Fundraiser set to properly outfit K9 officer Evi News release Competition K9 in Placerville is working with the El Dorado County Canine Association to raise funds for a patrol vest for the community’s newest K9 officer. Evi is a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois from Germany. She joined the El Dorado County Sheriff ’s Office in 2023 and works with her partner, Deputy Sheriff Walker Combs. Together they patrol El Dorado County, keeping residents and visitors safe from the bad guys. Because of the dangerous work she does, Evi needs a patrol vest when she’s on the job. Evi is a small Malinois and the vests available don’t fit. They are either too small (she has trouble breathing;

it’s very tight) or too large (it rides up and exposes her to potential injury plus rubs chucks of her coat off ). She needs a custom-fitted patrol vest. EDCSO K9s are unique in that their partners/handlers ■ See EVI, page A7

embers of the Cameron Park Rotary Club and partner organizations gathered last week at Folsom State Prison to distribute about 150 refurbished bicycles to five groups serving families in need, including homeless residents and refugees from Afghanistan and Ukraine. The giveaway is the latest chapter in a program that Rotarians say continues to expand as donations remain strong. What began back in 1986 as a way to keep discarded bicycles out of landfills has grown into a regional effort linking service clubs, the prison, bike shops and community donors to put refurbished bikes under children, refugees and people trying to get back on their feet. “This program has been going on for years,” said
