Summer has been one for the books! It has been so much fun seeing the club full of life, from golfers enjoying early morning (& after work) tee times to families making memories at the pool, members learning pickleball on our new courts, and evenings filled with live music, great food, and laughter The energy around Holston Hills this summer has been truly special.
On the membership side, May and June have been just as exciting (and wonderfully busy!) Between tours, Preview Play Days, applications, phone calls, and countless emails, the days have certainly flown by During those two months, we were thrilled to welcome 18 new families and one returning family to the Holston Hills Country Club and McConnell Golf family
What makes that even more meaningful is that 11 of those new families joined because of a member referral
That speaks volumes about the pride you have in your club and your willingness to share it with friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. There is no greater compliment than a member recommending Holston Hills to someone they know Thank you for continuing to be our greatest ambassadors
As July turns into August, we'll soon trade pool bags for backpacks and summer schedules for school routines. While the pace of life begins to shift, there's still plenty of fun to enjoy around the club before summer officially comes to a close We have some fantastic events and activities planned, so I hope you'll take advantage of every opportunity to spend time with family and friends here at your club
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, your patience, and the kindness you show our entire team. It is truly a privilege to serve this incredible membership, and I look forward to seeing you around the club throughout the rest of the summer!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY REMINDER
A NOTE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
Dear HHCC Members,
What an exciting season it has already been at Holston Hills Country Club. First and foremost, I want to celebrate the success of this year’s Visit Knoxville Open. Hosting a Korn Ferry Tour event is no small undertaking, and I am incredibly proud of the way our team, members, volunteers, and community came together to showcase Holston Hills at its very best.
As we look toward the future of the Visit Knoxville Open at Holston Hills, your feedback is incredibly important to us Each year brings new opportunities, new challenges, and new ways to improve the experience for our members, guests, players, sponsors, and volunteers We are always looking for ways to ensure we are doing the very best we can, and I encourage you to share your thoughts as we continue building on the strong foundation of this event
Speaking of change, 2026 has certainly not disappointed. We are thrilled to welcome James Rodriguez as our new Director of Tennis and Pickleball James brings wonderful energy, experience, and vision to the program, and we look forward to seeing racquet sports continue to grow under his leadership.
We are also actively in the process of searching for our next Executive Chef This is an important role for the club, and we are committed to finding the right leader to guide our culinary program forward. Dining is such an important part of how our members experience the club, and we are committed to continuing to grow, improve, and elevate that part of Holston Hills
As I approach one year in the GM role at Holston Hills, I am incredibly grateful for the trust, encouragement, and honest feedback so many of you have shared with me. This club means a great deal to me, and I hope that is reflected in the care and commitment I bring to it each day My goal remains simple: to help make Holston Hills the very best private club in Knoxville, a place our members are proud to call home, our team is proud to serve, and others recognize as something truly special
Best Wishes, Josie Lewis | General Manager JLewis@HolstonHills.com

TEE IT UP
Dear Holston Hills Members,
What an incredible summer it has already been here at Holston Hills Country Club! The energy around the property has been unmatched, and I want to personally thank all of you for making this season so memorable. From our daily grid of players to the major events that put our historic course on display, the passion for golf within our membership is shining brighter than ever
A major highlight of our early summer was hosting the Korn Ferry Tour’s Visit Knoxville Open. It was an absolute privilege to welcome some of the world’s best aspiring PGA Tour professionals to our Donald Ross masterpiece The feedback from the players, caddies, and tour officials was overwhelmingly positive they were consistently blown away by the exceptional condition of the course, our facilities, and the warm hospitality of the Holston Hills community. Running an event of this magnitude requires a massive team effort, and I am incredibly proud of how our staff and members came together to showcase our club on a national stage
Following on the heels of that excitement, we transitioned right into our premier club event: the Donald Ross Invitational Member-Guest This year’s field brought incredible competition, fantastic camaraderie, and memories that will last a lifetime. Seeing the course packed with members and your guests enjoying the pristine fairways, sharp competition, and the social atmosphere that defines Holston Hills is exactly what makes my role here so rewarding Congratulations to all of our flight winners, and thank you to everyone who participated and brought such great energy to the tournament
While we have already checked some major milestones off the list, summer is far from over. We have a fantastic lineup of events still ahead on the calendar, including upcoming twilight events, club championships, and unique member socials that you won't want to miss Be sure to keep an eye on the club calendar and secure your spots early As always, my team and I are here to help you get the most out of your game and your club experience, so please stop by the golf shop to say hello, gear up, or talk strategy for your next round.
There’s nothing quite like 3 days of great golf, good food, cold drinks, and even better company From clutch putts and incredible shots to friendly competition, it was a fantastic time at the DRI Invitational Member-Guest.

July and August are always some of our busiest months out on the golf course.
APRONS AERIFICATION
Started the week of June 22nd
Over the next couple of months, we will be working on some of our normal summer tasks.
We are aerifying some of our worst aprons as we work to improve the playing surfaces right around the putting surfaces Our focus will be areas where sod was installed during the bunker renovation project a couple of summers ago Many of these areas were very bumpy when the sod
was installed and we are still dealing with a rough finished product The aerification process will allow us to amend the soil profile in these areas while at the same time smoothing the transition from the sod areas to existing turf.
NATIVE AREA MOWING NATIVE AREA MOWING
Starting this the first or second week of July
In July of each year, we mow down all the native grass areas across the course. We do this to promote the spreading and regrowth of the fescue grass along with the Broomsedge This also allows us the opportunity to physically remove unwanted weeds, along with being able to spray
these areas where needed It does make the course look a little open when these areas are cut, but it is a necessary process to keep them as weedfree as possible.
TEE AND APRON VERTICUTTING
Starting this process the week of July 27th
We try to complete this practice each July when the Bermuda grass is actively growing, and conditions are optimal for healing The practice of verticutting helps remove thatch and grain while promoting a denser, healthier turf Through verticutting, we have been able to maintain our
teeing areas and green surrounds at a much lower height of cut over the past few seasons.
It has also greatly reduced the grain and “puffiness” of the turf, which causes scalping and soft playing conditions. During this process, we will really scalp and “beat up” the turf, resulting in short-term scalping and off-coloring of the grasses This is just a short-term visual effect of the process, which should go away quickly once the grass begins to grow and flourish.
PUTTING SURFACE AERIFICATION
PUTTING SURFACE AERIFICATION
Scheduled for August 11 - 13 th th
Fall aerification is scheduled again this year for August 11 – 13 following the Patricia Neal Outing. We normally try and schedule aerification in August, so we have time for the surfaces to heal prior to the busy Fall golfing season th th
This date is very weather-dependent and might need to be adjusted if we are faced with high temperatures that week
A big thank you for the warm welcome! It has been great meeting so many of you over the past few weeks, whether you stopped by to introduce yourself or joined one of our clinics. I'm excited to get things rolling and see just how many members (and guests!) we can get out on the courts

VISIT KNOXVILLE OPEN
A MESSAGE FROM SCOTT STALLINGS
Dear Friends,
As someone who grew up in East Tennessee and built my career with the support of this community, this year’s Visit Knoxville Open was incredibly special to me
Holston Hills Country Club and the people of Knoxville have supported me throughout my entire journey in golf – from a junior golfer chasing a dream to competing on the PGA TOUR. To see our club and our community showcased on one of golf’s biggest stages was something I’ll never forget.
In many ways, this tournament felt like a full-circle moment The Visit Knoxville Open was the first PGA TOUR-sanctioned event I ever played in as I began my professional career To now be involved on the other side of the event and see what it has become is incredibly meaningful
While we battled weather throughout the week, what stood out most was the support from this community The crowds that showed up on Sunday were amazing, and to look around after the final putt dropped and see a few hundred people still there for the awards ceremony I can tell you, that doesn’t happen on the Korn Ferry Tour every week. It reminded everyone involved just how much Knoxville supports this event and the game of golf.
I want to thank all of our sponsors for making this championship possible Your investment not only helps create a world-class Korn Ferry Tour event, but it also creates lasting benefits for Holston Hills Country Club, the Knoxville community, and the important work being done by the Tennessee Golf Foundation. The impact of this tournament extends far beyond one week of golf.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Visit Knoxville, our title sponsor, and to Kim Bumpas and her outstanding staff for their unwavering support and partnership. Quite simply, we could not ask for a better partner to help showcase our city, our tournament, and everything that makes Knoxville such a special place Their commitment, enthusiasm, and belief in this championship have played an invaluable role in its continued success, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do to elevate the Visit Knoxville Open and the positive impact it has on our community
Over the course of my career, it has been a true honor to partner with the Tennessee Golf Foundation on a number of initiatives, most notably the Scott Stallings Kids Play Free Program As my role with the Foundation has increased during my time away from competitive golf, and with the Tennessee Golf Foundation now operating the Visit Knoxville Open, I am incredibly excited about the future of this event and how it can continue to be used as a vehicle to positively impact lives through the game of golf.
Whit Turnbow, Mike Hammontree, Jamie Stokes, and the entire Tennessee Golf Foundation staff put on a first-class event in every way Everyone I spoke with throughout the week had nothing but great things to say about the tournament experience, hospitality, and organization
I also want to thank Christian Melson, Director of Golf, and his staff for their tremendous work throughout the week. Ryan Blair and the grounds crew presented a golf course that earned praise from players, caddies, and officials from the moment they arrived Thank you as well to Dara Jenkins, Director of Membership and Communications, for everything she and her team did behind the scenes to make the championship a success
A special thank you goes to Cynthia Burrell and her food and beverage team. One of the most common compliments I heard all week came from players and caddies regarding the quality of player dining Providing meals and hospitality for hundreds of competitors, caddies, volunteers, sponsors, and guests is an enormous undertaking, and Cynthia and her staff delivered an exceptional experience throughout the championship The positive feedback was constant and well deserved. A special shout out to Chef Patrick, Big Roy Palmer and David Dooley.
VISIT KNOXVILLE OPEN
A MESSAGE FROM SCOTT STALLINGS
I would also like to recognize General Manager Josie Lewis and everyone at McConnell Golf. Hosting an event of this magnitude requires support from every department, and their commitment to the success of the Visit Knoxville Open was evident throughout the week Their leadership, partnership, and support helped make this championship possible.
Most importantly, thank you to our volunteers Quite simply, this tournament would not be possible without you From sunrise to sunset, throughout a week that included weather delays and long hours, you showed up with enthusiasm, professionalism, and a genuine passion for both our community and the game of golf Whether you were assisting with transportation, scoring, hospitality, operations, player services, admissions, marshaling, or any of the countless other responsibilities required to conduct a championship of this caliber, your efforts were essential to the success of the Visit Knoxville Open Every player, caddie, sponsor,
and the spectator benefited from your hard work. Knoxville has always been known for its hospitality, and our volunteers were among the very best examples of that throughout the week On behalf of everyone involved, thank you for giving your time and helping make this championship such a tremendous success
One of my favorite things about the Visit Knoxville Open is that you are truly watching the future stars of the PGA TOUR Many of the players competing this week will go on to win on golf’s biggest stages, and Knoxville once again provided an incredible setting for them to take the next step in their careers
I couldn’t be prouder of the way everyone involved showcased Holston Hills Country Club and the Knoxville community The hospitality, volunteer support, golf course conditions, and passion of the fans reflected everything that makes this place special.
Thank you for supporting the 2026 Visit Knoxville Open Thank you for supporting Holston Hills Thank you for supporting the Tennessee Golf Foundation and its mission to impact lives through the game of golf
We are already working on next year!

FORMER MCCONNELL GOLF SCHOLAR
CALEB SURRATT EARNS SPOT IN FIRST U.S. OPEN
Former McConnell Golf scholar Caleb Surratt will make his major championship debut at the 2026 U S Open at Shinnecock Hills Surratt secured his spot in golf’s national championship through final qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, where he posted rounds of 70 and 69 before prevailing in a six-man playoff for the final berth He birdied the first playoff hole to punch his ticket to one of the game’s biggest stages.
Many McConnell Golf members have followed Surratt’s journey for years. A standout junior golfer from Charlotte with ties to Providence Country Club, he went on to star at the University of Tennessee, earning first-team All-America honors and winning the SEC individual championship He turned professional in 2024 and now competes for Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on LIV Golf
