Floyd E. Singleton
May 29, 1920 - Aug. 17, 2021
Lt. Colonel Floyd E. Singleton was born May 29, 1920, in Abilene, Texas to Floyd E. and Lucile (Feazel) Singleton. His early childhood was spent in Texas. He moved to Placerville, Calif., in 1936 and married his high school sweetheart, Noreen Bonillo, in 1940. A decorated war veteran, Floyd served with the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, including World War II, the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War. During World War II he piloted B-26 aircraft with 65 missions in the European theater. During the Berlin Airlift, he piloted C-54 aircraft; and during the Korean War he piloted B-26s. He was an exchange officer with the British Royal Air Force for two years, piloting the R.A.F. Canberra. During his career, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 17 Oak Leaf Clusters among others. He and his wife moved to East Wenatchee, Wash., in 1966 after retiring from the Air Force. He owned and operated apple orchards until 1984, after which he and his wife spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. He was active in amateur radio and was a member of the American Radio Relay League and the Columbia Basin Net. He and his wife moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 2004 to be near family. He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Shari Blakey of Vancouver, Wash.; granddaughter, Kimberley McGair of Portland, Ore.; grandson, Dale Hanks of Denver, Colo., and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister.
Marty Doub (Ellsworth) May 24, 1942 - July 3, 2021
Raised in Whitehall, Calif., Marty attended El Dorado High School, San José State University and the Academy of Art in San Francisco. A thoughtful, independent and creative spirit, Marty was a portrait, fashion and wedding photographer who took pride in capturing the essence of her subjects. She generously shared her love of gardening and baking with friends and family and kept her independent spark and irreverent, fun-loving sense of humor throughout her life. Marty is survived by her daughter Yolanda Doub of Fresno and her brother Jim Ellsworth of Applegate. On Aug. 14 she was laid to rest next to her parents, Ted and Martha Ellsworth, and her youngest brother, John Ellsworth, in a private gathering at Placerville Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages all to think of something that Marty did, or that you love about her and incorporate more of it into your own life. Line your driveway with daffodils. Bake a cake for a friend. Eat your favorite See’s candy unapologetically. Take an impromptu free day; go to San Francisco, an art show, a film festival, a midnight movie (or all of the above). Love unabashedly. Try a new type of food. Go skinnydipping. Pursue a dream. Persevere with abandon. Help a friend in need. Crank up your favorite song or album and dance in your living room just because. Most of all, encourage and love the square pegs in your life, who, like Marty, make life richer when you let them in.
Meghann Elizabeth Green
Sept. 21, 1985 - Aug. 15, 2021
We mournfully announce the passing of Meghann Elizabeth Green, of Diamond Springs, Calif. Meghann passed away on Aug. 15, in an automobile accident. Meghann was born to Ron and Sara Green Sept. 21, 1985 in Redding, Calif. A loving and gentle spirit from the beginning, Meghann attended school in the Mother Lode Union School District in Placerville, Calif., and Union Mine High School in Diamond Springs, Calif., graduating in 2004 where she made many long lasting friendships. Meghann loved children and worked with them in different capacities her entire life. She was a compassionate, gentle and creative soul who always thought of others before herself. She loved all animals. Her cat, Emma held a special place in Meghann’s heart. She loved music, books and time spent with friends and family. She is preceded in death by her father Ron Green and survived by her mother Sara Green of Diamond Springs; brothers Marcus Green (wife Amanda, son Aiden) of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert Green of San Diego, Calif. A celebration of her life will be held at Green Valley Community Church, 3500 Missouri Flat Road, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. Those who so desire may make a donation in memory of Meghann to a local animal shelter.
EID flumes damaged El Dorado Irrigation District News release El Dorado Irrigation District staff learned Wednesday that facilities within its El Dorado Hydroelectric Project flume and canal system sustained damage as a result of the Caldor Fire. As soon as it is safe to do so EID crews will evaluate damage and begin the necessary repairs to return the water system back to service. EID will release additional information after evaluation of the damage. The flume and canal system is a vital component of EID’s complex water conveyance system. Jonathan Douglas Miller
Jan. 12, 1989 - July 29, 2021
Jonathan Douglas Miller, 32, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly July 29. He was born Jan. 12, 1989 in Placerville, Calif., and traveled the world as a merchant marine officer before settling in Paducah, Ky. in 2018. Jon attended the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, graduating in 2013 with a Third Assistant Engineers license. He worked for the American Bureau of Shipping as senior surveyor in Paducah inspecting towboats and barges from New Orleans to West Virginia on the upper and lower Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee rivers. He is survived by his father Douglas; mother Lydia; brother Bill; sister Sarah; fiancee Clarissa and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jon had an infectious personality and was a friend to anyone who ever met him. He was kind, sweet and will be greatly missed.
