FA I R F I E L D — A spokesman for the VA Northern California Health Care System said there is no decision yet about whether the pharmacies at the Fairfield and Mare Island clinics will be closed. Jason Dominguez, chief of Public Affairs, also denied any rumors that the clinics would be shuttered. “There are no plans to close the Fairfield and Mare Island VA Clinics,” Dominquez wrote in an email response to the Daily Repub-
lic’s inquiries. The newspaper had been informed by multiple veterans advocates and other sources close to the clinics that the pharmacies are going to be closed. “There are ongoing discussions with our labor partners about the pharmacies at the Mare Island and Fairfield VA Clinics. However, no final decisions have been made at this time,” Dominguez wrote. Dedrick Waterford, the Veterans Experience coordinator for the See Future, Page A7

VALLEJO — The Bay Area Stage flea market has not only helped the theatrical organization survive during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has also made for some interesting experiences for BAS co-founder Stacey Loew, who operates the sale. Loew also credits the landlords from Sir Winston Financial Services telling Bay Area Stage to pay
what they can in rent. The flea market would not exist without that blessing, Loew said. “We would have had to close our doors for good,” she shared in an email to the Daily Republic. “We would have to sell off everything because storage fees would have been too great.” Sales from the flea market and patron donations have kept Bay Area Stage in good standing with all utilities, insurance and some of the rent.
“BAS has remained in good standing and debt-free, which is a tremendous relief,” Loew wrote. By remaining active and open, new people have come to discover the theater, she wrote. Loew recognizes some will not return to see performances. “Many will,” she wrote. “And that is another huge plus.” Donations have run the gamut from clothes and kitchenware to a

WASHINGTON — Republicans may be ready to support limited infrastructure spending in President Joe Biden’s spending proposal, which would require scaling back the $2.25 trillion plan by more than twothirds, a senior GOP senator said. With Biden’s Americans Jobs Plan on the table for less than a week, administration officials and Senate Republicans took to the Sunday news shows to lay out opposing positions. Brian Deese, a key adviser who heads Biden’s National Economic Council, said the plan is a “one-time, eightyear capital investment” that tackles classic infrastructure projects like repairing bridges, and also includes investments aimed at promoting longterm job growth. “It’ll expand our economy’s potential,” See Plan, Page A7
