Finishing at 1-over (214), the team claimed the title in a sudden-death playoff on the first extra hole at Solina Golf Club.

The Trescott Championship, named after the former long-time SCGA Secretary George C Trescott, is a unique Club Championship where three amateur members from a club combine their aggregate score from each hole to compete for the Trescott Cup During the course of play, a Pro-Am is also conducted with the three amateurs and their Club Professional using the best two gross balls per hole

INSIDE MCCONNELL GOLF

MCCONNELL GOLF COURSES EARN STRONG GAINS IN 2026 N.C. GOLF PANEL RANKINGS

McConnell Golf once again placed all of its North Carolina private clubs among the state’s Top 100 courses, highlighted by four clubs earning Top 25 rankings in the North Carolina Golf Panel’s 30th annual statewide rankings, published in the April issue of Business North Carolina magazine.

Leading the portfolio is Greensboro’s Sedgefield Country Club, home of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship, ranked No 7 in North Carolina Old North State Club in New London followed at No 11, while Raleigh Country Club climbed to No 15 Durham’s Treyburn Country Club made one of the year’s biggest moves, jumping four spots into the Top 25 at No 25 In total, 11 McConnell Golf courses earned Top 100 recognition statewide, marking a strong year of upward momentum across the company’s North Carolina portfolio

Several Triangle-area clubs posted notable improvements The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh made a significant leap, rising to No 75 from No. 94 last year. Treyburn’s move into the Top 25 further strengthened the region’s standing among the state’s premier courses. Eastern North Carolina also saw major gains, as Wilson Country Club surged into the Top 100 at No. 84 after being unranked last year one of the largest upward moves in this year’s rankings.

Other McConnell Golf properties earning Top 100 honors include:

Country Club of Asheville, ranked No 52, up two spots year-over-year

The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, ranked No 54, continuing its steady upward trend

Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington, improving to No 57

Providence Country Club in Charlotte, ranked No 85

Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, rounding out the list at No 100

McConnell Golf remains the only individual golf course owner in the world to steward four Donald Ross-designed courses, including Sedgefield Country Club and Raleigh Country Club, both of which continue to rank among North Carolina’s elite layouts. The 2026 North Carolina Golf Panel rankings, based on playability, design, conditioning and experience, highlight another strong year driven by continued investment in courses, facilities and member experience

Summer has arrived early this year with an unexpected hot spell, and we’re hopeful it sets the stage for plenty of beautiful, sunny days throughout May and June The golf course has come out of winter in outstanding condition, and the PGA agronomy team noted it was the best spring site visit they’ve had to date Kudos to Superintendent Billy Cole and his team for their hard work and dedication in keeping the course in such exceptional shape

As May begins, we’re excited to kick off tournament season with the Historic Donald Ross Classic Men’s Member-Member Tournament, taking place May 1–3. Later in the month, we’ll host the UNC Health Championship from May 28–31. This marks our fourth year hosting this Korn Ferry Tour event, and we look forward to welcoming an incredible field of players to compete on our iconic Donald Ross layout. Thank you for your continued support of the tournament. We look forward to seeing many of you during the week whether volunteering, hosting players, or simply enjoying some outstanding golf.

The summer months will also bring our popular league play, with Ladies Wine & Dine on Tuesday evenings and Men’s League kicking off on Thursday, May 7 These weekly events are a great opportunity to socialize, enjoy the course in the evenings, and add a little friendly competition The golf shop is fully stocked with an excellent selection of new apparel from premier vendor partners, including Peter Millar, Johnnie-O, Holderness & Bourne, and FootJoy We also have the latest equipment from Titleist, TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping, and Mizuno If you’re considering new clubs or an upgrade, we encourage you to schedule a TrackMan club fitting with one of our professional staff to get fully dialed in I am very excited about everything ahead at Raleigh Country Club and look forward to seeing you on the course If I can assist you in any way, please don’t hesitate to reach out

COOKIES OF THE MONTH

MAY: PISTACHIO COOKIES

“I love Pistachio as much as I love cookies. The pistachio is the well-traveled, smart & cool nut that sits in the back of the class, quiet and barely noticed He doesn't require too much attention like the fancy Almond He doesn't have the thick Southern accent like the pecan, nor is he hard to crack and most desirable by squirrels like the walnut. The pistachio is calm and collected in all scenarios, naturally green, and widely known to have a variety of health benefits, such as healthy fats, fiber, and protein. Unlike all the other nuts in the class, he also comes with a reputation of paramount street cred ”
