UCD looks at path to citizenship

Back on stage Shows return to Mondavi in October

Study: Would boost GDP by $1.7 trillion

By Jeff Hudson Enterprise correspondent The Mondavi Center’s new online brochure — coming after 1,800-seat Jackson Hall has been silent for more than a year, and the Vanderhoef Studio Theater has hosted daily COVID-19 testing for both campus and community — gets right to the point: In big, bold letters are the words “We Are Back.” To which is added, “After 19 months, the Mondavi Center reopens its doors this fall.” Or as Mondavi’s executive director Don Roth puts it, “Launching a season on the heels of a pandemic year, which kept our theaters dark for more than a year and a half, makes this a truly extraordinary moment.” As you might expect, the 2021-22 season will feature return engagements for some familiar faces who’ve played Jackson Hall before. But quite a few artists and speakers who are new to Mondavi will be seen as well. And the season is organized in a somewhat

A new report from the UC Davis Global Migration Center and the Center for American Progress found that the United States would get a significant economic boost by providing a pathway to citizenship for the country’s roughly 10 million undocumented immigrants. The researchers used an aggregate macro-growth simulation to create a model of what the U.S. workforce and economy would look like if all 10 million undocumented immigrants — as well as certain subsets of that population — were able to legalize their immigration status. Allowing immigrants without status to become U.S. citizens would add roughly $1.7 trillion to the nation’s economy and create 438,000 new jobs, the UC Davis researchers estimated. The report found that providing a pathway to citizenship for all undocumented immigrants would raise the

Supervisors OK $537M budget Yolo County joins rest of state in reopening

By Anne Ternus-Bellamy Enterprise staff writer Yolo County’s Board of Supervisors approved a $573 million recommended budget for 202122 on Tuesday, a document that will serve as an interim spending plan until a final budget is approved in the fall. Between now and then, the county will be determining how to spend its $42.8 million in American Rescue Plan funds and awaiting a final state budget. What impact the reopening of the economy will have on local revenue also remains to be seen. But heading into summer, the county is “in a

Yolo County on Tuesday joined the rest of the state in moving “beyond the blueprint” and back into a fully reopened economy. The state eliminated its color-coded, tier-based COVID-19 blueprint on Tuesday, removing capacity restrictions on businesses and eliminating masking requirements for fully vaccinated residents in most settings. Unvaccinated individuals will still be required to wear face coverings. The change applies to

all counties in the state, regardless of where they were in the tier system entering Tuesday. As of Tuesday, the following restrictions apply: n Capacity limitations: No restrictions n Physical distancing: No restrictions for attendees, customers and guests. Workers on the job must maintain physical distancing and schools should keep student desks at least 3 feet apart. n Masking: Individuals who are fully vaccinated do not need to wear a mask in most settings.
