CLUB UPDATES
Dear Members,
As we settle into the summer season, I would like to take a moment to recognize our team for their hard work and commitment The first half of the year has been filled with memorable events, exciting improvements, and plenty of activity, none of which would have been possible without their contributions
One of the highlights of the year so far was our Men's Member-Member Tournament. The event was a tremendous success and a true team effort Countless hours of preparation went into making the weekend special, and I could not be more proud of the staff who worked together to make it happen
That same commitment continues every day Between weather challenges, facility improvements, and the demands of the season, our team consistently approaches each day with a positive attitude and a genuine desire to provide an exceptional experience for our members and guests. I am grateful for all they do.
Summer is now in full swing, and it has been wonderful to see members and guests enjoying the Club From Sunday Fundays at the pool to Seafood Night, Tapas & Tunes, and the many other activities and dining experiences throughout the season, there are plenty of opportunities to spend time with family and friends and enjoy all that summer at Wilson has to offer.
With Independence Day just around the corner, we are especially excited to celebrate one of the season's favorite traditions As America marks its 250th anniversary, I look forward to celebrating the holiday weekend with you, whether at our Pool Cookout, on the golf course, or enjoying time around the Club.
Thank you for your continued support and membership I wish you and your family a happy Fourth of July and a wonderful remainder of the summer
Warm regards,
Maya Panayotova General Manager
Star Campers
If you met Thurston this week, you probably left with a big smile His energy, personality, and excitement were contagious from the moment he arrived each morning, and he had a special way of making every activity more fun for everyone around him He was always eager to try new things, make new friends, and lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Whether he was participating in games, encouraging others, or simply sharing a laugh, Thurston brought a positive attitude that helped create a welcoming and exciting atmosphere throughout the week One of the highlights of camp was when Thurston taught everyone his Michael Jackson dance moves Before long, campers and counselors alike were joining in, creating one of those unforgettable camp moments that will be talked about for a long time
Virginia was a wonderful example of what it means to be a leader at camp She jumped into every activity with a positive attitude, encouraged those around her, and was always the first to lend a helping hand Coach Grace and Coach Alex both shared how great she was during golf and racket sports, and every counselor commented on what a pleasure she was to have each day Her kindness, leadership, and enthusiasm made a lasting impact on everyone at camp Congratulations!

As much as I'd like to spend this newsletter talking about the heat, drought conditions, and the steps we're taking to combat them, I think I'll choose to focus on something much more exciting the celebration of our nation's 250th birthday How special it is to be part of this historic milestone as this newsletter reaches your inbox just ahead of Independence Day. It has certainly been a trying few months The biggest challenge is that we have not been getting the rainfall that we need to produce the product that we are accustomed to putting out At this point, we are at approximately 50% of the total depth of the water in the pond, and rough figuring would put us at about 40% of the total volume of water if the pond was full to the slopes of the banks as well as the bottom of the
pond. We are at a point where we have no other choice than to cut the water off on the fairways and rough. We are watering tees, but sparingly. The greens will continue to be our concentration from here forward. I have set up a siphon on the dam at #12 and it is ready to go if we get to a point of needing more water I have talked with the city, and they have attempted to put a bush fix on the dam again, as well as contacting a contractor that will do some polymer injections into any voids that may be in the dam I have also talked with them about getting things in place in case we need to purchase water from them for irrigation While the bush fix is complete, the rest of it is in the works.
Aside from the lack of rain, the extreme temperatures are only adding stress to the course I can tell you from my years of experience that when we have over 50 days of 90-degree or higher temperatures, it is extremely hard on the greens To date (June 17) we are at 21 days, and two of those have been over 100 degrees here in Wilson The long-range forecast on Weather.com shows only one or two days below 90 through the end of July. I haven’t even looked into August.
All we can do is pray that, first, we get some rain and relief from the forecasted temperatures and, secondly, that the newer fungicides, which have allowed us to have a few very successful summers in a row, will prove their worth this summer by defending the plants and allowing them to stay strong!
While the current conditions present some challenges, I wanted to keep you informed of where we stand and the steps we are taking to protect the golf course.
I do hope I get to see you all out on the course!
Kind Regards,
Craig Clemmer Wilson Country Club Superintendent
