Spring is right around the corner, and I couldn’t be more ready! From longer days and cookouts to drinks on the patio, gardening, and the smell of fresh-cut grass, to spring flowers in bloom and the sound of birds singing it might just be my favorite time of year!
Over the past two months, January and February have been busy on the membership side We were excited to welcome 15 new families (not a typo!) to the Holston Hills Country Club and McConnell Golf families Eleven of those came from member referrals, which truly makes me smile. It means so much to know our members are proud of their club and want to share it with others. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your continued support is what keeps our Club thriving
On a related note, beginning April 1, we will be increasing the initiation fee across all Golf Membership categories. The Resident Golf initiation fee will be $12,000 if paid in full or $15,000 with installment options If you know some-
one who has been considering joining, now is a great time for them to connect with me. I am always happy to answer questions, walk them through our membership options, and guide them through the application process

WHAT WE’RE SIPPING
A CHERRY - INSPIRED REFRESH
This spring season, we’ve embraced a cherry theme for our seasonal cocktail features and it couldn’t be a better match for the season Bright, vibrant, and perfectly balanced between sweet and tangy, cherry brings a fresh twist that pairs beautifully with the flavors of the season Our featured spring cocktails include: a Cherry Coconut Margarita, a Cherry Limeade Mule, and a Cherry Bourbon Sour each crafted to highlight the bold, refreshing character of cherry.
This month, we’re sharing the recipe for our Cherry Coconut Margarita, a cocktail that is refreshing, delicious, and full of flavor. The recipe calls for tart cherry juice and coconut cream, a combination that creates a sweet yet tangy taste with a smooth, tropical finish We use Coco Real Cream of Coconut, a high-quality, shelf-stable option that delivers rich flavor and elevates this drink and many others to the next level It’s the perfect ingredient for creating bar-quality cocktails at home
Cheers,
Montgomery Moore | Banquet Manager Banquets@HolstonHills com

Spring and the start of a new golf season are finally upon us. Like everyone else, the staff and I are excited to be back on the course on a more consistent, daily basis During the winter months, we do everything we can, but conditions often limit our ability to maintain the course Bunkers can freeze, making them impossible to rake, and putting surfaces can remain solid, which prevents us from changing hole locations each day.
As we move into spring, this is one of our busiest times of the year, with many important projects happening at once Pre-emergent applications are made throughout the course to establish our summer weed control We also work to get the irrigation system fully up and running after its winter shutdown. Staffing is another focus, as our team is typically at its smallest in late February while we begin building our seasonal crew
Spring aerification is also a key part of our preparation. This three-day process helps set the putting surfaces up for a strong and healthy season In addition, we are always planning for the Visit Knoxville Open, as there is a short window
between when Bermuda begins to green up and the start of the tournament
I always look forward to the start of a new season and am excited for another great year. I look forward to seeing everyone out on the course get out and play!
Ryan Blair, CGCS | Certified Golf Course Superintendent RBlair@HolstonHills com
CONGRATULATIONS, MICHAEL SALVATORE!
We are excited to recognize Michael Salvatore, who was recently promoted to one of our Assistant Superintendent positions
Michael is originally from Morristown, New Jersey, and moved to Tennessee to study Turfgrass Science and Management at the University of Tennessee. During his time there, he completed multiple internships, culminating in his first year after graduation at Valhalla Golf Club, where he was part of the team for the PGA Championship
At the start of 2025, Michael decided to return to the Knoxville area, and we were fortunate to welcome him to our staff earlier this year. His strong work ethic and passion for the game of golf have already made a positive impact on our team, and I look forward to watching him continue to grow and succeed both on and off the course
