FAIRFIELD — Armijo High School senior Elmer Sosa had no idea what to expect when he pulled up to the Fairfield-Suisun Adult School Wednesday night to pick up his packet as one of the top students in the Fairfield-Suisun School District. “Honestly, it’s bigger than I thought it would be,” said Sosa, who pulled up and got out of his own car. “I thought I was just picking up my packet and driving off. I’m happy to get the recognition.” Sosa participated in the Highest Honors ceremony, recognizing those high school students in the district who were able to carry a GPA of 4.0 or higher. FAIRFIELD — Seven new cases in Vacaville, six in Fairfield and five in Vallejo pushed the Solano County coronavirus cases total Thursday to 33,111. That was 25 more cases than reported which Wednesday, included 60 mostly from cases not reported from January and February. The seven-day positivity rate dropped to 5.6% Thursday after jumping to 6.4% Wednesday. It was at 5.8% the two previous days. Fairfield’s case total is now 9,011, while Vallejo’s new cases push its count to 9,814. Vacaville is at 8,639. Suisun City added three cases to take its total to 2,273, while Dixon (1,910) added one case; Benicia (986) added two cases; and Rio Vista (373) added one case.

FAIRFIELD — California is struggling to recover from new unemployment claims, with last week’s claims higher than at the start of 2020, according to WalletHub’s updated rankings for the States Whose Unemployment Claims Are Recovering the Quickest. Weekly unemployment claims in California increased by 89.6% compared to the same week in 2019, according to the study. This was the 13th smallest increase in the

U.S. Weekly unemployment claims in California increased by 93.26% compared to the start of 2020. This was the 18th biggest increase in the U.S. Weekly unemployment claims in California decreased by 70.97% compared to the same week last year. This was the 17th smallest decrease in the U.S. There are 9.8 million Americans unemployed due to the Covid-19, according to the report.
