Get ready to set sail with EMTC’s production of Disney’s Moana Jr, October 23 to 25. Featuring a cast of talented young performers, Disney’s Moana Jr is packed with spectacular songs, colourful costumes and high-energy dance numbers. We will all be trying to outrun a paddlesteamer for the annual Sweat vs Steam. Race the 10km or 5km fun run, or for juniors, the 2km or dash against the iconic PS Pevensey on October 6. Spring 2026 marks the 150th birthday of two of the region’s most beloved things: the Echuca Moama Agricultural Show and the township of Kyabram. The Echuca Moama Agricultural Show 150th anniversary extravaganza will come alive on November 7 and 8 with something for everyone to enjoy, including Billabong’s petting zoo, spectacular horse events, show cattle, goat judging, shearing demonstrations, wool displays. Alongside this year’s show, the Echuca Historical Society is hosting an exhibition documenting the show’s history, special moments and memories at their museum from October 28. And the biggest birthday of the year is the 150th of Kyabram, with the town coming alive with community activities for everyone. To celebrate this milestone, events in Kyabram include a bush dance, Wattle Day celebrations, bush poetry, town dinner, colour run, open days, town criers, a big birthday bash and so much more! Are you the next Slam-bassador? Australian Poetry Slam is heading to Campaspe Library across two nights in September 2026, with a workshop and competitive heat event both on the program. Poetry slam facilitator and spoken-word poet John Englezos will host a workshop at Campaspe Library in Echuca on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. The workshop is open to all ages and is designed to help participants prepare for the stage. Tuesday, September 15 is the slam heat, with doors opening at 6pm and the slam starting at 6.30pm at the Echuca library. By throwing your ideas into the slam-storm, you could be chosen as the 2026 Australian Poetry Slam-bassador and offered an international writers’ festival tour worth about $20,000. Up to 10 or 12 poetry slam competitors can sign up, with names drawn from a hat, and each competitor has two minutes at the microphone. The first place and runner-up from each heat progress to the state final, with two representatives from each state advancing to the national grand final at the Sydney Opera House.

Echuca-Moama | October 16-18

Festival of Stories Yorta Yorta singer-songwriter Benny Walker is set to appear at the Festival of Stories, which will run from October 16 to 18, 2026, at the Port of Echuca on the banks of the Murray River. The three-day festival brings together Australian authors, artists, musicians, filmmakers, First Nations Elders, farmers, food producers and chefs for concerts, comedy, workshops, conversations, cultural experiences and shared meals, with more than 25 events across the weekend on both sides of the Murray. Walker is currently finishing his forthcoming album, Heartlines, recorded in Elwood with producer Simon Burke from The Meltdown. “We are almost finished the record completely,” he said. “Probably another song-and-a-half to track, and then on top of that, add some backing vocals and percussion and little overdubs here and there and we should have it wrapped up within the next month or so.” He hopes to release the first single in September, with the album due in early 2027. The album draws heavily from a heart attack Walker suffered in 2022, aged 37. “I wanted to take something that was ugly and make something beautiful,” he said. “It has made its way into several songs, the subject matter itself, whether it is hinted at or it is really tackled head-on and is the main theme for a song. “Because what it did is obviously give me a fair bit of perspective on what is really important to me.” At the Festival of Stories, Walker will discuss the making of Heartlines and perform acoustic songs. He will also appear on a panel alongside fellow musician Dan Sultan. “I will speak about my life experience, between the last record and this, because every album is essentially a snapshot in time,” Walker said. “I will be delving into where the inspiration comes from, all the songs on that record and potentially playing little bits and acoustically in between

chatting as well.” A documentary about the album’s creation, made with local filmmaker Kate Newlyn, is also in the works. EMBA hosts basketball bonanza Echuca-Moama Basketball Association is hosting two major junior tournaments this September. From Saturday, September 19, to Tuesday, September 22, Echuca Basketball Stadium will welcome 120 under-12 boys and girls for Basketball Victoria’s Country Jamboree. Athletes were selected from the under-12 country skills days held on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, and will face off against each other in a four-day camp designed to prepare them for the next phase of their basketball journeys. EMBA will once again bring together the most promising young players across country Victoria to train, compete and further develop their games in a high-quality environment. A week later, the association will play host to more fierce competition, with more than 120 teams and more than 1000 players competing in the annual Echuca-Moama Basketball Tournament. This year’s tournament will begin on Saturday, September 26, and conclude on Monday, September 28, featuring numerous grades from 12

EMBA has invited associations from Victoria and NSW to compete in three days of high-quality action played with electric atmospheres in Echuca, Rochester and Kyabram. Such is the playing interest for the 2026 tournament that registrations were closed early. Off the court, the basketball tournament and country jamboree both bring about a positive impact on the local economy. “With the jamboree, it brings a lot of new families into the town, Echuca-Moama can be showcased, and because we go back-to-back between the jamboree and our tournament, we have a lot of families that stay that whole week in Echuca,” EMBA president Lisa Baker said. “So it’s actually really good for them to play basketball, have a couple of days and then have another tournament, and our tournament is our biggest fundraiser for the year as well.”

Cheers to 10 years: The ultimate weekend trail is back The Pop & Pour Festival will mark its 10th anniversary on Saturday, November 28, 2026, with live music, local produce and roving entertainment spread across venues in Echuca and Moama. Pop & Pour Festival director Jacqui Wegener said the milestone event would honour what festivalgoers love while delivering fresh surprises. “Looking back and reflecting on the 10 years since our very first festival, we are incredibly proud of what Pop and Pour has grown into and the opportunity it gives us to highlight the amazing producers, musicians, venues and businesses of Echuca Moama,” Ms Wegener said. “It has become an annual weekend away for so many people who return to our region to celebrate everything we have to offer.” A new addition to the festival trail is Two Lads Brewing in Moama, which will host Knot Entertainment and T-Sax + Decks. “Two Lads has brought something fresh and exciting to Moama, and we’re thrilled to welcome them to the Pop and Pour trail,” Ms Wegener said. The music line-up along the trail also includes AC2ZZ, Shannon and The Flipside, Stumbling North, and Lokki Acoustic. VIP ticket holders will begin the day at a circusinspired brunch at Three Black Sheep, featuring 14

Murray River | November 16–20

Paddlers to power down Murray Another Massive Murray Paddle will be flowing down the Murray River this November, with Echuca-Moama a key waypoint on the journey. The massive long-distance paddling event sees hundreds of people, manning kayaks, canoes and other paddle crafts, take on a 415km voyage down the Murray River from Yarrawonga to Koondrook over five days. This year’s event will be held from Monday, November 16, to Friday, November 20. The day three pit stop for the race is at Moama Beach, with paddlers arriving from Picnic Point throughout the day. Paddlers will then kick off day four back at the beach on Thursday morning, on their way to Torrumbarry. The marathon undertaking can be completed solo or in teams, with paddlers encouraged to raise funds for the cause of their choice. “The event can touch all these groups and help them achieve their goals, and then they help us achieve our goals with the race,” organiser Shannon O’Brien said at the 2025 event. “The Murray (Paddle)’s always been like that. “That’s been the fundamentals of it for the 56 years, it’s always about helping groups. “It’s still about winning a race or being fast on the Murray, but the background of it is that you need to 16

Discover over 300 native plant species A celebration of Australian native flora will take place at the Echuca Masonic Lodge when the Australian Plants Society, Echuca hosts its annual Native Flower Showcase. The showcase is on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9am to 3pm, featuring over 300 different species of native plants suitable for the EchucaMoama region. “The native plant showcase is the ideal place for people who are new to the area, or building a new home, to come to find out what natives grow best in the area, and what would suit the local environment,” Australian Plants Society Echuca president Sue Robertson said. “The importance of native flowers in our gardens is to attract native bees, wild birds and wildlife. “If it is an endangered species of plant, it can be carried on from being in people’s gardens, where it can be preserved.” Because the showcase is sourced from local gardens and nurseries, Mrs Robertson is unsure until the day, exactly what plants and flowers 18

will be on display. “It’s been an unusual season,” she said. “Things are flowering now that shouldn’t be flowering, so it could be a totally different type of flower show. “Last year, we didn’t have a lot of callistemons, and this year we might have an absolute truckload of them, so you just don’t know. “Hopefully over 300 species, 300 different specimens of native plants on display.” The showcase will feature displays from Goldfields Revegetation nursery and include a basket weaver from Rochester, along with a diorama of Eremophila and wild native flower paintings. Moana Jr answers the call of the ocean Get ready to set sail on a heartwarming adventure when Echuca-Moama Theatre Company brings Disney’s Moana Jr to life in October. Featuring a cast of 43 talented young performers aged eight to 18 from across Echuca-Moama, Kyabram, Goornong, Rushworth, Numurkah and Deniliquin, the much-loved Disney musical promises an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages. Johnny Jukebox rocks every generation Singer John Standley, known as Johnny Jukebox, will perform an all-ages show at the Echuca Workers on Saturday, October 10, 2026, with tickets now on sale. And this show is for everyone, all ages, from your teenage daughter, through the generations to grandma. Johnny, who is only 17, earned his stage name from judge Kyle Sandilands during his run on Australian Idol, where he reached the top six. The performer said his path to Idol was unexpected. “My Australian Idol journey began while I was temporarily based in Adelaide due to my parents’ work,” Johnny said. “I auditioned simply looking for opportunities and didn’t expect the outcome but was selected and progressed through the competition to the top six.” Johnny said his live show spans decades of music. “I sing songs from the 50s right through to this 24

Rev up for Moama Motorama Moama Motorama is returning for a second year, with the three-day motoring festival scheduled for October 23 to 25, 2026, in Moama. The inaugural event drew 153 vehicles and is organised by Autofest event organiser Jacinta Walley. “Moama Motorama is a three-day motoring festival, purely based around our entrants having a good weekend away,” she said. Set in the Murray River region, the festival welcomes all makes and models, including classic cars, hot rods, street machines, motorbikes, 4x4s and daily drivers. Activities include a mystery cruise, meet-and-greet, street displays in the heart of Echuca, and a show ‘n’ shine on the Sunday at Jack Eddy Oval in Moama. “At the show ‘n’ shine there will be food trucks, cars, kids’ activities, trade stalls and live music,” Ms Walley said. “For the kids, we will have ‘It’s Party Time’ jumping castles, airbrush tattoos and are hoping for a few more kids’ activities, which we are still organising.”

About 50 awards will be presented across categories including top hot rod, top sedan, top ute, best muscle car, best untouched original and grand champion male and female. Spectator entry to the Sunday show ‘n’ shine is by gold coin donation, with all funds going to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, organised by the Bad Temper Motorsports team. “The Bad Temper Motorsports team have four burnout cars and come to our other events as well to raise money for the Starlight Foundation,” Ms Walley said. “They raffle off passenger rides, so that people can go for a ride in their burnout cars at SpringNats or Bathurst.” A weekend event pass is $50 for entrants and covers all activities across the three days, while a Sunday-only entrant pass is available for $10. ■ Entries are open at autofest.com.au

Sweat battles steam in unique run One of the more unique running events around the country continues in 2026 with the return of Sweat vs Steam.

The fun run not only showcases the historic Port of Echuca and surrounds, but sees competitors in the 5km, 10km or kids fun run battling to beat one of the town’s iconic paddlesteamers to the line. The river vessel completes its own course, looking to provide a winnable but competitive challenge for runners. “It’s probably the only fun run in the world where you get to race against a paddle steamer, which is very unique,” event director Brady Threlfall said. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, 30

November 15, with the PS Pevensey again on hand to push competitors to their limits. The vessel also provides a unique vantage point for family, friends and spectators to take in all the action. Also supporting the community, the proceeds from the event are set to be directed to Echuca Regional Health for a second year. “Echuca Regional Health are great because they allow us to access a lot of volunteers,” Threlfall said. “We get doctors, we get nurses, we get admin

staff, and they’re the people that stand on the corners, pointing what direction (to go) or handing out medals at the end or filling water cups on the course. “It makes it very easy to get volunteers and they’ve been supportive of us, and then we can put the funds back to them.” Last year the event raised $14,335, with the ambitious target for this year set at $20,000, with hopes for 1000 entrants on course. “We want to get a bit more on-course entertainment, get as many speakers as we can out there, potentially some dance groups and bands, just to really make it a fun run,” Threlfall said. “Hopefully, every corner of the race there’s someone blaring music or there’s some live entertainment or anything like that, so we’re trying to get that organised at the moment.” ■ Find more information and enter at www.sweatvssteam.com.au

Celebrate the cup in Echuca Echuca Racing Club is the perfect country destination on the day of the race that stops the nation. Melbourne Cup Day is an annual tradition, not just at Flemington but in Echuca-Moama, with one of the club’s major meetings of the year on the first Tuesday in November. About 3000 people pack the local track for a day of live racing, entertainment and all the pageantry of the cup without the trip to Melbourne. All the action of a country race day is there, including a packed card of on-track action and a full slate of off-track activities, including fashions on the field and plenty of food and entertainment. The day is also the best way in regional Victoria to experience one of the great races: on the big screen surrounded by fellow punters. A wide variety of ticket packages are available, including marquee and umbrella options located in prime viewing positions. Getting out to the track and back is also a

Top shooters take aim Echuca Clay Target Club is one of the leading destinations for high profile shooting events. The Victorian State Trap Carnival, which will be held at the Echuca Clay Target Club from November 12 to 15, regularly attracts Olympic level competitors, and this year will be no different. Let’s celebrate 150 years of the Show The Echuca Historical Society will mark 150 years of the Echuca Moama Agricultural Show with a major exhibition opening on Wednesday, October 28. The exhibition will run until Sunday, January 31, 2027, at the society’s premises at 1 Dickson St, Echuca. The exhibition will bring together objects, photographs, documents and personal stories that trace the evolution of the show from its beginnings to the present day. Items carefully preserved for decades will be on display, alongside community contributions and memorabilia donated by local families. This 150-year anniversary reminds us that history is not just something we preserve but something we live with every day. Echuca Historical Society hopes this exhibition inspires a deeper appreciation for the stories of the Echuca Show. Come along to the Echuca Coin, Antique and Collectables Fair for a valuation or to find that one elusive item. Champion of champions head to cluBarham The world’s best lawn bowlers will descend on cluBarham for the 2026 World Bowls Champion of Champions, from Monday, October 5 to Saturday, October 10. The prestigious international event will see champion bowlers from around the globe compete across six days, while bringing a festival atmosphere to Barham with community events, live entertainment and international sporting action. Spectator entry is free, giving the community and visitors the chance to witness some of the sport’s biggest names competing on cluBarham’s internationally recognised bowling greens. The tournament opens on October 5 with player accreditation and practice, followed by a players’ parade from the Murray River Bridge to cluBarham at 3pm. An opening ceremony featuring a traditional smoking ceremony and welcome speeches will follow. That evening, the public can enjoy a community pro-am from 5pm, playing alongside elite bowlers before a traditional Aussie barbecue meet and greet, with Australia taking on the rest of the world 44

Rich River Golf Club is the home of top-class tribute acts and live music, with performances for everyone this spring. Mel Van Dyke is the lead performer, band manager and producer of So P!nk, a tribute show dedicated to the music of P!nk. “P!nk is like our adopted entertainer of Australia,” Mel said. “She has had so many sold-out shows, we love her and she loves us.” Mel said her show went beyond a standard cover band performance. “We do our best to go above and beyond just being live music; it’s a full-on show,” she said. “It is going to be a big night of fun and all the wonderful songs that you will know.” Mel is well-known for her physical stunts, including performing upside down from a pole and performing with silks. “People have to make sure they wait until the end and then they get me on my roller skates,” she said. “For the show at Rich River, you can expect a lot of fun and all the classics and maybe even some for those die-hard fans,” Mel said. “I recommend that even if people think that they don’t know many P!nk songs, they will find it’s a show for everyone.” 46

Emmy winner and three-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Toni Childs is bringing her twohour music retrospective to the Echuca Paramount. Known for international hits including Don’t Walk Away, Stop Your Fussin’, Walk and Talk Like Angels, Zimbabwe and Because You’re Beautiful, Toni has fans in more than 170 countries and has opened for Bob Dylan and performed duets with Al Green and Peter Gabriel. The show spans her celebrated career, drawing on material from Union, House of Hope, The Woman’s Boat and Keep the Faith, before introducing new music from two upcoming albums, It’s All a Beautiful Noise and Citizens of the Planet, both expected next year. Describing the first half of the retrospective, Toni said it felt like “a chocolate box of memories“. “I’m playing the fan favourites in the first half,” she said. “It feels like a conversation, and I let everybody know that I’m going to make love to them while they are keeping their clothes on. “This is a long show, but they better stick around, because it’s got a vibrational frequency.”

Perricoota olive oil: a health boost in every drop Perricoota Olives farmer Jim Bourke has been tending his Womboota olive grove since 2005, when he and his wife Jenny purchased the property with trees as young as two years old. “We do everything ourselves here,” Mr Bourke said. “Everything that the olive trees need to be looked after; pruning, mowing, picking and watering.” The farm runs about 1500 trees across 21 acres, growing varieties including Frantoio, Corregiolla, Manzanillo, Barnea and Kalamata. The Frantoio variety is the primary source of their extra virgin olive oil, sold at farmers’ markets and online. The farm is certified organic, with recent testing finding their oil contained 332 parts per million polyphenols, well above the 200 to 250 parts per million required for extra virgin olive oil classification. “We have some people buy it for that reason; it’s for your own health; that is what polyphenols are about,” Mr Bourke said. “We sell at the Echuca Farmers Market, as well as the Moama Market. “It is a good social morning at the farmers’ market twice a month.” 50

Golden day in Gunbower It may hold only one meet a year, but Gunbower Racing Club makes the most of it. The club’s day of days, the Gunbower Gold Cup, is on the way this October, scheduled for Saturday, October 3. Already known to locals and attendees as on one of the best days in country racing, that tag became official as last year’s meet earned a nomination for Country Racing Victoria Community Club Event of the Year. Seven confirmed races, headlined by the eponymous Gold Cup, will be held on the day at the Gunbower Race Course, combined with a smorgasbord of food, drink and entertainment. Fashions on the field will be present as always as racegoers look to show off their best trackside fits. “Enjoy a relaxed community atmosphere with the excitement of a city race day, set against the stunning backdrop of the majestic Gunbower Creek,” the club said. Iconic festival returns with thrilling line-up The iconic Deni Ute Muster is gearing up for another unforgettable year. Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on Deniliquin this October for the 2026 Deni Ute Muster, following a record-breaking, sold-out event in 2025. The festival will be held on Friday, October 2, and Saturday, October 3, with camping opening from Thursday, October 1. What started in 1999 as a grassroots community initiative to attract visitors during a quiet long weekend has grown into one of Australia’s most iconic regional events. The Muster draws visitors from across the country and remains deeply connected to its rural roots while continuing to evolve for new generations of festival-goers. This year’s entertainment lineup includes Tones And I, Lee Kernaghan and American artist Tyler Braden, alongside established favourites and emerging acts. The two-day program also features ute competitions, around-the-ground activations, camping and family-friendly experiences. A major addition to the 2026 event is a ticketed Thursday night concert inside the new seated venue, The Grand Pavilion. The Ultimate Superstars of Country tribute show will celebrate the music of Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen, with gates opening at 7pm and the full production show

beginning at 8pm. The Thursday concert will also support the Deniliquin High School P&C, one of the Muster’s official 2026 charities, following a devastating school fire in November 2024. A portion of every ticket sold will be donated directly to the P&C, and complimentary bus transport from town will be provided for non-camping patrons. Rev up for Rochester’s Show N’ Shine The Rochester Motoring Club Inc. is gearing up for its annual Show N’ Shine event at the Rochester Racecourse Recreation Reserve on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 8am to 2pm. Entry fees are $10 for Show N’ Shine participants, $2 for spectators, and free for children under 15. Rochester Motoring Club Inc. vice-president Alan Matterson-Harrison said the event had grown significantly since its early days. “At the 2025 Rochester Show N’ Shine, I think we got about 250 cars or somewhere in that region,” he said. “The club seems to have new members flocking to each meeting, with currently 218 registered vehicles on the books and about 30 motorbikes.”

A celebration of country life and community spirit The Barham-Koondrook Show is set to return on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2026, celebrating country life, community spirit and family entertainment at Barham Showgrounds, on Gonn Street, Barham. A long-standing district tradition, the show showcases the region’s agricultural heritage while bringing the community together to celebrate local talent and friendly competition. Visitors can look forward to show jumping, free camel rides, an animal nursery, a climbing wall, laser tag, archery, face painting, airbrush tattooing and a bucking bull. The pavilion will feature exhibits of art and craft, horticulture and photography from local exhibitors. Friday evening will include family-friendly activities such as sheep shearing, sheep cut-outs and the ‘farmers challenge.’ Local buskers will provide live music, the BBQ will be open, the Anglican Church Ladies will run a food stall, and the combined BarhamKoondrook Emergency Services will put on a display. Saturday’s program features judging from ‘tiny tots’ through to pre-teens, along with the Barham Pony Club Games Day, showcasing local riders’ skill and horsemanship. The festivities will feature food trucks, kids’ activities and a relaxed, family-friendly evening at the oval. A weekend of stories and history The Kyabram Town Hall Writers Group is marking the town’s 150th anniversary with a three-day program beginning Friday, November 6. On Friday evening, a subgroup will present ‘Voices of the Past’, drawing on historical editions of the Kyabram Free Press. Kyabram Town Hall Writers Group facilitator Maria Radanov said the weekend was central to a broader project marking the milestone. “They are going through the Ky Free Press, the old copies, to see what the story of Kyabram was through the articles, letters to the editor, and so forth,” Ms Radanov said. “That will be a bit of a performance, not a play, but a spoken performance on the Friday night at the Kyabram Town Hall.” On Saturday, November 7, the group will help with the AHGATC National Town Crying Championships at Edis Park. Sunday, November 8 features ‘Stories from Kyabram’, with selected community submissions performed as readings. “We have asked the community to send in stories, 82

1000-word stories, or poems or little skits about things they know about Kyabram or remember about Kyabram, or were told about Kyabram by their ancestors, so it’s got to be true,” Ms Radanov said. “It can be funny, sad, informative, as long as it is about Kyabram or Kyabram people. “We will choose a number of submissions, and we will have them performed as readings as well, that will either be by the author or we can designate a town crier or someone else to do that.” The writers group, which has 16 members, meets weekly at Kyabram Town Hall every Monday at 4.30pm and has been running since 2019. Kyabram Australian National Town Crying Championship Kyabram The Australian National Town Crying Championship is set to come to Kyabram on November 7, 2026, timed to coincide with the town’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Campaspe Shire Council and Murray River Council town crier and Ancient and Honourable Guild of Australian Town Criers president Judy Campbell will host the event. Ms Campbell has held the role since 1993, becoming the first officially appointed town crier for the region. “You need to have volume, sustained performance and accuracy, because if you give out the wrong information and somebody was outside curfew hours and you told them the wrong time, well, that is how ‘don’t shoot the messenger’ came into being,” she said. Criers will be judged on volume, sustained performance, accuracy, presentation, content, delivery, costume and scroll across two competition cries.

Kybram Bush Poets: Banjo’s untold tale revealed Kyabram Bush Poets is presenting bush poet Gregory North in his show ‘Banjo 125’ at the Kyvalley Hall on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The show marks 125 years since Banjo Paterson’s lecture tour through four states and New Zealand, where he spoke about his experiences as a war correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Argus. “I’m not doing lectures on the Boer War,” Gregory said. “I do an entertainment show about Banjo’s life and rhymes. “For my show in Kyabram, people can expect lots of information about Banjo and his life, and their favourite poems recited and maybe some they haven’t heard of as well. Campaspe’s October There are family-friendly events across the Campaspe region this October.

Campaspe Carp Catch The annual Campaspe Carp Catch, organised by the Strathallan Rochester Family Landcare group, will return to Rochester River Reserve on October 18. The Rochester and District Angling Club will assist with measuring and counting the caught carp, while the Victorian Fishing Authority will provide educational materials and resources on the day. In 2025, the event drew 234 registered participants, who removed 64 large carp from the waterway, with half being egg-laden females. 84

Strathallan Rochester Family Landcare member Veronica Groat said the event had been a strong success “The biggest group of people that came along were under 18,” she said. “They are the people who are going to be making the decisions about nature, the future and the environment.” The results appear to be having an impact on the waterway, with recent Campaspe River Fish Survey results showing declining carp populations and increasing native fish numbers.

RandK Rock ‘n’ Roll Festival A rock ‘n’ roll competition is coming to Rochester Shire Hall, 45 Mackay St, Rochester, on Saturday, October 24, with competition starting at 11am. A social dance open to everyone will follow in the evening, with doors opening at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Organiser Kyrewyn Alley said the idea emerged from her wedding. “My husband Rodney and I got married in October 2025 at the Rochester Hall, and we had a band over from South Australia called Working Overtime, and they were wonderful,” she said. “After the wedding, the band rang back and said we had such an amazing time in country Victoria, we want to come back.” World champion rock ‘n’ roller Johnny Phung from Albury and coach Dave Tarrant will judge the event. Competition categories include newcomers, beginners, intermediate, advanced, lifts, masters 45+, and the RandK championship dance. The Stanhope Food and Wine Festival returns on Sunday, October 4 running from 11am to 4pm along the main street of Stanhope, which will be closed to traffic for the street party. Festival committee member Christine Dicketts said planning was well under way. “We are looking forward to this year’s Stanhope Food and Wine Festival; it is all planned,’ she said. The music this year will be from The Wildlings and Tim Richards. Food vendors will offer gelato, donuts, Japanese, Indian and Korean cuisine, twisted potatoes, Australian barbecue, pizza and roast meats from the Stanhope Cafe. “We also have produce including salami, olive oil, Timmering Food and Beverage Co, Graze Away from Kyabram with charcuterie boards, and a lot of wineries,” Christine said. Tickets are on sale for Stone Cold, an outdoor concert fundraiser at Mathoura Bowling Club on Saturday, November 28, featuring three live acts and six hours of continuous music. Mathoura Bowling Club manager Adam Parker said the event was inspired by a personal loss. “My brother-in-law, who was only 49, passed away from a glioblastoma tumour in January this year and left behind my sister and their two children,” he said. “One of the reasons we chose to do this event was because I don’t think there is enough awareness, and probably enough money going towards brain cancer and tumours.” The event will raise funds for Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer, with $5 from every ticket donated to the cause, alongside collection tins at the gate. Walk the sound walk, strumming and banging to make a tune as you stroll along, with community music events, Moosic Muster in January and Jigarre Jammin’ from February to November. Gargarro Botanic Gardens is a unique worldclass botanical garden that reflects the region’s dry landscape, celebrating native flora, precious water resources and local Indigenous history. The Girgarre produce and craft market, which focuses on quality local produce and crafts, is held on the second Sunday of every month.

Travel to Colbinabbin to see one of the most wonderful pieces of silo art imaginable with five privately owned silos painted by artist Tim Bowtell. The silos depict significant events in the history of Colbinabbin including paintings of the early farmers’ picnics, transporting grain to and from the Colbinabbin silos, the role of the CFA and channel building to the town, and the massive tractor pull from the 1980s.
