CLUB UPDATE
I make it a tradition every year to write out a “Goals for the Year” list designed to help me improve both personally and professionally I don’t consider these goals to be resolutions, but I hold myself accountable throughout the year so that I can look back and see the progress I have made. This list becomes my roadmap for the year, keeping me on track and focused on my longterm goals and continued growth

That same philosophy is guiding our approach here at Sedgefield Country Club in 2026. Across the Club, we are committed to improving our facilities, the quality of service and hospitality that we offer, and most importantly, we are strengthening our team In just the first couple months of the year, we’ve had a couple big items on our list that I’m proud to have checked off for our team
One of our key priorities for 2026 was to find an Executive Chef to help us continue to improve our culinary program As you all know, Executive Sous Chef Joaquin Campos has done an outstanding job serving as our Interim Executive Chef over the last several months. As I watched him continue to grow as a strong leader, rise to each challenge, and earn the trust and respect of his team, it became clear that the right person for the role was already here I’m proud to share that we have dropped the “Interim” designation, and Chef Joaquin is now our permanent Executive Chef
In his first couple months officially in this role, Chef Joaquin is building a talented team around him in the kitchen, and we are excited to see how his leadership continues to enhance our menus, events, and overall dining experience. Please join me in congratulating Chef Joaquin when you see him around the Club
Another major goal for 2026 was to renovate the interior of the Sam Snead Cottage. Our Facilities Team, led by Will Harper and Cody Sayers, began this project toward the end of 2025, and the final result is something we are incredibly proud of The Cottage holds a special place in Sedgefield’s history, and we wanted to ensure the improvements honored that legacy while enhancing the experience for our members and their guests
The Cottage now features all new flooring and furnishings, a fully renovated shower, a new gas fireplace, new kitchen appliances, and many other upgrades that will make your overnight stay more comfortable and enjoyable We would love to host you or your visiting guests in the Cottage this year Please contact Angela Ayers at the Clubhouse for booking information

Enhancing the quality of our Club Events is also a huge goal of ours this year. While no event is ever perfect, our commitment is to continually raise the standard and create memorable experiences for our members Thanks to the feedback many of you provided in our club events survey, we have a clearer understanding of the types of events our members value most
So far this year, we have hosted several memorable events for our members Austin Pendergraft and Chef Joaquin recently hosted a Cook Competition, where Sedgefield competed against chefs from other McConnell Golf properties, including former Sedgefield Executive Chef, James “JP” Patterson. Chef Joaquin and his team took home the win in the competition, and it was really a night of fun and celebration for everyone.
We recently hosted our Daddy-Daughter Dance, where we saw the daughters beat the dads in a dance-off to “Party in the USA” We also hosted a wonderful Valentine’s Day Dinner that was filled with champagne and live music Love and connection have been strong themes to start this year, and we plan to build on that momentum. Be sure to keep an eye on our Club Events Calendar for all of our upcoming events.
As we continue to make improvements throughout the Club, we are working closely with our team members daily to ensure we’re creating a culture dedicated to several grounding principles. Trust, Respect, Empathy, Accountability, Pride, and Innovation will all be at the forefront of the decisions we make each day for our members and for each other Upholding these principles as a staff is extremely important to our success, and we hope you will join us in creating an environment at the Club that embraces these values each day
This year is well on its way to being a memorable one for Sedgefield as we celebrate our Centennial We are committed to supporting our members and helping them create cherished memories for generations to come
Thank you for your continued trust and support, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club this spring

Sedgefield Country Club, est 1926 One-hundred years sure seems like a long time Just think back to what day-to-day life must have been like in 1926 ? No cell phones, internet, very few vehicles, televisions, etc I sometimes think back on the innovations of the past 100 years and wonder how in the heck the next 100 years can be any better? But it will be, I just wish I knew which companies to invest in and what stock to buy!
We live in a world of immediate answers; if you have a question, there’s a very good chance you can have an answer within seconds. Of course there may be many varying answers out there, and who knows how to qualify what’s actually true? With the advancement of AI and deep-fake videos, I rarely trust anything I see online from an unfamiliar source these days
The great thing about the private club industry, although there are ways we can use tech and AI behind the scenes to
manage some of our tasks more efficiently, is the people A private club must have members to survive, and without a dedicated and friendly staff to serve those members, the club would not survive very long I hate to think of the day a robot delivers cocktails in the Red Fox (think back to The Jetsons cartoon). While the robot can be programmed to do and say anything, it will never match the warm smile from Charles Posey, for example, as he visits your tableside And while there are already cocktail making machines, I promise a drink from one of those will never be as good as what Aaron, Christina & Stephen are serving up at the bars these days
In a recent article regarding AI and the work force, it was paraphrased that “AI will likely not take your job, but someone that knows how to use it will ” I thought that was a very insightful look into the immediate future Face-to-face interaction will hopefully never go away, especially in the private club industry. Personalized service is what makes us who we are, and although the bots are tracking our search history, they are not cooking our food, cleaning our golf carts, teaching pickleball lessons, or doing much of anything else that makes a private club special
As Sedgefield enters its second century, there has truly never been a better time to introduce a prospective member at the club With our year-long centennial celebration along with our service, hospitality and premiere facilities and amenities, Sedgefield is your home away from home to spend quality time making memories that will last for generations While I cannot guarantee an AI or bot free experience over the next 100 years, I can promise the best southern hospitality and private club experience in the area
As we celebrate Sedgefield’s centennial, I am truly grateful for my fourteen years at the club thus far I have made many lifelong friendships with both members and staff, and look forward to what the next fourteen (and next one-hundred) years will bring!

SEDGEFIELD C.C. HITS THE CENTURY MARK

Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon • 20% Merlot
15% Cabernet Franc • 10% Petit Verdot
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Sedgefield Country Club and its historic Donald Ross–designed golf course in Greensboro, North Carolina This video highlights the club’s early history, from its founding in 1926 to its lasting influence on professional golf and regional sports Sedgefield hosted early editions of the Greater Greensboro Open now the Wyndham Championship featuring legends such as Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and Byron Nelson, and is the birthplace of the Atlantic Coast Conference Today, under McConnell Golf, Sedgefield continues to honor its past while building for the future. PROGRESS CONTINUES ON COURSE RENOVATION PROJECT IN BLYTHEWOOD, SOUTH CAROLINA
With work on the Black 9 now complete, the renovation project at Cobblestone Golf Club has shifted to the Garnet 9 All bunkers will be rebuilt with Capillary Concrete liners and new sand, accompanied by subtle shaping to improve drainage and minimize washouts. The project also includes the installation of new concrete cart paths, selective rerouting for improved playability, and tree removal as needed to protect the new infrastructure.
The 2019 Perry’s Blend is a beautifully crafted Bordeaux-style Napa Valley red from Juslyn Vineyards, showcasing the intensity that defines the Spring Mountain District Juslyn Vineyards was founded by Perry and Carolyn Butler in 1997 after they left the tech world to pursue their passion for winemaking Their vineyard sits high above Napa Valley, where cooler mountain temperatures help create wines with great depth and character They focus on small-lot production and hands-on care, apparent in every bottle.
Bright red cherry and black currant lead the way, layered with hints of spice and subtle oak. Silky, polished tannins give the wine a graceful structure, while its supple texture and balanced acidity carry through to a long, lingering finish The result is a wine that is both powerful and refined equally suited for savoring now or pairing with a memorable meal. To reserve, please contact your club’s food & beverage director

A NOTE FROM YOUR SEDGEFIELD SUPERINTENDENT A NOTE FROM YOUR CARDINAL SUPERINTENDENT

As we reflect on the months of January and February, we experienced an extended period of severe winter weather that significantly impacted golf course operations During this event, the course was forced to close, and the greens were covered for 29 consecutive days the longest single stretch since converting our greens to bermudagrass Our previous longest duration was 25 days
Throughout this period, we received approximately 10–12 inches of snow along with nearly 2 inches of sleet. These conditions created substantial stress on the bermudagrass turf.
At this time, the greens appear to have come through the event without visible damage, which is very encouraging However, it is still too early to determine the full impact on other areas of the golf course Based on historical patterns, we anticipate the potential for some winter injury on Holes #5 and #10, as well as in other shaded areas that typically struggle during late winter and early spring
We expect to gain a clearer understanding of these areas as soil and water temperatures begin to rise in April and May. Our team will continue to closely monitor conditions over the coming months and provide an update in our next newsletter
Let’s all hope for an early spring and improved golfing weather We look forward to seeing you around the course
Sincerely,
Chad Cromer Golf Course Superintendent

What a start we have had to 2026 As I am sure you remember, the course had to stay closed for 19 days due to being covered in snow and ice The first winter storm we received was on January 25th and the course was covered under about 2 5 inches of sleet Then the very next Saturday we received a whopping 10 inches of snow. We were finally able to open the course on February 14th for golfers and the
maintenance team was able to get back to some projects a few days before then. I know most of you are asking if I think we will see much winter kill from the cold, snow, and ice. The truth is I have no way to know until we get to spring and the grass starts to green up. Hopefully the rest of the winter has no major cold snaps and we have a warm spring
If you have been able to come out and play golf, I am sure you have seen some of the projects taking place around the course We removed 9 trees to the right of the fairway on 18 This was done to get some more sunlight on the 18th fairway and improve turf quality. We have also been working on a creek restoration project on the creek on 2 and 8. The main goal of this project is to fix the areas of the creek that have had some major erosion. In some spots the creek had moved nearly 15 feet from where it used to be I am very happy with how this project is turning out Once we finish the creek project and get aerification behind us, our goal is to then start a few drainage projects on the 15th fairway

With spring right around the corner, that means so is our first greens aerification of the year. The course will be closed on March 2nd and 3rd to allow us time to aerify, clean up, and top-dress greens. As most of you know, the March aerification is always the slowest one of the year for the greens to recover from due to the cooler weather. We have a good fertility plan in place to get the greens back to normal as soon as Mother Nature will allow
Sincerely,
Ross Jernigan Golf Course Superintendent

A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF

The weather has certainly been a defining factor as we begin 2026 It did not take long for the Triad area to experience not one, but two significant winter storms. We were fortunate during the first storm to avoid any power outages; however, the second storm brought over 10 inches of snow to much of the region. While business in the golf shop has been slower as a result, this has provided an opportunity for our team to complete much of our preseason preparation as we approach the upcoming golf season
March marks the official start of our golf season The Ladies and Senior Men’s Associations will host their Opening Breakfast next week, and we will kick off our member events with the Season Opening Tournament on March 21st, followed by the Masters Pro Member-Member on April 11th Additionally, we will begin our first of six Couples Golf events later this month.
One of the most anticipated events returning this year is our One-Day Member-Guest These events provide an excellent opportunity to entertain clients or guests for an enjoyable afternoon of golf. We will host two One-Day Member-Guest events this season, with the first scheduled for April 24th In addition, we will return to hosting one Sedgefield Cup (Men’s Member-Guest), which will take place in June. We are excited to move this event back to a summer date and look forward to showcasing the golf course during peak playing conditions
Please take a few moments to review the information included in this edition of the newsletter There are many exciting events and updates planned for March, April, and throughout the remainder of the year. We look forward to a wonderful spring season and hope you will join us for the many events ahead
Thank You, Eric Ferguson, PGA Director of Golf

TEE IT UP AT SEDGEFIELD

If you find yourself wondering how you can bring your scores down this year, and maybe one-on-one instruction feels too intimidating, we have you covered
The Tuesday Tip's & Sip's Clinic Series is back by popular demand this spring! This series will consist of 5 weeks and will cover a varying array of topics. This is designed not only for beginners who are new to the game, but also for anyone looking to sharpen their skills to lower their handicaps
Classes are independent of one another, so you do not need to commit to the entire 5 weeks if you aren't available
We will meet on Tuesdays from 4-5:15pm for class and have a short 15minute recap on the Greenside Café Patio as you enjoy a complimentary drink!
Classes will begin on March 17th and run until April 15th

Is your child new to golf or wants to learn about the game? Do they want to sharpen the skills they have already learned and get them into the game of golf?
Our Spring Junior Golf Camp is a great chance for them to do that Designed to teach a student the game of golf from the green backwards, it is a fun and rewarding way to get kids PLAYING golf. We will teach them certain drills, history and manners of the game, and fun activities for the kids to enjoy!
This 6-week class will feature 6 group instructional sessions, as well as two 9-hole Sunday playdays where your child will actually play 9-holes from their current yardage. Players will start out at 25yds from the green, progressing backwards only after they are able to shoot 36 on 9-holes We will be offering classes Wednesday's from 4:30-5:30pm starting March 18th and will end April 22nd.
Please contact Cameron Little at clittle@sedgefieldcc com if you have any questions

THE HOLE-IN-ONE CLUB
One of the most enjoyable feats in the game of golf is a Hole-in-One. Some golfers play for years and never accomplish this and some people have had numerous ONES! Those that have made numerous HIO’s can still remember every detail of EVERY hole-in-one they ever made. It is a feat so rare in a golfer’s career it deserves to be celebrated and rewarded!
We want to make certain that everyone FULLY enjoys this wonderful feat! So, we want introduce you to our Hole-In-One Club and ensure existing members understand the policies regarding the HIO Club Additionally, we have made some slight modifications to the HIO Club to make it even more profitable for the player recording the Hole-In-One, so please pay attention to the italicized sections to understand the modifications
1 Each member of the HIO club is billed $5 for each HIO recorded by a HIO Club member (Currently we have 300+ members in the HIO Club)
2 ALL HIO’s must have at least two witnesses and only one of which can be a family member
3 To win the purse from the HIO Club, you must be a member of the HIO Club before teeing off and the HIO must be made at Sedgefield or The Cardinal
4 The HIO member recording a HIO may, at his or her discretion, open bar tab using HIO club funds at the bar of their choice (at Sedgefield or Cardinal). The bar tab will not open until the celebrating member arrives in the bar they choose Previously, no limitations on the number of open bars existed Because Sedgefield has multiple bar locations we are now limiting the bar tab to the bar the member is currently celebrating in.
5 Using the HIO funds to open a bar tab is at the sole discretion of the celebrating member. The celebrating member also determines how long the bar will be open and who receives drinks Beverages applied to the tab may either be a single beer, wine offered by the glass, or a cocktail not to exceed $10. Any other selections must be approved by the celebrating member. Previously, other members accepting a drink had no limitations on selections, but we felt celebrating members were unknowingly being taken advantage of
6 The bar tab will be limited to an amount equal to half of the purse or when the member leaves/closes the tab, whichever comes first. If the celebrating member would prefer to keep the tab open, he or she will be responsible for all charges exceeding half of the purse Previously, the funds of the HIO Club could be used towards the entire bar tab This modification ensures the celebrating member will receive at least half of the purse in golf shop credit
7. The bar tab is open to all members and guests in the bar with the celebrating member, if the celebrating member approves You do not have to be a member of the HIO Club for somebody to buy you a drink, but we insist drinks bought with HIO fund are consumed in the bar with the celebrating member Previously, members were taking liberties with the celebration and just grabbing a free drink and either left the bar or continued their round. This new modification insists that members and guests finish the drink in the bar with the celebrating member Please keep in mind the whole premise behind buying drinks for a HIO is the celebration If someone is kind enough to buy you a drink in celebration, please be courteous enough to stay and celebrate with them.
In closing, we hope everyone will join this celebrated and unique club If you are not currently a member of the HIO club and would like to join or if you are unsure that you are already signed up and have any questions regarding the HIO Club, please contact Eric Ferguson at eferguson@sedgefieldcc.com or Chris Terry at cterry@cardinalgolf.com.

TEE IT UP AT THE CARDINAL
A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF GOLF
NEW YEAR 2026
As we look toward the start of the upcoming season, we have so much to be thankful for after an incredible 2025 at the club Our Cardinal family grew by more than 70 memberships in 2025, helping the club achieve its most successful year to date. We welcomed members young and old those continuing their golf journey and others beginning their lifelong love of the game here at the Cardinal
We saw activity around the club increase, with record participation across all tournaments The lesson program was strong, with tremendous support for Nic and his Operation 36 program for juniors and women, as well as continued support for Sarah in the kitchen. We have a lot to be thankful for, but we always want to press forward and make the experience at the Cardinal memorable for each and every member and their guests.
This year, we are excited to announce the addition of Brenna Young as our new Bar Manager. Brenna brings a wealth of hospitality experience to the club and has already made a significant impact on the atmosphere in the Tavern She is planning new and exciting weekly drink features and will also be leading several new dining events throughout the summer. We will have live music in conjunction with these events, so please be on the lookout for them on the calendar
Each year, McConnell Golf invests back into the club through capital improvements Over the past two years, we have seen new furniture arrive on the patio, a new HVAC unit installed in the ballroom, and extensive tree work on the golf course. This year, we expect additional investments, including more tree work on the right side of #18, new vanities in the restrooms, and several covered areas on the patio to allow for more year-round use. There are also a few behind-the-scenes projects underway that may not be visible to everyone but will help set us up well for the future
As mentioned earlier, we have experienced tremendous membership growth, and with that growth has come a significant increase in junior players. To support this, we are expanding playing opportunities for them Beginning in March, we will launch our Junior League on Sunday afternoons This league will provide a great opportunity for juniors to play together, meet new friends, and develop their games. Another important aspect of the league is the opportunity for older juniors to serve as mentors to younger players, providing valuable leadership The league will incorporate different formats each week, members will be encouraged to invite friends to participate, and prizes will be awarded weekly Our team is truly excited to launch this league and see how many juniors choose to participate
For those looking forward to the start of the golf season, our first official event of 2026 will be the Season Opening Event on Saturday, April 4 After all the cold weather we’ve experienced, it is encouraging to know we are only four weeks away from the start of our golf calendar
Please save the date for the following events:
• Men’s League begins Wednesday, April 15
• The Gilsen (Men’s Member/Member) – May 29–31
• The Dye Cup (Men’s Member/Guest) – August 20–22
• Lady Bird Invitational – September 24 & 25
To better promote events, tournaments, club fittings, and more, we will be utilizing the “Articles” section of the McConnell Golf App. This section is located at the bottom of the home page As registration dates open, you will see new articles appear there Click on the links for registration pages, additional details, and important dates. We believe this will provide another effective way to keep you informed about upcoming happenings at the Cardinal
Thank you again for your continued support of the Cardinal and its growth over the past few years We are beyond excited to get this year’s golf calendar underway and to see everyone back around the club. As always, if you need anything from our team, please do not hesitate to ask. We look forward to seeing you soon at the Cardinal

FITNESS NEWS
A NOTE FROM YOUR DIRECTOR OF FITNESS
When thinking about Sedgefield’s fitness center, do you see it as a place for wellness or just a place to lift weights and do cardio?
In fitness, recovery is the physiological process of returning the body to a state of balance after the stress of a workout. It is during this time – not the workout – that muscles actually repair, grow, and become stronger. Recovery methods and classes are the essential “missing piece” to a complete fitness routine
Stretching, saunas, yoga, and massage are excellent, scientifically supported methods of accelerating post-workout recovery They enhance muscle repair, reduce soreness, increase blood circulation, and alleviate mental stress Combining the methods – such as gentle stretching after a sauna – provides an effective approach to reducing injury risk and promoting overall physical health.
Key Benefits for Recovery:
Stretching: Improves flexibility and reduces muscle tightness, which helps in a quicker recovery process Perfect for active rest days or as a cooldown after high-intensity training.
Sauna: The heat increases blood flow, reducing muscle stiffness, soreness, and swelling It also helps in relaxing muscles and can enhance cardiovascular health.
Yoga: A mindful blend of physical postures and breathwork designed to improve circulation and accelerate muscle healing.
Massage: Specifically reduces muscle tension and assists in the removal of metabolic waste products like lactic acid.
Don’t just train – recover!
Your body repairs and rebuilds muscle in between sessions. Come in and take advantage of our recovery offerings to speed up that process!
Yoga - Relax your body and mind
Mobility - Improve your range of motion.
♀ Stretch - Target specific muscles to reduce soreness

I look forward to seeing you at the fitness center.
