Dear Members,
Before we share what’s happening at the Club, I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for the warmest welcome imaginable After my first 30 days, everything I heard about Raleigh Country Club makes perfect sense The quality of our membership and amenities rivals that of any club I have visited throughout my career I look forward to serving as your Director of Golf for many years to come and hope we can exceed your expectations every time you visit the Club.
During my first week at the Club, we hosted the Donald Ross Classic, our annual Men’s MemberMember Tournament Head Golf Professional Dan Swomley and the golf staff, along with our Food & Beverage team, put on an incredible event Graham McLamb and Robert Bergdolt captured the overall championship after surviving two chip-offs on No 9 and 10 The chip-off on No 9 was one for the record books, with seven teams competing. One after another, teams played from just short of the frontright bunker to a back-right pin location. Five teams chipped to within four feet of the hole. Well done, gentlemen! It was amazing to watch.
Shortly thereafter, we hosted the UNC Health Championship for the fourth consecutive year Despite near-drought conditions, the course remained in outstanding condition thanks to the incredible efforts of Billy Cole and his team Their hard work did not go unnoticed and was instrumental to the tournament’s success. Thank you, Billy!

Congratulations to this year’s champion, Álvaro Ortiz While playing in the Wednesday Pro-Am with RCC members Bill Baker, John Day, and Rob Brady, Álvaro likely played his worst nine holes of the year Whatever he figured out on the range that evening certainly worked After staying near the top of the leaderboard through the first three rounds, he climbed into the lead on Sunday, only to be overtaken by Ross Steelman late in the day Álvaro responded by birdieing the final two holes to force a playoff, then birdied the first playoff hole to secure his first Korn Ferry Tour victory.
In closing, the entire Golf Shop staff would like to thank you for your support, patience, and understanding during the transition between the departure of our former Director of Golf, Adam McLaughlin, and my arrival We look forward to a busy summer and encourage you to let us know how we can make your time at Raleigh Country Club as enjoyable as possible
Rocky Brooks, PGA Director of Golf

As part of Sedgefield Country Club’s 100th anniversary celebration, the Sedgefield Centennial video series looks back on the milestones, stories, and people that have shaped the club into one of North Carolina’s most historic golf venues

The series continues with its second installment, an exclusive interview featuring retired ACC Commissioner and Sedgefield member John Swofford. In the conversation, Swofford reflects on the ACC’s founding at the Sedgefield Inn and the enduring connection between the conference and the club
The third installment turns to one of Sedgefield’s most remarkable chapters when the club’s own head golf professional, Tony Manero, stunned the golf world by capturing the 1936 U S Open title on one of the sport’s biggest stages
Dive into the rich history at Sedgefield and view the entire series at YouTube com/@McConnellGolf
Former McConnell Golf scholar Caleb Surratt will make his major championship debut at the 2026 U S Open at Shinnecock Hills Surratt secured his spot in golf’s national championship through final qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, where he posted rounds of 70 and 69 before prevailing in a six-man playoff for the final berth He birdied the first playoff hole to punch his ticket to one of the game’s biggest stages.
Many McConnell Golf members have followed Surratt’s journey for years. A standout junior golfer from Charlotte with ties to Providence Country Club, he went on to star at the University of Tennessee, earning first-team All-America honors and winning the SEC individual championship He turned professional in 2024 and now competes for Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on LIV Golf
Surratt’s U S Open appearance marks another milestone in a career filled with accomplishments, but for those who watched him develop as a young player through the McConnell Golf scholarship program, it is especially rewarding to see him competing alongside the best players in the world. McConnell Golf congratulates Caleb on reaching his first U.S. Open and wishes him the best of luck at Shinnecock Hills
