MANAGER'S MESSAGE

PROVIDENCE Providence Members, Thank you all for a great summer. The pool stayed busy, and the West Pavilion always had great activity. A big congratulations to Hope for all her hard work and dedication to building a team who made the pool season a big success. It was fun to see Soccer watch parties, karaoke, trivia night, and live music on Friday or Saturday evenings. We’ll be looking forward to building upon this success in 2027. Chef John in the kitchen and Monica in the restaurant have teamed up to offer some awesome specials as well as our restaurant week that had tremendous success thanks to all of you who enjoyed the menus. Four straight nights of 50 + reservations was a lot of fun and something we hope to continue seeing in Table 16 and Preston’s. Look for more fun offerings as we head into the fall. Wine dinners will continue to be on the schedule, including Orin Swift on Wednesday, October 14. Details to follow, but this is sure to be a great chance to stock your wine fridge before the holiday season. Now is a perfect time to begin planning for the rest of the year. GOLF FORE ALL PROVIDENCE 1st DRONE SHOW

FROM THE LINKS And just like that the summer has turned into autumn, the absolute best time of year to tee it up. The rough is quite thick, the greens are firm, fast, and fun, and before you know it the leaf rule will be in full effect. September will play host to The Cates Invitational, our Member-Guest Championship, and in October we’ll have members enjoying the Senior Club Championship and Fall Member-Member. Still a fun-filled calendar to round out another great year of competition at the Club. Later this month during The Cates Invitational, we’ll fly our second drone show of the year. This time with 400 lit drones producing an incredible show sure to capture everyone’s attention. Be on the lookout for details on attending the Member-Guest party! Congratulations to Craig Black on a tremendously successful summer camp year. Craig has done a fantastic job leading our Junior Golf program which was number 1 in the world for Operation 36 usage. We have a full fall slate of semesters for those who would like to get involved in Op36 and begin playing the game, working to improve, or just participate in a program that is sure to be fun, educational, and provide a new perspective on the game of golf. GOLF TIP Great putting cures all. Seldom do we see members actually practice rolling the rock! The quickest way to lower your scores is making more putts! Stop by the Golf Shop this month to pick up a sheet full of great drills you can use to hole more putts. Operation 36 was founded on starting close to the hole and working backward as you try to shoot 36 from each yardage starting at 50 yards out. The premise behind this thought is to learn how to score from shorter yardages before moving back to a set of tees all your friends are playing. Teeing off from tees that are too long for you or aren’t the right set of markers because of your ability, is debilitating to your golf game. Make it fun, shoot par (36) from 50 yards, move back to 100, graduate to 200, etc. The quickest way to shoot or break par is to make more putts. Personally, I’ve done this from 50 yards using just a putter…. I shot 28 using just a putter from 50 yards out!!! It’s ok to bust out the putter and get the ball rolling as soon as you can. I don’t recommend using a putter from 50 yards out all the time (or at all really), but it is ok to putt from distances you feel comfortable getting the ball close to the hole or even making it. We look forward to seeing more of you work on your putting with drills we think can greatly help your game.

GREENS AND GROUNDS

Dear Providence Country Club Members, I am pleased to announce that Ross Jernigan has been named the new superintendent at Providence Country Club. Ross is a longtime and valued member of the McConnell Golf family, bringing more than a decade of experience within our organization to his new role at Providence. Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership, a strong knowledge of agronomy and an unwavering commitment to providing outstanding playing conditions for our members. He began his career working on golf courses while attending turf school at Primland Resort in Virginia and later at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. After completing college, Ross continued to build his experience at Oak Hill Country Club, where he served as an Assistant Superintendent in Training. Wanting to return home to the Raleigh area, Ross joined The Hasentree Club, where he spent two years as an Assistant Superintendent. In 2013, Ross became part of the McConnell Golf family when he joined the team at The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation. Ross quickly proved to be a tremendous asset to Wakefield through his knowledge, work ethic and leadership. When the opportunity arose to lead the agronomy team at The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, Ross stepped into the superintendent role and began what has been an outstanding tenure. During his time at The Cardinal, Ross has led his team in producing exceptional course conditions on a daily basis. The improvements made to the property under his leadership have been significant and will provide better playability and enjoyment for members for many years to come. His attention to detail, commitment to his staff and dedication to the membership have earned him the respect of his colleagues and made a lasting impact at The Cardinal. Ross and his wife of 15 years, Ruth, have two young sons, Brooks and Davis. We are excited to welcome the entire Jernigan family to Providence Country Club and hope the membership will make them feel at home as they become part of the Charlotte community. Outside of his career in golf course management, Ross is an avid runner. He has completed four marathons, along with numerous shorterdistance races. His passion for running is another reflection of the dedication and commitment that he brings to everything he does. While I am sad to see Ross leave The Cardinal, I am excited to see him take this next step in his career with McConnell Golf. I have great confidence in Ross and know that his leadership, experience and commitment to excellence will serve Providence Country Club and its membership well for many years to come. Please join me in congratulating Ross on his new position and welcoming Ross, Ruth, Brooks and Davis to Providence Country Club. We are excited about this next chapter and look forward to the continued improvement and success of the golf course under his leadership. Sincerely, Michael Shoun Vice President of Agronomy McConnell Golf

SEDGEFIELD COUNTRY CLUB SECURES PLACE IN PGA TOUR’S NEW CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES One of the PGA TOUR’s longest-running relationships will continue into a new era as Sedgefield Country Club remains home to Greensboro’s PGA TOUR event. Beginning in 2028, the tournament will become part of the new PGA TOUR Championship Series, with Raymond James serving as title sponsor. The event will be contested as a full-field PGA TOUR event in 2027 before transitioning to the Championship Series. Founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open, the tournament has been won by legends including Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan, with Sedgefield hosting the event more than 40 times. After a 31-year absence, the PGA TOUR returned to Sedgefield in 2008 following the restoration of its Donald Rossdesigned course, and McConnell Golf acquired the club in 2011. The announcement ensures Sedgefield will remain on one of golf’s biggest stages as the PGA TOUR enters its next era. In 2028, the Greensboro event will celebrate its 90th anniversary, bringing its remarkable history full circle.

October Cookie of the Month RED VELVET COOKIE KENRIC HUNT, EXECUTIVE CHEF AT BROOK VALLEY CC RECIPE COURTESY OF JAHNAE ROACH Jahnae Roach is going to school for art and business. She is a dishwasher, an at-home cook and baker, and also an artist (lyrically and visually). Red velvet is an amazing burst of flavor and full of color and not as appreciated as much as it should be. INGREDIENTS: 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour 1/3 cup of cocoa powder 1 teaspoon of baking soda ½ teaspoon of baking powder ½ teaspoon of salt 1 cup of butter (softened) ¾ cup of brown sugar ½ cup of white sugar 1 large egg 1 tablespoon of milk 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract 2 tablespoons of red food coloring 1 cup of white chocolate chips

THE PROVIDENCE PRESS

DIRECTIONS: Whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. Beat butter with an electric mixer for about 2 minutes until fluffy; beat in brown and white sugar until smooth. Beat egg, milk, and vanilla extract into butter mixture; beat in food coloring until uniformly colored. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture with the electric mixer at low speed until completely combined; stir in 1 cup of white chocolate chips. Cover bowl with plastic wrap; place in the refrigerator for 1 hour or overnight. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line the baking sheets with parchment paper. Roll the dough into 2 ½ -inch balls; place on prepared baking sheets and slightly flatten them. Bake in the preheated oven for about 9-11 minutes until the edges are lightly browned. Sprinkle cookies with a few additional chocolate chips; allow them to cool completely.

TY REGISTER BANQUETS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH JUNE 2026

MADDEN WECKERLE SERVER AT THE TURNHOUSE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH JULY 2026

If you’ve seen Ty Register around Providence Country Club, you’ve probably noticed his friendly smile and helpful personality. A Banquet Server who has been with PCC for a few months, Ty is already making his mark around the Club. When he’s not working, you’ll find him enjoying time at home, cheering on the Carolina Panthers, watching Dexter, or enjoying one of his favorite foods—Chipotle chicken salad! Ty also loves ice cream, root beer, house music, and spending time with his three pets, Gunner, Molly, and Birdy.

Madden has been with PCC for three months as a Hostess/Turnhouse team member, where she helps create a warm and welcoming experience for our Members. Outside of work, Madden enjoys baking and hanging out with friends. She’s also a proud dog mom to two pups, Finley and Mocha!

His favorite spot to vacation is Wilmington. He also admits to possibly sleeping through his alarm and he considers it his hidden talent. He would also like to have dinner with Kanye West; he thinks he would be an interesting person to meet. When he’s not busy at PCC, Ty enjoys partying, relaxing at home, and, of course, making time for the things he loves. We’re happy to have Ty as part of the Providence Country Club family!

When it comes to her favorites, Madden has plenty of fun picks. Her favorite restaurant is The Melting Pot, her go-to dessert is key lime pie, and she’d happily choose a cheese quesadilla for her favorite meal. She loves Aruba for a getaway and prefers going out rather than staying home. Her favorite TV show is The Summer I Turned Pretty, and her favorite song is “Homesick” by Noah Kahan. Madden is also a big Carolina Panthers fan. And here’s a fun fact you may not guess— Madden is already 6'4" and still growing! If she could have dinner with anyone, she’d choose Noah Kahan simply because she loves his music. We’re so happy to have Madden as part of the PCC family .
