FAIRFIELD — A blistering heat wave continued Saturday across Solano County with expectations things will only get hotter as Labor Day approaches. Solano County health officials have for days stressed how important it is for people to take precautions to protect themselves from the effects of the heat. That includes staying properly hydrated and making use as needed of various cooling centers that are open across the county.

County libraries, shopping malls and other similar public venues are good places for area residents to go to escape the excessive heat this weekend. The high Sunday at the Nut Tree Airport is projected to reach 107, climb to 111 on Labor Day, top out at 112 Tuesday and drop back to 107 Wednesday, the National Weather Service reports. The mercury hit 108 Friday and 103 Saturday. Highs Sunday at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield are projected to reach 103 Sunday, 104 Monday, 106 Tuesday and

102 Wednesday, the weather service reports. The high Friday was 97: It was 100 Saturday. Temperatures were projected to be so hot that city officials on Friday decided the Allan Witt Aquatics Complex would close at noon Saturday and remain closed until the scheduled fitness swim time at 7 a.m. Tuesday. However, slash play areas are open each day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Gary Falati Park and at Mankas Neighborhood Park. The Walter Graham Aquatic See Heat, Page A9

FAIRFIELD — Developers of the Middle Green Valley Specific Plan will have to complete master water and stormwater plans, as well as provide a more detailed financial plan before they can start building any of the 390 homes in the project. They also must still choose a water provider – Vallejo or the Solano Irrigation District with Fairfield treatment – and meet the conditions spelled out on nearly two dozen pages by the county planning staff. The list of conditions alone inspired a “wow” from Commissioner Kay Cayler, who joined the majority Thursday in recommending the Board of Supervisors approve the first two tentative subdivision maps.

VACAVILLE — The lush greens, ruby red strawberries, midnight blue blueberries along with watermelons and even some fresh bread are just some of the fare available each Saturday at the farmers market. Carolina Milhassi came to the market Saturday with her two children and husband during a cool morning – cool relative to the day’s projected triple-digit temperatures, at least. They listened Saturday to some smooth jazz and were carrying home some fresh strawberries and tomatoes. “We just came for the first time last week,” Milhassi said. “This is a great place with some shade and music. It is a great environment.” The Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District hosts the summer farmers market, which brings in local

“There is a lot of work to be done, but this is an important step,” said Charity Wagner, the listed applicant who represents a number of the landowners involved in the development. The Thursday night vote was 3-1 with Commissioner Paula Bauer dissenting and Commissioner Loretta Gaddies absent. Commissioner Mike Reagan noted in making the motion that the decision on the planning application was one for the supervisors to make, and whether the commission recommended approval or denial, that is where the matter was headed. What the developers do not have to do is redo any of the requirements already completed, such new reviews on the
