Get out on the Edward
The best way to experience the Edward River, as many Deniliquin locals will tell you, is on the river itself. And it’s now even easier to do just that, with Deniliquin Canoe Hire launching this Christmas. “The Edward River is the jewel of Deni,” said Scott Bradley, owner of the new business. “And it’s one that’s only just being discovered by more than just our regular visitors.” The new attraction will offer patrons an all-inclusive self-guided tour of the Edward River. There are two types of canoe available – a two-person ‘Canadian’ canoe and a smaller single-person option. Starting from the Deniliquin town centre, you will be driven the Four Post Camp where your canoeing adventure begins. You’ll be equipped with a life vest and a comprehensive map of the river, which includes information on various viewing points along the route. Finally, you cast off from the sloping banks of the Edward and float along the firm current. Take in the natural sights as you make your way to Willoughby’s Beach not far from the Deniliqun CBD, where you will be picked up and returned to you pick up point. “There’s no hassle and no rush; just enjoy it at your leisure,” Mr Bradley said. The trip will take about four hours to complete, with 8.30am and 1.30pm start times available. Tours are ideal for adventurers of any age. The Edward River is host to an array of stunning watering holes and beach fronts.
Willoughby’s Beach is a great location for swimming, fishing, and camping in the forest, all while giving you the opportunity to watch the sun rise and set on the river. You will find plenty of areas to camp, perfect for those wanting a bit of privacy, and there are also larger areas for the whole family and your friends. If you want to experience the Edward River like the locals, Willoughby’s Beach is where you can start your river float. Set aside a few hours, jump in the water with your floating device and supplies, and let the current take you downstream to McLean Beach. McLean Beach, in the town’s west, is a popular spot for locals and visitors. For the young ones, there is a dedicated swimming area. This beach is also popular with boaters and skiers, with a boat ramp situated right next to the beach. Other facilities here include a barbecue area, toilet facilities and plenty of car parking. The kiosk at the adjacent McLean Beach Caravan Park is a short walk away if you need a few extra supplies, or a special treat. McLean Beach also offers a gateway to the Beach-to-Beach Walk, which will lead you through the town to Willoughby’s Beach in the east. For those looking for something extra to get the adrenaline pumping, the Edward is a haven for water sports. With a wide river, some great bends and What’s On Summer 2021-2022 3
brilliant summer weather, young and old give water skiing, wakeboarding, or tubing a go. Whichever way you choose to enjoy the river, don’t forget to capture those memories on camera. The Edward makes for breathtaking photos, especially in the early morning or late in the evening. Whether it is a group or family photo, or a shot of the scenery and wildlife, it is sure to look fantastic. Then you can take the Edward River with you everywhere.

Music on the Plains Play on the Plains is back, and it’s bigger than ever. With headline performances by Australian megastars Amy Shark and Spacey Jane, the Deniliquin festival is shaping up to be one of 2022’s biggest events. Supported by triple j, the March 12 event is a oneday festival that turns the iconic Deni Ute Muster site in to a dance floor. The gates will open at midday, with eight artists offering live music right through until 11.30pm. Food vans and licensed bars will be available. Deniliquin bus company, Dyson Group, will be operating charter buses to and from Echuca/ Moama, Mathoura, Hay, Cobram, Barooga, Tocumwal and Finley as well as a shuttle service to and from Deniliquin Town Centre. Adult and junior (13 to 17 years old) tickets are $120, and under 13s get in free if accompanied by an adult ticket holder. A booking fee applies to each ticket purchase. The artists:
Amy Shark After honing her craft and self-producing her music for years, Amy became a household name in 2016 with the release of her breakout hit, Adore. The emotive single put Amy on the map as one of Australia’s most formidable emerging songwriters. Amy’s regional tour in 2019 picked up the ARIA award for ‘Best Live Australian Act’ and 2022 will see Amy hit the road once again — including Deniliquin along the way.
Destrends Destrends features former Deniliquin man Matt Savage as the lead singer. The Melbournebased band will open the festival, and Matt has teed up his bandmates to give his hometown and its visitors the show of their lives. Destrends is a post-punk collective, creating an angular, bass-driven sound. They have built a reputation as a distinctly theatrical live outfit. With a sound influenced by early 80s new wave, Destrends produce a confident mix of gloomy punk with some real Aussie grit.
Spacey Jane This Fremantle indie rock foursome has well and truly cemented its position as one of Australia’s most-loved bands over the past few years. Spacey Jane spent the first half of 2021 finally getting to play sold out COVID safe shows across the east coast of Australia, including the inaugural Play on the Plains earlier this year. Spacey Jane will finish recording their second album this year and have international tours slated for early next year.

Float for a cause After a year off in 2021, the Big Deni Float will return in 2022 promising loads of fun and great prizes. The float, which will take place on Australia Day (January 26), sees participants float along the Edward River from Willoughby’s Beach in Deniliquin’s east to McLean Beach in the west. Floaters are asked to assemble at Willoughby’s from 12.30pm, for a 1pm start. Once everyone arrives at McLean Beach, there will be an afternoon of games, eating, drinking and prizes.
There will be Yabbie races, thong throwing and a sausage sizzle, plus a raffle and prizes for best dressed floater, best decorated float and more. A charity event, the float raises money for the Deniliquin Volunteer Rescue Association.
“The VRA is a much needed and incredibly important organisation to Deni,” she said. “So come along, enjoy a day of fun at the beach, in the sun and help support them.”
This year’s funds are expected to contribute to a new rescue boat.
The float entry fee is $5. While registration will be accepted on the day, floaters are encouraged to preregister to give organisers an idea of numbers.
Event co-organiser Telysa Towler encouraged everyone to come along to help raise money for a great cause, and “float for a boat”.

FISHING CLASSIC Get back on the water in Deniliquin this February, for the 25th annual Deniliquin RSL Iron Jack Fishing Classic. The 2022 event will be held from February 18 to 20 and, aside from the fishing, will feature a massive Prizearama evening and a family fun night at Classic HQ – The Deniliquin RSL Club. The Prizearama draw on Friday, February 18 boasts a $10,000 prize pool, starting from 7.30pm at the club. Tickets will be on sale from 5pm. It forms part of a huge cache of prizes up for grabs during the weekend, valued at more than $100,000. You could also win one of four boat prizes, or land the $25,000 tagged cod. Saturday night’s entertainment will include food and bar facilities, live music, kids activities and trade sites in the RSL carpark and adjacent playground. The $5 boat raffle prize – a $13,950 Dundee 390 boat with Yamaha F25 4 stroke engine, rigging and 4.4 trailer – will be drawn on the night. Also drawn will be the early bird boat prize - a Digger 340 punt, with Yamaha F5 4 stroke engine, rigging and 4.3 trailer, valued at $7,550.
Anglers can start fishing from 7am on the Saturday, until 5pm. Fishing resumes Sunday morning, and closes at 11am. Entrants have a 45km stretch of the river in which to try and land a Classic catch, and there is a 5km stretch upstream of the Four Post Camp designated for kayaks and electric motor vehicles only. The target species this year are Murray cod, golden perch and carp. Once a fish is caught, it must be measured on an officially approved brag mat, and photographed and sent to the chief marshal. Your photo must clearly include your registration and the entire fish with clear measurements. As a catch and release event, fish must be released, with the exception of European carp which should not be returned into the waterways. Adults can enter for $45, while junior registration (15 years and under) is $20. Pre-entry for the fishing classic is open now. Wake action on the Edward The Edward River at Deniliquin lends itself nicely to water sports, which sees some of NSW and Victoria’s best flock to our banks every year. The Deniliquin Boat Club has hosted a round of the Wakeboard Victoria championships every year since 2017 — except the COVID-19 impacted year in 2021. This summer it hosts Round 4 and 5 of the ability based competition, on Saturday, February 5 and Sunday, February 6. But the wake action will be extended to also be held on Friday, February 4. There will be demonstrations on the water and athletes will even stop by the club’s ski school — hosted every Friday night from 5pm during the ski season. They will share tips and tricks with young students. There were 75 competitors and at least 300 spectators when Deni last hosted a Wakeboard Victoria competition round, in January 2020. And organisers are expecting similar numbers in 2022, if not better.

NAPONDA GARDEN EXPO Esteemed Gardening Australia presenter Sophie Thomson will be the special guest at the inaugural Garden Expo 2022. Hosted by the Deniliquin Naponda Hospital Auxiliary, the two-day event in March is a must for gardeners of all stripes.
The first, ‘gardening for health and wellbeing’, will begin at 10.30am and delve into the synergy between personal health and horticulture.
Learn, mingle, and celebrate the joy of planting alongside local greenthumbs. Attend the informative and entertaining workshops presented by Australia’s favourite horticulturalist.
The second is ‘how to drought proof your garden’. Held from 12.30pm, it is a must for any gardeners living in the oft-arid conditions of rural NSW.
Sophie’s pedigree includes presenting for the ABC’s Gardening Australia program, contributions to some of the nation’s most esteemed mastheads, and authoring several bestselling books on gardening. Day one of the expo is Sunday, March 20, and will be hosted at the serene ‘Marong Station’, north of Deniliquin. Here, Sophie will present two workshops.
Between workshops, browse the collections from local hobbyists and businesses, featuring stalls by Bonsai Bob, Leaves & Vines Nursery, Naponda Store, and native plants from the Gormans. On Monday, March 21, Sophie will present another workshop at the Deniliquin Community Garden, in Whitelock St, Deniliquin. The theme of this workshop is ‘growing your own’, and will include tips on composting.

Beginning at 10.30am, the session will be followed by a scarecrow competition, featuring contributions from the public and local schools. Sophie will announce winners for both categories. Poor shots find the huge trees that line most of the couch fairways, but players spirits may lift when the opportunity affords them a view of the courses superb location on the edge of Murray Valley Regional Park.

But on those days you wish to just relax, or escape the dry summer heat, each of the communities in this district feature an array of ways to cool down. We explore some of

If you’re not enjoying McLean or Willoughby’s Beach, the Deniliquin Swim Centre’s three outdoor pools and splash park is the place to be. The splash park features sunflower showers, water guns and a dump bucket. There are also toddler friendly elements including a leaf race and bucket filler. The splash park offers sun protection for its users with two shade sails sheltering the equipment. While it’s not likely to be your first pick over the summer months, the Deniliquin Swim Centre also has a heated hydrotherapy pool. Newly updated facilities are also available at the pool, which is located in Poictiers St and right next door to the Scott’s Park Adventure Playground.
Barooga Part of the ever-expanding Barooga Adventure Park, the toddler-friendly water play zone alongside Bullanginya Lagoon includes a gentle water slide and splash pad designed with younger children in mind. There’s also a spray loop, and interactive ground sprays. The Adventure Park area is a winner with older kids too, with four individual trampolines, two flying foxes and a huge climbing frame keeping everyone busy for hours. It is located on Golf Course Rd.
Berrigan Berrigan’s pool was renovated at the end of 2019, with new facilities to compliment the large and children’s-size pools. It also has multiple shaded areas and enough grassed area for the children to enjoy. It is located on Momalong St, Berrigan.
Finley The Finley Memorial Pool reopens this summer with new facilities too. The new modern, fit-for-purpose building incorporates change rooms and toilets tailored for families and the disabled, as well as a new kiosk area. The large L-shaped adult pool has enough room for all families and a shallow pool is also available for the younger kids. It is located on the Newell Highway, just north of Finley’s CBD.
Coleambally At Coly, swimmers have free access to a 25-metre lap and recreational pool, shaded medium pool, and shaded toddler’s pool. The facility also includes change rooms and shaded picnic tables and a barbecue. All children under 14 need to be supervised by an adult. The pool is open six days a week, closed only on Mondays, and closes early on Fridays for Swim Club. A privately run senior water aerobics class also uses the pools on Wednesday and Friday mornings during school terms. The pool is located on Falcon Road, Coleambally.
Corowa Visit the newly constructed Corowa Aquatic Centre located on Edward St, Corowa. It features several aquatic and leisure facilities from an outdoor 50m Olympic sized pool, an indoor 25m heated pool, splash park, café, and a merchandise shop – just in case you forgot your togs. A refreshing and resourced facility, the Corowa Aquatic centre is a must for locals and visitors alike this summer. Looking for a more natural option? Then explore the various natural waterways Corowa has to offer, from the Corowa Lagoon, the Memorial Park, and the Lions Park there’s plenty of spots to take a dip in the mighty Murray River.
Darlington Point Darlington Point has a wide selection of ways to cool off this summer. The Darlington Point War Memorial Swimming Pool includes a 25m lap and recreational pool, shaded medium pool and shaded toddler’s pool. It also includes a kiosk, change rooms, shaded picnic tables and barbecue, and is located on Stock St. There are also 15 beaches in and around Darlington Point, situated on the Murrumbidgee River. They include Swaggy’s Beach,

Hay Come down and enjoy Hay’s brand new Splash Park at the John Houston Memorial Swimming Pool! Entry is free, thanks to Hay Shire Council. There are three pools in total — an Olympic size swimming pool, a ‘medium’ pool, and the toddler’s pool, which is completely under cover. Surrounding the pools is an extensive, well-maintained lawn and numerous shade structures. There is also a barbecue and volleyball net, both of which are free to use. The usual swimming season is November through to March, and the pool is open seven days a week.
Jerilderie Almost $2 million in upgrades have recently been completed at the Jerilderie Swimming Pool. A new 25m, six lane lap and recreational pool and new shaded wader’s pool with water fountains were part of the works, as well as a new amenities block, lighting, and shade sails. You’ll also find a 25m lap and recreational pool, shaded medium pool, change rooms, shaded seating, and a barbecue. The pool is located at 119 Jerilderie St, Jerilderie and thanks to a Murrumbidgee Council subsidy entry is free in the 2020/21 swim season.
Moama Home to an enormous ‘floating playground’, Moama’s Aqua Island is a great opportunity to cool off and burn some energy. Located 500m east of Deep Creek Marina, the island features several jumping platforms, obstacles, and slides - all connected and floating in a large, clean, and refreshing lake – a must see for any fans of the TV show ‘Wipe Out’. Moama also boasts two perfect spots to camp and cool off this summer. Moama Beach offers visitors one of the best places to access the Murray River for swimming and recreation. Access to the area is found at the end of Blair St, Moama. Betts Beach also offers a chance to relax and take a dip, with access via Simmie Rd in Echuca. Here you can swim in the shadow of the iconic bridge that links NSW and Victoria. Relax in the water with views of the beautiful scenery, Echuca Wharf and wave to the historic paddle steamers chugging past.
Oaklands The Oaklands Swimming Pool caters for all ages and provides seasonal swimming lessons. Set within the centre of town, just walking distance from the main street, the facility features a 33-metre pool, toddlers’ pool, kiosk, change rooms with hot showers, plenty of grass and picnic facilities, dedicated and personable lifeguarding team. learning to swim or you’re just wanting to cool off on a hot day, there is plenty of room for all abilities.
Tocumwal Visitors and locals alike flock the Murray River, and particularly Town Beach, when they are in Tocumwal. But if you’re looking for something a little different, or your little ones are not a fan of the sand, the splash park on the Tocumwal Foreshore is the place to be. The features are designed to reflect Tocumwal’s proud WWII history as a US and Royal Australian Airforce Base. A B24-style dumper bucket take pride of place, and there are water cannons, ‘propeller’ showers and more than 100 other water features. The town pool is also a short distance from the splash park, and both are located near the CBD.
Urana The Urana Aquatic Centre is a unique and serene attraction. A man-made lake developed on the site of Urana’s original water supply reservoir, perfect for water skiing, fishing, bird watching and just about any other water activity you can think of. With the play equipment and 5km walking trail, there is plenty to do for the whole family. A perfect place to drop in a line and try your luck, the Aquatic Centre is frequently restocked with Murray Cod and Golden Perch. The adjacent J&M Smith Flora and Fauna Reserve created in 1996 is an ideal spot for those interested in exploring the local animal and plant life, with an abundance of native birds including red-rumped parrot, brown treecreeper, striated pardalote, spiny-cheeked honeyeater, striped honeyeater, the regionally uncommon, greycrowned babbler and when the lake is flooded waterbirds flock to the area.
Yarrawonga Visit the impressive Aquazone, a sprawling inflatable park that rests atop the natural expansive beauty of Lake Mulwala. The aquatic play area covers 10,000 metres and caters for kids five years to adults who love a fun challenge. Complete with trampolines, slides, and even a rock-climbing wall, the Aquazone at Lake Mulwala is an impressive and unique attraction. Yarrawonga’s picturesque setting along the Murray River includes a splash park that has entertainment for the whole family. Ride the waterslide, play under motion activated water features, or relax under the rotunda. There’s also a barbecue, public toilets, and shaded seating areas. It’s located on Lake Mulwala in Bank St. The splash park features spray fountains, a slide and a kiosk serving snacks and drinks. Bring your chairs or stretch out under a shady tree while the kids wear themselves out.

We are pretty lucky in River Country, with five glorious rivers flowing through our region. The long stretch of the Murray through River Country offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the river this summer. The many Fishing Classic events held across the region attract thousands of people each year to enjoy the superb fishing on offer in this region. TWIN TOWNS The twin towns of Barham-Koondrook ARE worth exploring this summer. century-old bridge which connects the two towns, as well as being joined to paths along the river. From there, visitors can head west toward the bowling greens, or east to the caravan park and boat ramps for a dip in the Murray.
Surrounded by state forests and national parks, the towns remain relatively cool and the natural world is easily accessible right at your fingertips. More murals to love If you’re a fan of art, look no further than the small town of Rochester in Victoria - 180km north of Melbourne, nestled on the banks of the Campaspe River. Rochester is very quickly becoming the centre point for art in the region thanks to its incredible silo art and murals.

As you make your way into town you will not go far before coming across the incredibly realistic and breathtaking painted silos by talented artist Jimmy D’vate.
If you still haven’t had enough, Rochester is home to an annual mural festival. Grab a map and walk around to see past murals, which are scattered all around town, or attend the festival itself to see the artists in action.
The silo art project was initiated by Rochester Business Network and funded by the community. It is part of the Silo Art Trail, and a must-see for anyone travelling to the area. Recently added to Rochester is D’vate’s third mural, this time in the form of a duck-billed platypus. It continues the Australiana theme, with the squirrel glider and azure kingfisher already drawing people to the Graincorp Silos located in the centre of town. All three animals featured on the silos are endangered or threatened animals, chosen specifically by D’vate in the hope of raising awareness of conservation issues in the region. The silos have put Rochester on the map, making it a destination for tourists rather than a pit-stop according to Rochester Business Network media manager Kate Taylor. “Before when you would say ‘I’m from Rochester’ the response you would get is ‘where’s that?’. Now we are a destination point for our art,” she said.
The 2022 Rochester Mural Festival will be held from March 20 to 27, and the theme is ‘paint us a song’. The opening night of the festival includes a welcome dinner, where you can meet the artists and see the unveiling of the mural concepts – a miniature version of what the artists will be painting in the week upcoming. Tickets are available to purchase for the dinner, but the festival itself is a free show for the public. Treasurer Val Gledhill said the aim is to cover the town in murals. “We are getting so much more art in Rochester, and it is starting to become the main reason people come here,” she said. “It is great, as it encourages people to come and spend time in our town and boost the local economy. “The artists love to chat with everyone who comes along.
Rochester’s appeal as an art lover’s destination does not stop there. Heading further into town - at 13 Gillies St - you will come across an iconic laneway called Iddles Lane.
“It is particularly interesting to see what techniques they use to turn their mini murals into large 4x2 metre masterpieces.”

Floodlights Floodlights make honest, catchy rock music that melds ‘80s alternative rock with ‘90s New Zealand jangle-pop. They self released their debut EP ‘Backyard’ in 2019 on 10” vinyl, containing the single ‘Nullarbor’ which gained them an abundance of attention globally. With a reissue of the EP from Spunk Records in late 2019, the band gained more attention and ‘From a View’ followed a year later. The LP depicts Floodlights’ progression as a band, presenting more intricate instrumentation with their well loved vocal projection.

VISIT HISTORIC JINDERA The only thing the folks at Jindera Pioneer Museum don’t know about Jindera, a small heritage town north of Albury, is what you will love most about the town. For the green-thumbed adventurer, it could be the spectacular views of Morgan’s Lookout and the Jindera Heritage Walk. For the inquisitive history buff, it could be the storied Jindera Pioneer Museum — home of the oldest homestead in the Albury district — or the informative Wirraminna Environmental Centre. And for the leisure lover? Perhaps a swing at the Jindera golf course, a taste of Jindera Bakery’s famous pies, or a pint at the cosy Jindera Hotel. So why not visit for a day trip and discover what Jindera could mean to you? The logical starting point for any trip is, of course, the Jindera Pioneer Museum. Featuring three of Jindera’s oldest surviving dwellings, heritage farming equipment and a beautifully maintained garden — which we’re told is a prime location for a picnic — the two-acre museum is a snapshot of Australian life in the 1800s. All the exhibits have been sourced locally, painstakingly restored and then displayed so as to “transport the visitor back in time”. “We have a slab hut, which would often host the workers who looked after squatters stock,” explained Jindera Pioneer Museum & Historical Society president Margie Wehner. The slab hut is a rudimentary structure that would have been built in less than a week. It would have likely housed the workers of local squatters, who utilised the surrounding land for livestock. “There were four major squatters who took up unowned land prior to the town being gazetted,” Margie said. “They had an arrangement between themselves on how the land was divided and needed workers who were able to keep an eye on their stock.” Older still is the Wattle and Daub cottage, the region’s oldest surviving residence. It is estimated to have been built about 1860, almost 15 years prior to the Blacksmith (1872) which is also maintained by the museum and open to public viewing.
“It served as a better dwelling for workers and was more substantial than the slab hut,” Margie said. The centrepiece of the museum however is the iconic Wagner’s Store and residence, painstakingly restored and furnished to immortalise its 19th century heritage, the store features its original fittings and furnishings. The storefront is even stocked with period accurate foodstuffs and produce. “When you walk into the museum it’s really as if you’ve stepped back in time. You can see where people moved, how they lived; you feel as if you’re right there with them.” The museum is ever-expanding, now also hosting the Tim Fischer Working Machine Shed, which features machinery and tools post-1900s. Once you’ve finished your tour of the museum — and your tea room treats if you’re lucky to be there on a Sunday — there is plenty more in Jindera to keep you occupied. “I often suggest that people head to Wirraminna after they visit us,” Margie said. “It’s only 10km north of Jindera, and after that it’s another 10km to Morgan’s Lookout.” The Wirraminna Environmental Education Centre is a four-hectare park, providing visitors with extensive information on native animals and plant life — including its significance to, and use, by First Nations people. “It’s a really beautiful space to explore our region’s native ecology,” Margie said. Morgan’s Lookout — named after the infamous local bushranger Dan Morgan — offers 360-degree views of the surrounding region and is known for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The spot is said to be the preferred hiding spot of Morgan, who frequented the location whilst on the run. The area has been refurbished with modern amenities including stairs, guard rails, signage, and restroom. Its historical significance, coupled with magnificent sunsets, makes it the perfect conclusion to your ‘Journey to Jindera’.

New bird on the trail If you are looking for a great day trip, a drive to Ulupna Island to see the latest addition to the Murray River Bird Trail is a must. The joint project by ‘Tank’ from Tank Art and Steve Tobin from Heavy Metal Art, the new sculpture depicts a pair of blue wrens. They join a trio giant cockatoos named ‘Ned’, ‘Rosie’, and ‘Mathilde’, and the stunning Kookaburra ‘Kenny’. Located at the entrance of Ulupna Island Station, the 4m tall birds can be seen from the Newell Highway and offer a great opportunity to stop and a snap a couple of awesome pictures. Ulupna Island – located 7km from Tocumwal – is known for its wide range of flora and fauna, so choosing birds for the sculptures “just made sense” for the artists’. “Birds fit into the area and island very well, and we needed something that would be big. So naturally we thought birds would be perfect.” “If we can add to the beauty of the region with some art, without making a mess of things, with something that complements the area, then it’s always going to be beneficial.” Tank wants the birds to be a continuation of the Silo Art Trail, and encourages other towns and artists to get involved.
“It is a bit of a refurbishment of the art along the Murray and brings something different from the region aside from silo art,” he said. The birds are made out of mostly repurposed and recycled materials - all the “‘stuff” that can’t be used anymore. “The eyes are made out of old gas bottle caps and for the sunflowers we used the bristles from old outdoor floor sweepers. We try to repurpose as much as we can,” Steve said. Both artists have enjoyed creating these sculptures and have loved seeing the reactions from the community and tourists. “The best part is seeing people enjoy the birds; seeing families come and take photos with them and having fun,” Steve said. “Hopefully the birds can make people think about how they can improve their local area through supporting the arts, especially after the tough couple of years we’ve had.” The duo have many more heavy metal sculptures in the pipeline, with their largest sculpture - a 6m tall wedge-tailed eagle - on the horizon. Long Paddock Touring Route The Long Paddock is a unique touring route, which follows the 610 kilometres of the Cobb Highway (named after the famous coach company) from Echuca/Moama on the Victorian border, through the towns of Deniliquin, Hay and Wilcannia, leading to the outback towns of Bourke, Broken Hill and White Cliffs. Interpretive panels are located at significant sites along the Cobb Highway.
