CLUB UPDATE A MESSAGE FROM YOUR GENERAL MANAGER Happy early fall, As we strive to provide an exceptional experience for all our members, I want to highlight the importance of making reservations for club facilities and events. Reservations are essential in ensuring that we can offer the highest level of service and convenience to everyone. By making reservations: 1. Efficient Resource Management: We can allocate our facilities, staff, and other resources more effectively, ensuring availability and maintaining our high standards. This is also very helpful for holiday events and concert evenings. Chef Kris orders food based on our reservations and sometimes we have to set a maximum number of participants so we don’t run out of food. We have seen a large number of reservations come in the day prior to the event. Making a reservation several weeks out helps us prepare all facets of the operation. 2. Enhanced Member Experience: With reservations, we can reduce wait times, prevent overbooking, and provide a more personalized experience, contributing to your overall enjoyment. 3. Operational Excellence: Advanced planning allows us to prepare adequately for your visit, ensuring that everything is in place for a seamless and enjoyable experience.

David M. Wilson General Manager

We kindly ask all members to make reservations for dining, golf, tennis, and other club activities whenever possible. This small step greatly aids us in maintaining the quality and exclusivity that you have come to expect from our club. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Club.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR CATERING & EVENTS MANAGER As summer comes to a close, it's hard to believe we're already looking ahead to one of the most beautiful seasons at Old North State Club. Fall is always a special time around the Club, and our team is excited to bring you another season filled with memorable events, delicious food, and time spent with family and friends. September is also a special month for me, as I'll be celebrating my one-year anniversary at Old North State Club! I want to sincerely thank all of our members for the warm welcome and support you've shown me—especially as I've stepped into my new role as Catering & Events Director. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of you, and I truly appreciate how welcoming everyone has been! One event I'm especially excited about is our Old North State Women's Health Summit on Sunday, October 18th, from 12:00–3:00 PM. This event is about so much more than breast cancer awareness —it's an opportunity to come together for meaningful conversations about women's health, wellness, and longevity. Guests will enjoy a brunch buffet, mimosas, music, and an inspiring panel of healthcare professionals discussing topics such as hormone health, breast health, sleep, exercise, healthy aging, and more. I'm honored to be hosting and emceeing this special event alongside Carolyn Campo, and I hope you'll join us for an afternoon of learning, connection, and community. Proceeds will benefit Carolina Breast Friends and their virtual education program. As we begin planning for the holiday season, I'd also love to hear from you! If there's an event you'd like to see at the Club or a tradition you'd love to bring back, please don't hesitate to share your ideas. Your feedback helps us create experiences that are meaningful and catered for our membership.

Sarah Sifford Catering & Events Director

I look forward to celebrating another wonderful season with all of you here at Old North State Club!

CLUB UPDATE A MESSAGE FROM YOUR COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR It’s hard to believe that we’re heading into fall already! As summer winds down, I’m looking forward to my favorite time of year here at the club—when the weather turns cooler, and the warmth of our community shines through. I’m excited to capture the memories and connections that will be made throughout the fall season. So, if you see me around the club with a camera in hand, don’t be afraid to grab a friend or loved one and strike a pose for a quick photo! A few exciting changes are also coming as we head into the new season. We’re working on getting online reservations set up for dinner service, and you may start to notice more digital signage and event information throughout the clubhouse as we continue to enhance how we share what’s happening around the club. I want to thank all of you for being so supportive during my transition into the role of Communications Coordinator. I’ve truly appreciated all of the warm welcomes and encouragement, and I look forward to continuing to get to know our members. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions, comments, or feedback—I’d love to hear from you! Finally, I want to give a special shoutout to all of our staff here at ONSC. They play such a huge role in making this club the fun, welcoming, and special place that it is. We’re lucky to have such a wonderful team behind the scenes and on the floor every day.

Savannah Aldridge Communications Coordinator

Here’s to a great fall season—I can’t wait to see what’s in store!

FROM THE KITCHEN A MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXECUTIVE CHEF As my one-year anniversary at ONSC approaches, I really want to give my staff a shout-out. From Member-Guest through the 4th of July, these employees have really stepped up. We have BK, Nichelle, Anthony, Nils, Jason, and Kevon. I also want to congratulate Kevon on being chosen as Employee of the Quarter. It is well deserved! We have a lot of great events coming up, and I hope to see you there. Be on the lookout for new menus rolling out in October. We will also be offering game-day to-go items, including wings and sliders, on Saturdays and Sundays through the end of football season. Thank you for all the support you have given me and the team!

Kevon Jefferson Line Cook

Sarah Sifford | Catering & Events Director catering@oldnorthstateclub.com

My name is Kevon Jefferson. I am 26 years old, and I’m a chef at the club. I have been here for about four years total. I also have a 3-yearold daughter, and it has been quite a journey being a father. I really enjoy being a chef at the club. I’ve learned a lot during my time here and have met some great coworkers and members. I’ve always enjoyed cooking, and it is my dream to eventually have my own restaurant in my hometown of Albemarle. I have learned a lot from the chefs I’ve had the opportunity to work with at Old North State, including Chef Kris, Chef Isaac, and Chef Ron. It has been a tremendous experience being here, and I’m grateful for everything I’ve learned along the way. Honestly, I would love to continue growing within the company and eventually become a Sous Chef and, one day, an Executive Chef. I’m going to keep learning and developing as a chef to reach those goals. I truly appreciate the people around me for recognizing my hard work and dedication and for choosing me as Employee of the Quarter. It is a great honor, and I’m very grateful. Again, I want to thank everyone very much!

SEDGEFIELD COUNTRY CLUB SECURES PLACE IN PGA TOUR’S NEW CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES One of the PGA TOUR’s longest-running relationships will continue into a new era as Sedgefield Country Club remains home to Greensboro’s PGA TOUR event. Beginning in 2028, the tournament will become part of the new PGA TOUR Championship Series, with Raymond James serving as title sponsor. The event will be contested as a full-field PGA TOUR event in 2027 before transitioning to the Championship Series. Founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open, the tournament has been won by legends including Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan, with Sedgefield hosting the event more than 40 times. After a 31-year absence, the PGA TOUR returned to Sedgefield in 2008 following the restoration of its Donald Rossdesigned course, and McConnell Golf acquired the club in 2011. The announcement ensures Sedgefield will remain on one of golf’s biggest stages as the PGA TOUR enters its next era. In 2028, the Greensboro event will celebrate its 90th anniversary, bringing its remarkable history full circle.

TEE IT UP

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Finally, we are entering the best part of the golf season in Central North Carolina. The transition from triple-digit “real feel” temperatures to crisp mornings, moderate afternoon temperatures, and beautiful fall foliage is finally here. While we have cooler temperatures in the spring, it’s not the same as the fall. The Bermuda has been actively growing all summer and is still thick and green, as opposed to the spring Bermuda, which can be sparse and off-color. So, get away from the screens and touch some grass!

TENNIS OPEN PLAY DAYS CHRIS’ TENNIS TIDBIT Using Pickleball To Improve Your Tennis Net Game I’ve probably already lost a percentage of tennis “purists” just on the title alone. But stick with me for a moment as we navigate through some net game basics and transpose them into more modern techniques.

Men’s Doubles: Monday and Wednesday @ 6:00pm Ladies’ Doubles: Fridays @ 9:00am Mixed Open Play Saturdays @ 9:00am Subject to change due to weather

Let me preface this with the fact that I will always prefer club level players to use the more traditional “cross step, plant, hit” method of volleying when time allows. However, if you can quicken those steps and still hit a court penetrating volley, it may become an advantage. The Footwork: The pre-shot footwork doesn’t change. You still need to split step as your opponent is about to make contact with their ball. This gets you on balance and ready for whatever shot comes your way. Rather than doing a full cross step, you will almost use the same mechanics as a volley at the kitchen in pickleball. Solid, low base, with lots of power built in your legs and midsection. No major step forward as the ball approaches. Executing the Shot: Using that steady base, you will promote your bodyweight forward toward the ball to implement similar power levels as you would with taking a traditional step. Your hands must be out in front to take the ball early and wrists must be pronated to create a form of a lag/drag to create power. Shoulder turn is now more important than ever as well. The 70/30 Rule: Even though most of us are more comfortable with forehands, this approach lends to much more comfortable backhand volley and using the backhand side for body shot volleys, equating to around 70% of your total volleys.

RECREATIONAL NEWS DOUG’S PICKLEBALL POINTER

HANDY RACKET SPORTS INFORMATION

D-E-F-E-N-S-E !!! As with many sports, great defenses can neutralize great offenses. Most of us love to whack and attack! Too often we are trying to attack from poor positions or on low balls we should be resetting (softening).

PRIVATE LESSONS

The reset is when you soften a hard-hit ball at you in the transition area and try to make the attacker hit the next ball off the bounce or from below the top of the net. This allows the "resetter" (AND partner) to move forward to a more natural position at the NVZ line and avoid being in a more vulnerable position. It can frustrate the attackers and lead them to unforced errors. This vital skill is one of the least practiced by recreational players. It requires a wider stance, lower sitting position and hands are lower & ready in front of the body. A very compact paddle motion, simply deflecting or “catching” the ball with an open paddle to deflect the ball over the net. This shot should be on every players’ practice and warm-up routines! It is one of the most common shots practiced in the Wednesday morning SHOT OF THE WEEK clinic. Come join us!

FRANKIE’S FITNESS FACTS Stronger Together: The Benefits of Group Fitness at the Club Group fitness classes offer much more than a structured workout; they provide an opportunity to improve physical health while becoming part of a welcoming community. Whether it’s strength training, yoga, cycling, or a high-energy conditioning class, exercising alongside others can create motivation and accountability. The energy of a group can make workouts more enjoyable and encourage members to challenge themselves, stay consistent, and continue making progress toward their personal fitness goals. One of the greatest benefits of group fitness is the variety it brings to a wellness routine. Different classes allow members to work on strength, cardiovascular fitness, balance, mobility, flexibility, and endurance in a positive but challenging environment. Having a scheduled class also eliminates some of the guesswork that can come with exercising independently. Members can simply show up, follow the instructor’s guidance, and know they are getting a purposeful and effective workout. Beyond the physical benefits, group fitness creates natural opportunities for socialization. Classes bring together members who may not otherwise have a reason to interact, allowing friendships and connections to develop. The shared experience of working hard, encouraging one another, and celebrating progress creates a sense of camaraderie. Over time, familiar faces become friends, and attending a fitness class can become just as much a social highlight as it is a workout. This social component is especially valuable in a country club environment. A club is at its best when members feel connected, not only to the facilities and amenities, but also to one another. Group fitness can serve as a bridge between different areas of the club, bringing together members who may enjoy racket sports, golf, dining, swimming, or other activities. It creates another avenue for members to meet people, build relationships, and feel more engaged in the overall club community.

Ultimately, group fitness is about more than getting stronger or improving cardiovascular health—it’s about creating a healthier and more connected lifestyle. When members have opportunities to exercise, socialize, laugh, encourage one another, and build relationships in the same place, everyone benefits. Group fitness helps make the club not just a place where members come to work out, but a place where they belong. Sign up or drop by for a class this week and see what you’re missing!
