CLUB UPDATES

Dear Members,

I hope you all are enjoying the summer. I wanted to provide an update on the progress of the projects happening at the club.

Restaurant Renovation

Kenan Room renovations have begun, and we’re currently demoing the bar area and expanding the space to accommodate more seating and provide better functionality The room will have a more modern design with a similar color scheme to the lobby and the Sanford Room. Carpet, tables, chairs, and lighting will be updated. The space will function more as a lounge for golfers and members to hang out, and Sanford will be used additionally as a dining room. We’re anticipating the project to be completed by mid-August.

The team has also taken advantage of these temporary facility closures to complete additional improvements throughout the Club Most notably, the ballroom has been freshly painted, creating a brighter and more refined appearance that complements the ongoing enhancements in adjacent spaces

Our new pool amenities have been a tremendous addition this summer. The High Tide Bar & Grill, 19 Hole/Men’s Grill, and cabanas have quickly become favorite gathering spots, and members can now enjoy the convenience of mobile ordering to the High Tide Bar & Grill, making it easier than ever to enjoy lunch or refreshments without missing time with family and friends

We would also like to remind members that coolers and outside beverages (other than water bottles), as well as outside food, are not permitted in the pool area. With mobile ordering now available through High Tide Bar & Grill, members can easily pre-order refreshments and meals for convenient poolside enjoyment.

New Golf Shop Location

The question of the day has finally been answered, and I am excited to announce that the former office space has been approved to become the new golf shop location The space has already been renovated due to the sprinkler flood that occurred earlier in the year, but we will still need to make some modifications prior to utilizing the space Our goal is to reopen the restaurant and golf shop at the same time I will continue to provide updates on the progress in the coming weeks.

I would like to recognize Mark and the entire Grounds Crew Maintenance Team for the exceptional work they have done managing the challenging drought conditions this season Through their dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts, the golf course continued to perform remarkably well during an extended period of dry weather Thanks to their hard work and the recent rainfall, the course is now in outstanding condition and continues to receive compliments from members and guests alike Please join me in thanking them for their commitment to maintaining the high standards we all enjoy.

As America prepares to celebrate our 250 anniversary of the Declaration of Independence Sedgefield Country Club celebrates a milestone as well turning 100 years old! Established in 1926, Sedgefield Country Club has experienced parallel moments alongside with our great nation From the roaring 20s, to the great depression, World War II to social change, the club has grown with America itself over the years Let me highlight a few exciting moments from McConnell Golf’s most historic property; Sedgefield Country Club: th

1936: Tony Manero, the Head Pro at Sedgefield, won the U.S. Open. His victory is still regarded as one of the greatest upsets in U.S. Open History.

May 8, 1953: Representatives from seven schools gathered at Sedgefield to declare independence from the Southern Conference and build the Atlantic Coast Conference

March 17, 1955: Ronald Reagan visited Sedgefield for a GE meeting during his time as the company’s national spokesperson Between 1954 to 1962, this role with GE transformed Ronald Reagan’s career, allowing him to travel to 135 GE plants, meet over 250,000 employees where he would evolve from an actor into a polished conservative political speaker.

1961: Charlie Sifford became the first black golfer to play in a PGA TOUR event in the South, finishing tied for fourth place in the Greater Greensboro Open at Sedgefield Country Club Today Charlie is honored with a plaque on The Wall of Champions behind the 9 green at Sedgefield th

2022: Sir Nick Faldo was added to the Wall of Champions as his first PGA TOUR start was at Sedgefield in 1979

In 2022, he retired from broadcasting as the CBS Sports lead golf analyst with the Wyndham Championship being his last event. Pretty amazing how his professional career began and ended at Sedgefield.

I could go on forever about the tournament history alone at Sedgefield but highly encourage you to attend the 2026 Wyndham Championship August 5-9. Member tickets are available for purchase that will grant you access to the clubhouse and McConnell Golf platforms on 15, 17 and 18. Considering it is the 100th anniversary of Sedgefield and the last year Wyndham Rewards will be sponsoring the event, I imagine it will be a special week to witness! Feel free to reach out if you are interested in tickets.

Dear Treyburn Members,

As summer settles in, so have the high temperatures and humidity that come with it Fortunately, the DryJect process performed on our putting greens during the second week of June was a tremendous success. The greens have recovered beautifully, and this important agronomic practice allows us to incorporate much-needed sand into the soil profile while improving drainage and overall turf health.

I would like to sincerely thank the membership for your patience, understanding, and support throughout the recent drought conditions Implementing cart path only restrictions for a portion of June was not a decision we took lightly, but it proved extremely beneficial. Limiting cart traffic allowed the high-wear areas around fairway entrances and exits to recover and regain healthy turf coverage.

While we are not completely out of the woods yet, your cooperation has allowed Mark Snell and his team to maintain exceptional course conditions as we move into the heart of the summer season Their dedication and attention to detail continue to play a significant role in the outstanding conditioning of the golf course

As temperatures continue to rise, you will likely notice our agronomy team hand-watering greens throughout the day This practice helps protect the turf from heat stress and ensures consistent playing conditions If you encounter staff members watering a green during your round, we kindly ask for your patience while they complete their work This small courtesy helps the team stay on schedule and maintain the high-quality conditions our membership expects and enjoys

We are also excited to announce the addition of a new golf cart path providing direct access to the pool entrance and the High Tide Cabana Bar. Golfers can now conveniently utilize High Tide as a turn-stop after completing the front nine. To place an order, simply open the McConnell Golf App, tap the "+" icon, select "Order Food," and choose "Treyburn High Tide Cabana Bar " We recommend placing your order while playing Hole #7 so it will be ready for pickup at the turn Upon arriving at the pool entrance after Hole #9, park your cart and look for the designated "Pick-Up Here" sign We hope this new amenity enhances your experience and provides a convenient way to enjoy food and refreshments during your round

May and June were packed with outstanding member golf events, and it was great to see so many members enjoying the competition and camaraderie that make Treyburn such a special place. Our recent events included the Ladies' Member-Member, Men's Two-Day Spring Invitational, Men's and Super Senior Club Championships, and the Men's Member-Member Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make these events such a success Congratulations to all of our champions and flight winners

Summer also means Junior Golf Camp season at Treyburn. Our first session was a tremendous success, with 24 enthusiastic juniors enjoying four days filled with golf instruction, games, snacks, and pool time. Junior Camp remains one of our favorite programs of the year because it introduces young golfers to the game while creating opportunities for friendships and lasting summer memories.

If your junior golfer missed the June session, there is still another opportunity to participate Our next Junior Golf Camp will be held July 21–24 from 9:00 a m to 12:00 p m , with an optional extended session available until 3:00 p m We would love to have them join us

Looking ahead, the Professional Golf Staff is excited for a busy summer schedule with events designed for golfers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're competing in a championship, enjoying a couples event, or introducing a family member to the game, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved throughout the season.

As part of Sedgefield Country Club’s 100th anniversary celebration, the Sedgefield Centennial video series looks back on the milestones, stories, and people that have shaped the club into one of North Carolina’s most historic golf venues

The series continues with its second installment, an exclusive interview featuring retired ACC Commissioner and Sedgefield member John Swofford. In the conversation, Swofford reflects on the ACC’s founding at the Sedgefield Inn and the enduring connection between the conference and the club

FORMER MCCONNELL GOLF SCHOLAR

CALEB SURRATT EARNS SPOT IN FIRST U.S. OPEN

Former McConnell Golf scholar Caleb Surratt will make his major championship debut at the 2026 U S Open at Shinnecock Hills Surratt secured his spot in golf’s national championship through final qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, where he posted rounds of 70 and 69 before prevailing in a six-man playoff for the final berth He birdied the first playoff hole to punch his ticket to one of the game’s biggest stages.

Many McConnell Golf members have followed Surratt’s journey for years. A standout junior golfer from Charlotte with ties to Providence Country Club, he went on to star at the University of Tennessee, earning first-team All-America honors and winning the SEC individual championship He turned professional in 2024 and now competes for Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on LIV Golf

Surratt’s U S Open appearance marks another milestone in a career filled with accomplishments, but for those who watched him develop as a young player through the McConnell Golf scholarship program, it is especially rewarding to see him competing alongside the best players in the world. A PERFECT REGULAR SEASON

The Treyburn Tide wrapped up another incredible summer with an undefeated 5-0 regular season, finishing strong at our final home meet before heading to the DSSL Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center to finish another undefeated season. Throughout the summer, our swimmers showcased determination, sportsmanship, and steady improvement in every event We couldn't be more proud of this outstanding group of athletes!

Bring your favorite Minecraft adventures to life with our enthusiastic Play-Well instructors. In a Minecraft world powered by LEGO® resources, we will build shelters to keep out Creepers, craft mystical items that only true masters can wield, and perfect our crossbow skills to stop the Wither from taking over! If you can imagine it, we can build it.

The world is being taken over by SLIME! During this ooey-gooey week, campers will dive into the science and fun of slime-making while creating a new slime each day, from cloud and galaxy slime to stretchy, drippy, and glitter-filled creations. Kids will explore textures, colors, and creative mix-ins while learning simple STEM concepts along the way.
