can celebrate a memorable New Year’s Eve with lion feeding at 7pm and the zoo closing at 10pm; great for families looking for something different. You can also feed most of the animals by hand every day while you wander the expansive grounds. A small spade is provided to feed the more gregarious animals, like the camels, who will run off with the spade if they can. 40th Oxley Bush Market M
ake sure you visit the 40th Annual Oxley Bush Market on Saturday, November 2 at the historic Oxley Shire Hall. Launched in 1980 by a small group of young Oxley residents, the bush market was a real trailblazer for what, now, have become regular events in most localities across the country. The 1980 market saw around 25 stalls featuring a range of homemade, home grown, home-produced and new items from the local North East Victorian area. The Oxley Bush Market grew in subsequent years to a vibrant annual event, now featuring stalls with the same focus on mainly local, genuine produce. This year the Oxley Hall Committee received over 400 applications from high quality stallholders keen to participate on the day. However, space in and around the historic Oxley Hall (1875) limits stall numbers to 175. Traditionally held on the Saturday before the Melbourne Cup, the market commences at 9am and continues until 3pm. Locals and visitors alike flock to the township to soak up the ‘country’ atmosphere and purchase the amazing range of goods on sale. The Oxley Shire Hall Committee, which organises the event, is anticipating an extremely successful ‘ruby market day’. Hall secretary, Janet Heath, said the

And, as usual, this year will feature many ‘first time’ stallholders as well as a host of regulars offering unique goods at great prices. “The Oxley Bush Market is a great place to kick off your Christmas shopping. “Gourmet food, drinks and toetapping music all add to the festive atmosphere, with many people meeting up with friends and enjoying the vibrant surroundings.
“The market is in full swing right up until closing time, so those wishing to avoid the morning crowds will find everything happening all day. “Another highlight is the Oxley Residents’ Association’s Monster Community Raffle drawn from about 2.30pm,” Mrs Heath said. Mountaingrass festival back again!
M
ountaingrass, a unique event that focuses on two forms of Americana music will be back for the second time at the George Kerferd Hotel in the Mayday Hills complex at Beechworth, this year from November 8 -10. The Mountaingrass festival presents concert performances by bluegrass and traditional (American) old-time music from acts from the United States, New Zealand and most states in Australia. This year will see four acts from the USA. Claybank is a five-piece bluegrass band from Nashville, Tennesse that are making their name on the US festival circuit and have just released their third album. South Carolina Broadcasters are an old-time trio featuring Jackson Cunningham – a brilliant musician and luthier. Mike & Ruthy are a duo from the Hudson Valley in New York. Their other band is The Mammals, who have played Port Fairy and the National Folk Festival in Canberra. Sonoran Dogs from Arizona will also perform. They played Mountaingrass back in 2016 and blew everyone away with their ability on their instruments and their incredible harmony singing. Mountaingrass also encourages and supports local acts with a number to play at the exciting event this year. Also featured are bluegrass and oldtime music slow jam sessions for beginners, a fully acoustic concert in the chapel, a blackboard gospel concert on Sunday morning, an instrument makers display (and sales) and lots of opportunities for all attendees to share with each other through jamming and picking sessions. One-hour workshops on traditional instruments, vocal harmony and performance skills are also available and run on Saturday and Sunday mornings. A raffle is run each year, usually for a musical instrument and other related items. This year Cole Clark have assisted with a beautiful steel-string guitar and Chip Bragg has made a custom leather and sheep’s wool strap. An anonymous donor has also provided a condenser microphone, ideal for acoustic musicians or the
recording studio. Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Mountaingrass Young Performer Grant where $1500 and
complementary festival tickets are given to applicants under the age of 25 who show talent and commitment to acoustic instruments and vocals. Mountaingrass is supported by local businesses and community groups including The George Kerferd Hotel and The Linaker, The Gatehouse, Beechworth Ghost Tours and the Mayday Hills Arts Society. The event is organised by the Australasian Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association (ABOTMA), a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of bluegrass and American old-time music in Australia. The festival is organised by volunteers primarily for members of ABOTMA and lovers of bluegrass and old-time music. The general public is most welcome to come and enjoy the beautiful music.

Celtic weekend on your doorstep

his year marks the 25th year that the Beechworth Celtic Festival has been running and as always everything Celtic will be celebrated from November 8 - 10. The program this year is bringing back some old favourite events and characteristics of years gone by. Firstly the festival will be coming back to the streets in the centre of town with loads of free events, such as Celtic music, pipe bands and Celtic dancing. The very popular Friday Night Celtic Concert Old Gaol will also make a return this year with a great line up of Celtic music with performers including Claymore, Sasta and the Caledonian Castaways. Three local celebrated chefs will be preparing a wonderful Celtic themed dinner with an ode to the haggis while the wonderfully talented Elizabeth Sutherland Celtic Harp player will be providing the dinner music. There will be also a food court and Celtic markets in the Main Street of town on Saturday with massed pipe bands to entertain the masses and the very popular Celtic dinner set to return inside the Old Gaol that night. Action packed spring for Pfeiffer Wines

pring is in the air. The weather is warming up and the days are getting longer. It is time to shake off those winter blues and start planning where to go and what to do in Rutherglen. Be sure to head to Pfeiffer Wines this spring as they have an abundance of activities on offer that can be enjoyed with family and friends. On Sunday September 29 the winery
hosts its annual Spring Farmers Market. From crisp vegetables to speciality cheese and handmade pasta, there is something for everyone. Talk to passionate producers, taste award winning wines, spot a shy platypus from the wineries historic timber bridge, or simply sit under the century old pines and enjoy the incredibly beautiful music

The festivities continue the following weekend when quirky and colourful scarecrows, made by the community, will leap to life amid a spring celebration of Shiraz, sausages and song. The festival, Scarecrows Sausages and Shiraz, held on Saturday October 5 and Sunday October 6, features talented musician Richard Perso performing both days. King Valley BBQ will be on hand with their delicious slow-cooked meats… and of course sausages. The winery will also have current vintage and limited museum release award winning Pfeiffer Shiraz's available for tasting and sale all weekend. Prizes will be awarded for Best Scarecrow, Best School Scarecrow, Best Business Scarecrow, People's Choice and Best Living Scarecrow. The festival is free and runs from 9am Saturday and 10am Sunday. Throughout October the winery will also play host to the Wodonga Albury Camera Club with a Photographic Exhibition that celebrates the 180th anniversary of the invention of photography. This is a wonderful opportunity for this keen group of photographers to exhibit their work and all of their
photographs will be for sale for the entire month. Entry is free and the exhibition is open during the regular cellar door opening hours. And if that is not enough to spring you into action, the winery will host a second Photographic Exhibition in November, this time by the highly talented and well-known local photographers Ann Killen and Paul Blake. Self-confessed happy snapper’s, Ann and Paul are addicted to catching the light and recording the beauty of the four seasons of Rutherglen through their lens. Their exhibition, entitled “A Bridge with a View” will feature many photographs the pair has taken of the views, vines and wildlife at Pfeiffer Wines, from the wineries Sunday Creek Vineyard and Sunday Creek Bridge. All of the photographs on display will be available for sale and a 2020 calendar featuring pictures entirely from the property will also be available to purchase throughout the month For those wine lovers out there, dropping into the James Halliday 5 Star award winning cellar door at Pfeiffer Wines this spring is a must!
