MANAGER'S MESSAGE

PROVIDENCE

ProvidenceMembers,

Early February, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter. Let’s hope Phil is wrong on this one and we all get a chance to enjoy our outdoor sports sooner rather than later. The tennis courts endured snow, freezing/thawing, and many days of saturation that kept members off the clay Our golf course had greens covered for 20 days in January/February, which negated the opportunity to tee it up. As we head into the early part of spring, I’m hopeful we are blessed with the weatherthatwetypicallyenjoyinCharlottethistimeofyear.
A brief welcome to Andrea Hudson, who will run our Catering and Events department There is no doubt that any successful Club should have an enthusiastic leader in this role, and I know Andrea will grow this portion of the Club to a level we’ve never experienced. I’m really looking forward to seeing all of her ideas come to fruition, and all of our members taking part in and enjoying her events Welcome to the Providence teamAndrea!
Weston Fairchild was named Director of Tennis earlier this year, and I can tell you his excitement and enthusiasm is infectiousIn the brief time Weston has enjoyed on the courts dodging the weather, you can hear how impactful he is when teaching, coaching, or just watching a match Weston,well-deservedpromotion!
It is never too late to become a member of Providence Cork & Barrel We are pleased to share that a number of exceptional wine dinners are on the horizon, along with thoughtfully curated tastings hosted in the restaurant by Monica and her team. We encourage you to watch for upcoming emails and push notifications so you don’t miss these special events Should you have any questions or wish to enroll in PCAB, pleasedon’thesitatetoreachout Wewouldbedelightedtoassistyou Cheers
I’m extremely excited about the team we’ve put together for the 2026 year and know we’ll continue to build upon the success of our Club Thank you to all the members who make Providence a great place for our staff to come to work each day Your support during our slower times shows how much you love our Club, and we thank you for that. Please let any of our team members know how we can make your Club experiencemoreenjoyable

GREENS AND GROUNDS

GOLF COURSE UPDATE
We often wonder why we do what we do, outdoors, in the elements, battling Mother Nature, especially during the cold spells, wrestling greens covers and dancing around snow Then spring arrives, and we are reminded of the pride and joy we take in molding and improving the golf courseconditionsthroughoutthegrowingseason Theplantsarewakingup, andthetreesarebudding Colorslowlymakesitswaybackintothe naturallandscape Oneofourgoalsthisyear, muchlikelastyear, istocontinuetoenhancethelandscapingaroundtheclubandthegolfcourse
Back in February, we completed our bulk spread application This application included our wall-to-wall spring fertility, along with our preemergence herbicide for summer annual weeds such as goosegrass and crabgrass Studies have shown that earlier is better for this application because although it may seem early, the product is just sitting there until soil temperatures warm up enough for the microbial breakdown of the controlled-release fertilizer to start happening. Also, after being watered in, the herbicide has formed its barrier against weed germination in the eventofaquickorslowsoiltemperaturerise.
As the growing season starts and plant processes begin, we also implement the agronomic plans that we have been developing during the offseason These plans are similar year-to-year, but never the same as the variables that we deal with from year to year are never the same. Small adjustments to where resources are allocated can go a long way Our greens fertility program started back in February These applications make sure that there are nutrients readily available for the plant to take up once the plants wake up During the winter, the plants use and survive off of the nutrients/carbohydrates which are stored in the fall. Going forward, we will be applying foliar fertility, plant growth regulators (PGRs), and plant protectants on a weekly basis. We have switched wetting agent chemistries for this year with the goal of downward water movement and firmer surfaces, while also holding some moisture up top Also, I feel like our 2026 fungicide program will perform very well with some new chemistries and adjusted applicationtiming.Mostimportantly, letthecountdowntoaerificationbegin!

SEDGEFIELD C.C. HITS THE CENTURY MARK

Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon • 20% Merlot
15% Cabernet Franc • 10% Petit Verdot
2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Sedgefield Country Club and its historic Donald Ross–designed golf course in Greensboro, North Carolina This video highlights the club’s early history, from its founding in 1926 to its lasting influence on professional golf and regional sports Sedgefield hosted early editions of the Greater Greensboro Open now the Wyndham Championship featuring legends such as Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and Byron Nelson, and is the birthplace of the Atlantic Coast Conference Today, under McConnell Golf, Sedgefield continues to honor its past while building for the future. PROGRESS CONTINUES ON COURSE RENOVATION PROJECT IN BLYTHEWOOD, SOUTH CAROLINA
With work on the Black 9 now complete, the renovation project at Cobblestone Golf Club has shifted to the Garnet 9 All bunkers will be rebuilt with Capillary Concrete liners and new sand, accompanied by subtle shaping to improve drainage and minimize washouts. The project also includes the installation of new concrete cart paths, selective rerouting for improved playability, and tree removal as needed to protect the new infrastructure.
The 2019 Perry’s Blend is a beautifully crafted Bordeaux-style Napa Valley red from Juslyn Vineyards, showcasing the intensity that defines the Spring Mountain District Juslyn Vineyards was founded by Perry and Carolyn Butler in 1997 after they left the tech world to pursue their passion for winemaking Their vineyard sits high above Napa Valley, where cooler mountain temperatures help create wines with great depth and character They focus on small-lot production and hands-on care, apparent in every bottle.
Bright red cherry and black currant lead the way, layered with hints of spice and subtle oak. Silky, polished tannins give the wine a graceful structure, while its supple texture and balanced acidity carry through to a long, lingering finish The result is a wine that is both powerful and refined equally suited for savoring now or pairing with a memorable meal. To reserve, please contact your club’s food & beverage director
