GM’s Corner
I am Scott Collier, the new GM for Thrift on Mill, Leamington. I am delighted to be joining the MCC TOM team. I have been busy learning a little more each day to get myself up to a level of MCC competency. The office team and Thrift on Mill staff and volunteers have been very welcoming and helpful. It has been a wonderful journey learning about all of the tremendous causes MCC supports through our thrift efforts.

We are officially halfway through the year, and I’m looking forward to summer. June usually brings lots of sunshine, a little rain, and plenty of quality time with friends and family. It’s a season when loved ones want to soak up the sun together and enjoy the longer days. I plan to say yes to as many invitations as possible, because those meaningful moments of connection strengthen relationships and increase endorphins.

I am married to Jodi and we have a total of 8 adult children and 3 grandchildren so far. We live in Kingsville. My background is extensive in business, retail management and financial services. I enjoy volunteering for many service and charitable causes. I look forward to meeting everyone.

June observances include Indigenous History Month, World Environment Day (June 5), World Refugee Day, and Father’s Day (June 21). This month, join me in learning more about Indigenous cultures, promoting environmental responsibility, listening to the stories of displaced people, and honouring the men in our lives. By paying attention to these observances, we can broaden our understanding and strengthen our relationships.

Now Hiring: A New Social Enterprise Pilot Project
MCC is launching a Social Enterprise Pilot Project inspired by The Raw Carrot model and is now hiring. The initiative will provide meaningful, supported part-time employment for six individuals facing long-term barriers, including those receiving ODSP or OW, from July to November. The project addresses the challenge of excess unsellable textiles from MCC Thrift Shops by repurposing them into industrial cleaning rags. These products will be sold to local businesses. This effort supports environmental sustainability, builds partnerships with community agencies, and creates local employment opportunities. If this feels like a role that might fit you or someone you know, and you are excited about helping us test out this social enterprise, please apply by sending a resume and cover letter to Jodi VanNoord at jodivannoord@mcco.ca. Strawberry Thanksgiving and Communion
Saturday, June 13 from 9am – 1pm at Six Nations Polytechnic in Oshweken, Ontario
You’re warmly invited to Strawberry Thanksgiving and Communion on Saturday, June 13, 2026. This year’s event will seek to build on the momentum of last year’s conversation about the Spiritual Covenant, which is a way to acknowledge Indigenous jurisdiction over lands through an annual token lease payment. $20 is recommended to help cover the cost of lunch. mcc.org/strawberry-thanksgiving
