Come and enjoy the expo The entertainment is ready, the animals are groomed and the gates at Seymour’s Kings Park are ready to open for the 29th edition of the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo. Held in the heart of Victoria, the expo is a stalwart of the farming calendar, and more than 300 exhibitors are raring to go. Traditionally held during the third week of February, this year’s event will take place from April 16 to 18. “With no events happening over the past 15 months, we are excited about the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo opening the gates on our allnew dates in April,” event manager Jamie Gilbert said. “The weather will be perfect for a great day out in Seymour and I encourage all regional farmers and families to come and support this year’s event. “Come and explore the latest technology, practices and trends in small and backyard farming, visit the animals and enjoy the market style shopping, food and entertainment.” Organisers have been working closely with the Victorian Government to ensure all boxes are ticked for the COVID-safe event, with everything ready to ensure the event goes off without a hitch. The expo puts the spotlight on modern farming methods, ag-tech solutions, and sustainability. “The latest technological advancements, machinery and
equipment for small acreage farming!—!you’ll find it all at the expo,” Jamie said. “Over the years the event has grown to incorporate sustainability, including off-the-grid, renewable resources and low-impact living. “There is also an opportunity to get up close and personal with unique livestock breeds, learn tips on raising unusual paddock pals and get upto-date on animal health and farm diversity ideas in the Small Farms Learning Hub.” And, with the event falling in the last weekend of the April school holidays, there’s plenty to ensure a great family fun day out, with star-studded entertainment for all ages. “We have a huge variety of exhibitors and I’m excited for people to experience the range that will be there on the day,” Jamie said. “The All4FMX quad bike demos are back, while children and adults get the chance to try their hand at whip-cracking or see the Flipping Disc Dogz complete some impressive tricks. “There’s the ever-popular Kids’ Corner and the Country Kitchen and Butcher Shop where chef Adrian Hensley and butcher Vic Bonacci will cook up a storm.”

It is fantastic to once again be back to events and hosting the annual Seymour Alternative Farming Expo in Seymour. The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo will celebrate 29 years in 2021 with more than 300 stallholders and exhibitors expected to appear at the show!—!what an achievement. A large number of visitors are expected across the three days, with the expo anticipated to bring with it a much-needed boost to our local economy. This fosters the continued growth and development of our agricultural sector as well as our broader
community and region. The expo is all about rural innovation. It brings together new ideas and techniques alongside traditional approaches to help the sector adapt through challenging conditions. One of the highlights for me is seeing the different exhibitors and what they have to offer each and every year.

Volunteers are backbone of expo For the Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society, the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is a big deal. Having thousands of people interested in agriculture congregating in Seymour is a boon for the region’s industry, but for the society!—!which has been involved every year since the expo’s inception!—!it’s also a chance to bring volunteers together. Volunteers from across the region come together to help run the livestock section of the show, set up in the cafe to do everything from serving to cooking to cleaning, and conduct presentations on agriculture. Society vice-president Stephen Koch said it was great to see volunteers coming together for what was a strong fundraiser for the society. “For example, the Ken Hall building is the only space at the expo to sit

The society will help coordinate and manage the cattle and livestock side of the expo with exhibits and preparations.
This year’s expo will be the first event to utilise the brand new multi-use agriculture pavilion, which is replacing the Fred Grimwade and Eric Head cattle and sheep pavilions.
The society will also run presentations in the new pavilion about livestock, with five or six lectures a day across the expo all presented by volunteers, including Stephen.
“It’s the first year it’ll get used and it’ll be a learning experience to see how it works,” Stephen said.
“We know it’s the alternative farming expo but these presentations are a bit more mainstream for people who might have moved to regional areas,” he said.

HERO horses start new lives The Harness Racing and Rehoming Opportunities (HERO) Program gives horses a second lease of life after their harness racing career ends. A division of Harness Racing Victoria, the program takes standardbreds off the track and gives them an after-track home. HERO program manager Tanya McDermott said the program worked directly with owners and trainers in the harness racing industry to rehome horses after they finished in the industry. Tanya said the horses they worked with could have had successful or unsuccessful careers, had to retire prematurely or didn’t even make it onto the track. “HERO Program graduate horses have gone on to participate very successfully in a wide and varied range of activities including endurance, showing, extreme cowboy competition (obstacles on horseback), equine assisted learning, adult riding and pony club, trail riding and liberty training,” Tanya said. A variety of standardbred horses going through the HERO Program will be exhibited at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, giving people a chance to see what is
being taught. Many of the horses under the program have to be retrained for things as simple as being ridden as lots are never ridden while they are harness racing. Other ‘ambassador horses’ who have previously been through the program, will also be exhibited to show off their new skills. Visitors will be given a background on each horse’s re-education process and will be there to show off how they can be trained. With different horses exhibited each day, there will be a wide range of new skills on show, including horses who have been trained to do tricks, as well as others now involved in equine therapy. A network of trainers will also be available to have a chat to people about the program and answer any questions people may have. “It’s a good chance to see what we do and what our horses can do,” Tanya said. Crack that whip at Seymour Some of Australia’s best whip-crackers will show off their skills at this year’s Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.
Whip-cracking skills will be on show at the 2021 AWPA Victorian Whipcracking and Bullock Whip Championships.
The 2021 Australian Whipcrackers and Plaiters Association (AWPA) Victorian Whipcracking and Bullock Whip Championships will be held on the Saturday at this year’s event. There will be plenty of action in peewees, juveniles, juniors, men’s, women’s and over-45s sections as competitors pit their skills against each other. Using two whips at a time in the stockwhips sections, the entrants compete firstly in a target competition where they are judged on their accuracy at hitting targets. Next is a tricks section, where competitors perform up to 10 tricks with their whips. AWPA secretary Simon, Martin said these can be from something as simple as a ‘cattleman’s crack’, which is a traditional stockman’s crack which focuses on the loudness of the crack, to the more difficult ‘Tasmanian

Next is a freestyle routine where competitors show off their skills continuously for one minute in the junior, men’s and women’s
competitions, or for 30 seconds in the peewees, juveniles and over-45s competitions. There is also a bullock whip section where all ages compete in the one section, using the much longer bullock whips. As well as the expo playing host to the Victorian championships, there will also be whip-cracking demonstrations on both the Thursday and Friday of the expo. Simon said the expo provided a great chance for people to see a unique sport in action. “It’s part of our (Australian) culture and heritage,” he said. “The stockwhip is a uniquely Australian whip.” And with the whips cracking at the speed of sound, they create a sonic boom, and that alone is sure to draw a crowd. Learn how to whip it Looking for a cracking good time? The Australian Whipcrackers and Plaiters Association is making sure kids and adults get their chance to experience an Australian tradition, holding whip-cracking demonstrations on Friday and Sunday. After a 15-minute demo from 15-yearold Australian Junior Champion whip-cracker Max Kamp and 17-yearold Kiera Buzza, the crowd will be given the opportunity to try their hand at the skill.
With three completely different shows there’s plenty to enjoy throughout the day, with both Max and Kiera showcasing a number of different routines. Once armed with a hat and safety glasses it is over to the kids and adults. Australian Whipcrackers and Plaiters Association’s Heather Buzza said the demonstrations were always a big hit. “The kids absolutely love it and the adults too,” she said.
“Max is absolutely amazing and Kiera is just incredible too. “It’s a great chance to teach them how to crack the whip and keep the tradition alive. “If kids have come along to watch the show in the morning you normally see them coming back for another look. “It’s really interactive. “The kids actually learn to crack quicker than the adults$—$you’ve just

Time to ramp-up digital farming The stunning turnaround in Australia’s agricultural fortunes over the past 12 months likely ranks as a rare highlight from an otherwise challenging year that was 2020. With grain hoppers overflowing, livestock prices remaining high and demand for fresh Australian produce growing, there is every reason to be increasingly confident about the future of Australian agriculture. While a seven per cent increase in the value of agricultural production across Australia is a reason to celebrate, it demonstrates the size of the challenge facing the industry if it is to achieve its $100 billion by 2030 target. Now, with just nine years to go, the sector must grow by as much in the coming nine years as it did in the past generation if this ambition is to be realised. Australian agriculture cannot afford to reverse the gains made in the past year"—"it has to turbo-charge growth, adapt and change if this reasonable ambition is to be realised. Building resilience for the next dry spell, downturn in global terms of trade or other industry challenge is essential to agriculture continuing to grow in value and importance to the Australian economy. And while it has oft been said that the need to begin (or hasten) the transition from manual to digital
agriculture is now, there has arguably never been a better time to ramp-up digital farming across Australia. While digital agriculture cannot put more water in the dam or make it rain, it can help farmers better utilise finite resources, manage pasture, monitor livestock and reduce farm input costs for things like fertiliser and chemicals. How many times a week do you drive to a paddock just to check on things? Surely it would be easier if you could monitor water in troughs, or your farm gates and storage sheds remotely? In September last year, nbn released the findings of our Connecting Australia Future of Farming research, which found that internet-enabled digital agriculture could increase the industry’s value by up to $15.6 billion by 2030. AgriFutures Australia predicts that ‘business as usual’ in agriculture will see the industry fall $15.7 billion short of the $100 billion target by 2030"—"the adoption of digital agriculture is the difference between success and failure. With the capacity to save growers time, make them money and

What’s the buzz about bees The backyard has become trendy, with everyday people taking on small-scale alternative farming projects on their own properties. Some of the most exciting and clever home farming techniques will take centre stage at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, with the renowned Gary Beavis from Beavo’s Honey returning for his muchanticipated how-to lecture. Gary said the lecture was ideal for anyone wanting to learn more about beekeeping or thinking about getting their first hive. “It’s really about those who have an interest in beekeeping!—!there’s a whole intrigue associated with bees,” he said. “For some people there’s a whole element of tending to the environment and others just want some nice honey. “It’s all about giving an insight into bees and what is required to have a backyard beehive.” After starting with a single beehive
in his backyard 15 years ago, Gary was able to turn his hobby into a business and said there was potential for many others to do the same. Many people who have attended the talk over the years have embraced beekeeping, Gary said, with some now with several hives. “They’ve been to the course and it’s just grown from there,” he said. The talk will cover a number of aspects of beekeeping, including what goes on in a hive, how it functions and the lifecycle of the bees. It’s a great way to dip your toe into beekeeping. The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo has a long and rich history in the region. I congratulate everyone involved on celebrating the Expo’s 30th anniversary this year. Pushing the boundaries The ALL4FMX team will be flying through the air performing all sorts of tricks on motorbikes and quad bikes at this year’s Seymour expo. The only team in Australia with a backflipping quad bike rider, owner and rider Mitch Van Vliet is looking forward to putting on a show. “The last show we did was March 2020, so this is the first show back in more than a year,” Mitch said. “We’re really excited and looking forward to getting out there. “We really feed off the energy of the crowd and that really helps push us to try some crazy tricks.” Having been performing since 2016, this year’s show will also feature Mitch’s brother Harry.
“The crowd should get ready for a bit of brother and brother competition,” Mitch laughed. Having grown up racing, the Van Vliet brothers developed a love of jumps and it soon led to the launch of ALL4FMX. The ALL4FMX team will exhibiting freestyle motocross skills in an action-packed show for the whole family to enjoy. You will get to see the only quad bike freestyle rider in Australia to do a backflip. They use an air bag to minimise their risks when landing, allowing them to push the boundaries in the air.

A farmyard filled with fun Farmer Darryl and his herd of furry and feathery friends will be back at this year’s Seymour Alternative Farming Expo. Farmer Darryl’s Mobile Animal Farm is a big hit every year and will once again have the chance to get up close and personal with a farmyard full of animals and birds. Sheep, calves, goats, roosters, hens, lambs, baby rabbits and Princess the piglet are all a part of the interactive display, where children are invited to pet, brush and feed the friendly animals. Darryl Sheridan has been running the mobile farm for 21 years and has gradually built up a collection of creatures to the point they are

now able to bring along mothers and their babies. He said it was a fun experience for young and old. “I’m so excited to come along for the expo,” Darryl said. “Everyone has a different favourite animal. “It’s just the best to get everyone along and have them spend some time and enjoy the animals.” Farmer Darryl’s Mobile Animal Farm will both entertain and educate for the three days of the expo, with Story Time also running at 3#pm every day. You’ll flip out over these dogs Prepare to be amazed and delighted when Flipping Disc Dogz take to the stage at the Seymour expo. Forget sit, drop and roll over, Beau Pearson and Sim Hellebrand’s nine border collies will show you tricks you never thought possible. From high flying acrobatics, to world-first and Australia-first tricks 18 months in the making, the Flipping Disc Dogz are truly a sight to behold. The four-paw high-five by Super Santa will be a highlight of the show. Super Santa is just one of three dogs in the world able to perform the trick and will also attempt to get all four paws standing on someone’s knuckles. After last year’s world record-breaking feat, which saw one of their dogs jump 15 people, Beau said he was excited to get back to Seymour’s Kings Park and even have a crack at jumping 16 people in one leap. “It’ll be good to be back, it’s our first show back essentially since COVID so everything’s been bottled up,” he said. “It’s great for the town of Seymour and regional towns. “We kept (the dogs) entertained with lots of swims but in reality they hated lockdown, they love performing. “Before they go on stage they get so excited and they hear the music they go berserk.” If you’ve ever wanted to see a dog on a skateboard, your wish will be granted with the main oval event, with a potential competition between two of the dogs even on the cards. And a trick entitled the ‘big jumper’ will leave you on the edge of your seat, as one of the furry performance climbs up a 3"m wall before jumping into Beau’s arms. Located on the main oval.

Wooden treasures crafted by hand The 3D images on Phil Willems’ wooden jewellery boxes make his products stand out among others. The intricate carving of animals such as horses, koalas and kangaroos that grace the lids of his jewellery boxes certainly show Phil’s love of working with wood. Phil has also turned his hand to products such as antipasto platter boards, signs, bottle openers, stubby holders, game boards and children’s toys including planes and cars. All his products are made from recycled timber, from trees Phil salvages that are coming down. While Phil said he has worked with wood all of his life, it has been in the past 15 years he has built a business out of it after leaving work after injuring his back. His love of all things wooden is obvious in the products he makes these days, and visitors to the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo will have a chance to check out his work, as well as to buy a special piece to take home with them. Kelpies show off their skills Keen to see some kelpies in action? Beloka Kelpies Working Dog Training has got you covered. Returning to the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo for another year, Paul Macphail, the big dog in charge, said event goers could expect to see a few demonstrations with the trained dogs, halftrained dogs and puppies. “We’ll bring a few sheep and ducks for the demos, like last year,” he said. Mr Macphail said they would also talk about the difference in attitudes of kelpies and other dogs. “We’ll talk about how best to train them. “How not to go down the road of treat training, instead focusing on off-lead obedience.” Mr Macphail said kelpies were

Cute cattle will delight crowds If there is one breed which has benefitted most from the boom in pet cattle, it’s the ginger-coated Scottish Highland. Since recognition as a registered breed in Australia in 2015, polled and miniature Highland varieties have been established which are selling faster than breeders can raise them. Mayfield Poll Highland Cattle stud principal Julia Webster plans to bring one polled bull calf and two heifers from her stud to the Seymour expo!—!to the delight of anyone on the hunt for the perfect Instagram picture. “Interest in them as been amazing at past Seymour expos now that we’ve
bred the horns out,” Ms Webster said. “They are technically a meat breed but we have a large amount of interest in them for pets.” Ms Webster said steers normally go to ‘ornamental’ homes while heifers go to breeders. Scottish Highland cattle are an inquisitive and adaptable breed, which excel as foragers and shed their coats when the heat rises. Up close and personal with alpacas Always a popular attraction at the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is Avenel Ridge Alpacas. The stud’s display encompasses the animals and product. “Part of that is the interaction with people,” stud owner Daniel Boote said. “We’ll discuss the farming process from husbandry, health care, nutritional needs and to the overall set-up required to care for alpacas,” he said. “We find that alpacas interacting with visitors plays a big part in helping to explain that. “It is a hands-on experience, we like to allow people to be up-

Eden Rise Alpacas can teach you about the hands-on side of alpacas. Stud owner Samantha Schwebach said they would have three alpacas for people to come and see at this year’s Seymour Alternative Farming Expo. Samantha said Eden Rise Alpacas loved coming to the expo to educate people about how alpacas make great companion animals. “It’s a great opportunity to learn more about alpacas,” she said. “We’ll educate on how wonderful they are, what they can produce but also how they’re good herd guard and companion animals.” Patrons can also get their hands on knitted products from the fleeces and fibres of Eden Rise Alpacas, including mittens, beanies and scarves. Plus imported alpaca products from Peru. Eden Rise Alpacas is based in Glenaroua, Victoria and started about 12 years ago. The farms has about 60 alpacas. Small in size, big in value Dexter cattle are a staple on small farms for good reason. The dual-purpose breed’s stout size means they are fantastically economical and their wider diet makes them perfect weed-whackers. The Dexter Cattle Promotion Group of Victoria is a small club whose members have spent decades rebuilding the breed after it was declared ‘rare’ in the 1970s. “They are great as meat, milk and pets,” a group spokesperson said. “They are really perfect for that alternative-type farmer and people on smaller blocks who want to raise their own food.” Rather than being a shiny new designer breed, Dexter cattle have been in Australia since the 1890s and enjoyed popularity before the disappearance of the ‘house cow’ decimated the national herd. Those interested can inspect Dexter cattle at the group’s stall and get more information about breed care and its origins in Ireland where it was highly valued by peasant farmers. Wool bonanza at Seymour Anyone with a passing interest in wool will be in heaven at Seymour expo’s Sheep Pavilion. The Strong Wool Breeders Association will be showing several interesting wool sheep breeds, including the historic Romney, large Lincolns, long-woolled English Leicester and long-eared Border Leicesters. Accompanying the sheep will be their breeders, keen to answer questions and offer up “general sheep advice”, according to association organiser Jason O’Loghlin. “The Strong Wool Breeders Association is all about the pure-bred, historic wool breeds,” he said. This year is also a big milestone for Mr O’Loghlin, who will mark a decade showing his Wiltshire Horns at the expo. “The Wiltshires are more a hobby sheep because they shed their coat and are low maintenance,” he said. Wool sheep are a rarity on small and hobby farms, which makes these iconic British breeds an even greater spectacle in the pavilion. Visit the Livestock Hub. Rare breed makes expo debut Both commercial sheep farmers and hobbyists looking for placid pets should check out the Persian stall. Rare in Australia but beloved in Africa, the Persian sheep is often mistaken for a goat because of their lack of wool. Calbrook Persian Stud principal Tim Stapleton said the breed was the ‘Brahman of sheep’ and presented an interesting option for northern lamb producers and those on marginal land. Persian rams are used overseas as terminal sires to produce heat and drought tolerance for primary producers. The breed, which helped create the popular Dorper, is also a well-suited pet and won’t hesitate to take down a blackberry bush. Mr Stapleton said thanks to ancestors being controlled by shepherds, not fences, the gene pool is very docile. “The flighty ones got eaten by lions, so they don’t stray,” he said. “This is my first time at the expo and this is a very rare breed in Australia,

The local ag store will be showcasing electrical fencing, Rapid Spray products and water tanks. Branch manager Wayne Rowe said the store wasn’t just focused on farmers and was happy to be approached by any ‘townies’ looking to upgrade their gardens. “In town the slimline tanks are quite popular,” Mr Rowe said. He said electric fencing was always a talking point at the expo, as many hobbyists and small acreage
owners aren’t fully aware of how easy-to-use the fencing can be. “The alternative crowd sometimes don’t know what can be done with the fencing in terms of strip grazing and pest-proofing.” A selection of Rapid Spray products will also be on display, including backpack units useful for weed spraying on smaller properties. At the Seymour expo, the business will showcase mobile solar pump units that were developed to answer customer calls for them to be towable. “Pumps are now the easier option!—!a lot of people are moving away from windmills,” manager Kelvin Foote said. “You can tow them on the road, tow it to your bore, put it down the hole and off you go.” Visit site B59.
Thinking outside the square When you think of construction materials to put aside when you build a home, you think of timber, brick, mortar, concrete for the slab and tiles or metal for the roof. You normally don’t think of hemp, but David Brian from Southern Hemp in Moama wants to put it on the map as a construction material. He’ll be bringing the crop, which is normally associated with hippies instead of construction, to the Seymour expo to show off its properties as a building material!—!when mixed with lime it becomes an alternative to use to construct walls. “A lot of people who see it are quite excited and see the sustainable benefits of it,” David said. “It’s sustainable and it has the highest fire safety rating you can get.” Hemp and lime construction is also mould and
pest free and has high insulation benefits, with up to 80 per cent less energy costs for heating. David will build a hemp-insulated wall at the expo, with two demonstrations a day at 10.30!am and 2!pm. Last year he constructed a dog kennel made with hemp, but this year was looking to exhibit how well it could be used in a home. “It uses a timber frame to build a solid hemp wall and it’s the whole wall, it just needs some rendering when it’s done.” David said he would also be giving advice to farmers keen to grow hemp. “There are a number of properties growing it around Victoria, some are still in the trial phase. “It’s not easy to establish as it’s a delicate juvenile plant but once it gets going it’s robust.” Visit site T47.

Sunflower Solar sales executive David Moeliker said the panels could chop as much as 60 per cent off power bills for large irrigators and producers.
Solar panels mimic sunflowers Sunflowers are best known!—!along with their bright yellow petals!—!for following the sun, and Sunflower Solar is bringing that technology to energy production. They’ll have a display at the Seymour expo giving punters a small taste of their large-scale operations, which have been rolling out across northern Victoria and southern NSW. The large-scale solar panel array tracks and follows the sun from sunrise to sunset using two axes instead of one!—!giving far more power than static panels or systems which have just one axis. The display will feature a small solar panel that will track the sun during the day, and David Moeliker said he would be giving the sales pitch to irrigators, dairy farmers and more as to how much they could save with increasing power production. FOOD & DRINK The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is a foodie’s delight. With an action-packed schedule of demonstrations over the three days, there’s no escaping the delicious smells wafting from the Country Kitchen. Secret Garden chef Adrian Hensley will again don his chef hat for the educational and interactive sessions. After a recent surge in baking, bread will feature heavily in the demonstrations.
There’s something for both parents and kids, with Adrian’s daughter Lila taking over the stove to demonstrate the versatility of the humble egg to give youngsters the confidence to cook breakfast for the family. “It’s a fun event and it’s a little different than everything else,” Adrian said. Joining Adrian will be experienced butcher Vic Bonacci.
Kitchen staples of pork and beef will be on display at the expo, while less common cuts and meats like venison will also be featured. And Meet the Makers is back, with a number of brewers, distillers and winemakers to showcase their goods during happy hour. There are also plenty of options for a refreshing drink or a tasty meal in the Food Court.

Pulled pork is on the menu
Secret Garden chef Adrian Hensley is back again with his much-loved cooking demonstrations.
Pulled pork rolls have become something of a trend in recent years, and those craving one when they attend the Seymour expo will be glad to hear Danish Bake and Smokehouse is there to itch the scratch. Regulars at the expo, owner Henrik Dichmann said their smoked meat rolls had been a big hit at recent events. Add some hot chips, for what Henrik said was the perfect pairing. For those looking for something different to pulled pork and pulled beef, Danish Bake and Smokehouse will have delicious pies and pastries on offer. Visit Food Court E.
Cook up a storm with Adrian and Lila
Get ready for a salivating series of cooking demonstrations from Secret Garden, with chef Adrian Hensley ready to cook up a storm at this year’s Seymour Alternative Farming Expo. After a recent surge in baking, bread will feature heavily in the demonstrations. From a delicious ciabatta to tantalising Turkish bread!—!you’ll know how to make it all by the end of the expo. There’s something for both parents and kids, with Adrian’s daughter Lila taking over the stove to demonstrate the versatility of the humble egg to give youngsters the confidence to cook breakfast for the family. “It’s all about encouraging parents to stay in bed,” Adrian said with a laugh. The ‘eggcellent’ demonstration on Saturday morning will feature all the key elements of cooking an egg and ensuring you achieve a light and fluffy scrambled egg and a delicately poached egg for the perfect breakfast dish. And, there’s even something for history buffs, with a turn-of-the-century pastry roller to form a key part of Adrian’s bench set-up. After finding the gem on Facebook, he’s been working hard to restore the roller which was originally used at the old Four and Twenty pie bakery in Bendigo. It will take centre stage as Adrian create a delicious selection of brisket pies. The smoked meat will open the doors to a wider smoking demonstration, with Adrian running you through the finer details of smoking and making pulled pork and ribs. After a few months off the events circuit due to COVID-19, Adrian is looking forward to getting back to the expo. “It’s good to be back,” he said. Located in the Country Kitchen.

Shearasun Brewery is back once again for the Seymour expo and this year the nano brewery is planning to unveil its new promotional ute. Two years in the making, independent brewer Glenn Shearer said the new ute included new LED screens explaining the nano brewing process. “We’ll have the same bar set up as last year,” he said.
“And we’ll probably focus on our IPA this year and our pale.” Not to be left out of the fun, the brewery is planning to continue with its annual tradition at the Seymour expo, by including a surprise beer for taste testers over the weekend. “Last year we did a West Coast IPA,” Mr Shearer said. “We’re thinking this year we might release our XPA. “But I do think the biggest thing this year will be the unveiling of the ute.” Located in Food Court B.

Have your say on major rail project The Australian Rail Track Corporation is working in communities across north-east Victoria to deliver two essential rail projects to improve freight and passenger services. The end is in sight for the North East Rail Line Upgrade, which has improved reliability and ride quality for passenger services between Melbourne and Albury-Wodonga. But there’s still much to do, and more opportunities to have your say, before construction works start on the Victorian section of Inland Rail. Inland Rail is a fast freight backbone from Melbourne to Brisbane that will transform how we move goods around Australia. It will better link businesses, farmers and producers to national and global markets and generate new
opportunities for industries and regions. In Victoria, Inland Rail involves increasing clearances at structures along the existing rail line to provide sufficient height and width to support the safe running of double-stacked freight trains. This means new bridges in some locations, lowering tracks in others and whole new rail station precincts in others. As project designs continue to take shape, ARTC has been seeking community views to build into its urban design framework to ensure

Showcasing farm machinery The 2021 Seymour Alternative Farming Expo will see the John Sanderson Machinery team return for a ninth consecutive year. Josh Sanderson, a third-generation family member to be involved in the business, said the decision to return each year was an easy one. “The expo is a great way of catching up with existing customers in the area or people you don’t normally see,” Josh said. “And it gives us a chance to showcase our range to new potential customers.” This year, the Nagambie-based dealership will showcase a broad range of machinery, including Massey Ferguson tractors ranging from compact tractors with 23"hp, to those with 150"hp. Seymour is moving ahead One of the high points for me of the redistribution and transition of the electorate of Murray to the electorate of Nicholls has been the inclusion of the southern region of the Goulburn Valley and, in particular, the township of Seymour and its 6000 people. I have had the privilege to meet with many community groups and local leaders who are inspiring growth with ideas and projects. Seymour is a regional rail hub, being at the junction of the Shepparton and North East rail lines. The Morrison-McCormack government has provided crucial funding for rail upgrades, with $235 million for the North East line and $320 million for stage three of the Shepparton line. At a community level, Kings Park received $487,000 from the Building
Better Regions Fund that matched council and community funding for a new pavilion that will be used for all sorts of events during the whole year particularly for expos, field days, the Seymour Show and Riding for the Disabled. Seymour has strong ties with the Australian Defence Force, with the Australian Army Puckapunyal Base just east of the town. There is a strong veteran community in Seymour. They have been instrumental in developing the
