County offers tips to deal with

EXCESSIVE HEAT

FAIRFIELD — The average daily number of coronavirus cases in Solano County from the past seven days went up slightly from the previous week, but the 10-day average dropped. The Solano County Public Health Division also on Thursday reported one more Covidrelated death, a woman older than 65 who died in an out-of-county care facility in March 2021. The woman had been on a ventilator for Covid-19 in a Solano hospital from December 2020 until she was released to the boarding facility, Dr. Bela Matyas, the county public health officer, said Thursday in

a phone interview. Her death came before vaccines were available to the general public. It takes the total number of Covid-related deaths in the county to 436. The daily average, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, was 83.6 cases, while the average for Aug. 19 to Aug. 25 was 82.3. The 10-day daily average dropped from 80.9 cases to 79.9 cases, the county reported. The number of Solano residents in hospitals with positive tests went down from 27 to 22, and the number of patients in area intensive care units with the disease was at four. That was down from five from the previous weekly report, the See Covid, Page A7

Commission supports Middle Green Valley subdivision maps Todd R. Hansen

THANSEN@DAILYREPUBLIC.NET

FAIRFIELD — A decision about the first tentative subdivision maps for the Middle Green Valley Specific Plan – one that was going to belong to the Board of Supervisors one way or the other – will go to the board with a recommendation of approval from the Planning Commission. The commission, on a 3-1 vote Thursday night, recommended approval of a Middle Green Valley Specific Plan application that includes two

tentative subdivision maps – one that creates lots for 322 of the 390 homes allowed in the development. The commission did add to the recommended condition that an accredited land trust oversea all open space easements. Commissioner Paula Bauer dissented, saying she did not oppose the project but wanted some questions answered. Thursday’s public hearing was the latest step for a project that has been presented in a host of boardrooms and See Valley, Page A7
