ocal Realtor Danielle Dutton calls her hobby “a dying art.” Growing up in the Bay Area, Dutton was enchanted by the beautiful stained-glass windows that adorn the community’s old churches and Victorian style homes. Six years ago she decided to delve deeper into her attraction for ornamental stained glass and looked to artist Philip Teefy, owner of the Rainbow Glass shop. Teefy has been in the stained-glass business for more than 45 years and is regularly called upon for help with restoring antique glasses and vintage church windows. His artwork can be purchased at his store in Sacramento. n

The Nextdoor website can be used for a variety of useful purposes — recommendations on who to call for home repairs, finding a lost dog, posting interesting pictures taken by amateur photographers. At its best, Nextdoor has become a place where the good in people can be brought together to help their community. El Dorado Hills resident and retired attorney William Barry saw Nextdoor as such a place and has used it connect with other likeminded individuals — those looking to help families who face financial hardship in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. A stained-glass piece created by Dutton dazzles.

CASA Kids Box Lunch fundraiser back on the menu n

Orders due by March 25

Andrew Vonderschmitt Staff writer Child Advocates of El Dorado County hosts its annual lunch box fundraiser April 15 — this year as a drivethru event. The annual event was postponed and eventually canceled in the midst of pandemic-related shutdowns in spring 2020 although the work of the organization continued. This year organizers took the opportunity to revamp the fundraiser to adhere to state and local COVID-19 guidelines, address public menu requests and create a new way to honor first responders. The 2021 event is dedicated to the late Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Riley, whose vision resulted in courtappointed special advocates organizing in El Dorado County in the 1990s. On April 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. preordered box lunches will be available to pick up at several locations.

West Slope pick up locations • El Dorado County Fairgrounds Plaza, 100 Placerville Drive in Placerville • Rolling Hills Church, 800 White Rock Road in El Dorado Hills Supporters will find new sandwich and salad options for their lunch box provided by High Sierra Industries, a premier food sponsor. Box lunch cost is $13.50. An additional new option to the ordering process allows participants to support first responders in the area. If they choose this option CASA will choose the community first responder and deliver a meal to them. No pick-ups are allowed for this option. Box lunch orders can be made up until March 25 on the CASA website casaeldorado.org or an order form can be picked up at the CASA office, 347 Main St. in Placerville. Child Advocates of El Dorado County advocates for and empowers abused, neglected and at-risk youth by providing court appointed volunteers who speak up for the needs of children.
