Parker’s added proposals not really new Sel Richard Staff writer Parker Development’s proposed project of 1,000 units along El Dorado Hills Boulevard was, for the fourth time, the main topic at the El Dorado County Planning Commission meeting. Serrano Associates Director of Government Relations Kirk Bone on May 27 presented the second recirculated draft environmental impact report for the Central El Dorado Hills Specific Plan. The amended report now contains vehicle miles traveled data, a recently implemented traffic evaluation and two new alternatives for the unused land that was once a golf course — an option for land use pursuant to current zoning and a 1,200-unit senior living facility. The project as it stands hinges on a county General Plan amendment to allow the rezone of the defunct golf course from recreational facilities-high intensity to residential. In 2015 more than 91% of El Dorado Hills voters advised against a zoning amendment. Four years later nearly 500 residents turned out to protest the project at a public hearing held at District Church in January 2020. Last week Bone made it clear the new alternatives are merely a response to commission requests. “We’re not proposing any changes to the project. We just had four or five boxes we needed to check,” he stated, adding that the senior living option would likely require a new California Environmental Quality Act document that would put the project back to square one. “We would prefer a project that looks kind of like the proposed project that can utilize the existing CEQA documents.” Substantial discussion focused on vehicle miles traveled, a metric that shifts from the traditional measure of impacts on drivers to measuring the impact of driving. “This project is in a place where the facilities are there to promote shorter trips to stores and offices, which is why the (vehicle miles traveled) results came out the way that they did,” explained El Dorado County Senior Traffic Engineer Natalie Porter. Neither the vehicle miles traveled analysis nor the

Eagles celebrated at long overdue Court of Honor Special to Village Life

oy Scout Troop 193 recently hosted a Court of Honor at Holy Trinity in El Dorado Hills, celebrating the achievements of three exceptional Eagle Scouts. Family, friends, Boy Scout leaders and El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini attended the first in-person Court of Honor in more than a year. Robbie Deitz III started his scouting career near his home in Coloma with Pack 86, which met at Sutter School. He started a little late; his first rank was Lion. During his time in Cubs he attended two Scout Expos at Beale Air Force Base, participated in the annual Nature Bowl competition and earned the Cubs’ highest honor — Arrow of Light. After bridging out he joined Scout Troop 117 in Cameron Park with two of his other den mates. After a year he switched troops to 193. During his tenure with both troops he attended every campout and summer camp. His summer camps included Royaneh, Wente, Winton, Meriwether in Oregon, Emerald Bay in Catalina Island and Winter Camp at Marin Sierra. His visited Yosemite four times with Scouts, Sequoia National Park three times, Scout Expo three more times and attended every Scout Jamboree at Sly Park ■
