Carrying the Work Together
Last month, I wrote about the retail flip and some of the changes we are beginning to work toward in the shop. Since then, the work has continued — some of it visible, and some of it happening more quietly in conversations, planning, measuring, sorting, and imagining how the space might better serve the work we do together.
We still do not have every detail finalized, but we are continuing to aim for the major move to happen in early August. As we get closer, we will share more specific information. Selina has also prepared a presentation about the retail flip and how volunteers can help. We will need help on the day of the big move itself, but also in the days leading up to it as we begin preparing, moving, sorting, and getting things ready.
I know change can bring mixed feelings. It can be exciting to imagine something fresh, but it can also feel uncertain when familiar spaces begin to shift. That is why we want to keep hearing from you. There is a suggestion box in the lunchroom where you are welcome to share your thoughts and ideas. Our doors are open as well if you have questions, concerns, or would simply like to talk through what is being planned.
At the same time, this has also been a season of transition for our retail team. While we have been preparing for the flip, we have also been searching for a new retail staff member. That has meant extra pressure in an already busy area of the shop, and I want to say how grateful I am for the many people who have helped carry that work.
Thank you to everyone who has stepped in to help in retail — straightening racks, helping customers, tidying displays, filling gaps, answering questions, and doing
the many small things that keep the floor moving. Some of that work is easy to notice, and some of it happens quietly in the background, but all of it matters.
I especially want to thank Sean and Marielle for the ways they have stepped up during this transition. Both have helped beyond their usual areas and have taken on extra responsibility during a difficult stretch. Their willingness to support the retail floor and the wider team has made a real difference, and I am very grateful. We are also glad to welcome Allison back to MCC Care & Share as our new retail team member. Many of you will already know Allison, and it is good to have her with us again. Her return comes at an important time, and we are thankful for the experience, care, and steady presence she will bring to the retail area.
As I think about this season, I am reminded again that MCC Care & Share has never been just about racks, shelves, displays, or sales. Those things matter, of course, because they help us do the work well. But underneath all of it are people — volunteers, staff, donors, customers, and community members — each playing a part in something bigger than any one of us.
Thank you for your patience, your encouragement, and your willingness to keep serving through a season of change. I am grateful for the way this community continues to carry the work together, and for the many ways you help us keep “Being the Care, Living the Share.”
