NOTES FROM THE GM

Spring is finally in the air, and with it comes one of the most exciting times of the year at the club. The days are getting longer, the course is coming to life, and we are gearing up for a fantastic golf season!

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest Cobblestone members. Despite the chilly temperatures and wet winter weather, it has been wonderful to see steady member traffic early in the new year With prime golf season right around the corner and renovations nearing completion, there truly is no better time to join the McConnell Golf family

As a reminder to our current members, as we enter prime season I encourage everyone to consider upgrading to the Full Network package For an additional $75 per month, you will gain access to all McConnell Golf properties from Pawleys Island and Clinton locally to our clubs throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. It is an impressive portfolio of courses and experiences that we know you will thoroughly enjoy.

As our VP of Agronomy recently confirmed, we remain on target to complete cart path and bunker renovations on Garnet and Black by the first week of April. Whether it’s new sand or fresh sod, projects like these require time to properly settle before reaching optimal playing conditions. Your continued patience during this process is sincerely appreciated

Our upcoming club calendar is quickly filling with what we like to call “Trials & Traditions ” We are bringing back several member favorites while introducing some exciting new highlights. Live entertainment returns to the patio beginning March 13th, Trivia Night takes place on the 18th, followed by our Members Kick-Off Tournament on March 21st. Pastabilities returns on March 20th, and Thirsty Thursday makes its comeback alongside the Thursday Night Men’s League beginning March 26th. Chef Brandon’s Cooking Class 2.0 launches March 24th, Glow Golf Night is set for the 27th, and Easter weekend will feature our Saturday Egg Hunt and Sunday Brunch Buffet. And of course… The Masters is almost here!

Masters Week at Cobblestone is such a special time Hundreds of eager golfers from across the country and well beyond will stop in to experience Cobblestone. Hosting these guests is a tremendous opportunity for the club, and we thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate the increased activity during such a busy and exciting week.

Just beyond the bend in May is our Annual Member–Guest Tournament. This year will feature an all-new layout that we are excited for you to enjoy. Grab your partner and register beginning March 1st spots are limited, so be sure to act quickly!

We have a great deal to look forward to in the coming months, and we are incredibly excited to see the club come alive again with members enjoying everything the season has to offer. Here’s to great golf, great friends, and a fantastic spring at the club. We look forward to seeing you soon.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership at Cobblestone is so much more than access to the course it’s being part of a community that truly feels like family, and we are incredibly thankful for each and every one of our members who continue to make this club so special. As we’ve welcomed a new year, we’ve also welcomed unforgettable events into the clubhouse from chefcurated dinners and themed nights to brunch buffets, creative classes, and high-energy trivia evenings and none of it would be the same without the laughter, support, and enthusiasm you bring through our doors. Whether you’re here for a tee time, a Friday night meal in Alexander’s, or a fun night out with friends, your presence is what fills the clubhouse with life, and we are so grateful to kick off another year of memories, celebrations, and incredible experiences together at Cobblestone.

A note from Chef

What a start to the year it has been. From Southern comfort favorites to pasta nights that felt like a trip straight to Italy, this kitchen has been moving and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

We’ve already shared some incredible evenings together. Southern Night brought bold Lowcountry flavor to the table, our themed dinners kept things fresh and creative, and the energy in the dining room has been something special. Seeing the clubhouse full, hearing the laughter, and watching friends gather around great food is exactly what Cobblestone is all about.

I’m excited about the new Sunday Buffets. They are a chance to slow down, gather with family and friends, and enjoy a thoughtfully curated meal to close out the weekend. Expect comfort classics, seasonal ingredients, and menus designed to feel like home… just without the dishes.

And we’re not stopping there.

This year is about fun, interactive menus and events that bring something different to the table themed culinary nights, chef-driven tasting experiences, cooking classes, paired dinners, and creative buffets that let you try a little bit of everything. I love building menus that match the energy of our events and give you something to look forward to each month. Thank you for supporting the kitchen and for showing up the way you do. We’re just getting started.

STEP ONE: Develop Skills in Classes

We offer weekly group classes for you to attend that are educational and fun.

STEP TWO: Play Your First 9 Holes

Coaches will provide you with a 9 hole playing experience with the Op 36 Model.

STEP THREE: Track Your Golf Journey

The Op 36 Mobile App is your guide outside of classes. It is designed to make it fun to track your golf progress.

CURRICULUM AND GOALS

TECH FOR TRACKING PROGRESS

At Cobblestone Golf Club we believe that every golf program should be centered around playing golf and making it fun to track progress overtime. This is why our facility is excited to be a licensed Operation 36® facility. We leverage the Op 36 On-Course Format (see below) and technology to make it fun for our golfers to improve their skills.

Mastering the Operation 36 Model:

Golfers Play 9 Holes From Level 1 (25 Yards)

Instead of starting at the full tee box, all golfers begin in Level 1 and will play 9 holes starting 25 yards from each green.

Shoot par (36) or better to pass Level

If they shoot par (36) or better, the golfer progresses to Level 2, where they start 50 yards from each green.

Complete the Division 10 challenge

This challenge continues until the golfer can shoot par (36) from all 10 levels!

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

We hope everyone enjoyed the snow we saw at the beginning of February and especially that it was better than the ice! So far, we’ve fared pretty well through the frigid temperatures this winter with minimal damage to the course.

Our renovation projects on the Black and Garnet sides are continuing to move forward. We did experience a few delays due to cold temperatures and rain, but progress has still been steady.

Black Course Update:

Black is essentially complete, with just a few cart path tie-ins remaining that need backfilling on a couple of holes

Garnet Course Update:

Concrete has been poured from Hole 9 tee back through halfway on Hole 5. Crews will continue working backward from 5 to 1, with 9 (from the ladies’ tee back to the green) being completed last. All tree work on Garnet was finalized by the end of January.

Bunker renovations are progressing nicely. Sand will soon be added to bunkers on Holes 7–3. Cap Con will be applied to bunkers on 9, 2, and 1, as they have already been reshaped and fitted with new drainage

We’ve also completed our spring fertilizer application with pre-emergent across all turf areas. This will assist with green-up as temperatures rise in the coming weeks and create a weed barrier to keep weed populations down. (And yes this is the ideal time to apply pre-emergent in your own yards as well!)

As a reminder, please avoid driving through newly sodded areas until the sod has had adequate time to root and firm up in the new soil.

Masters week will be here before we know it one of the best times of the year as everything begins to green up and flowers start to bloom. We look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the renovated areas and hope you have a fantastic spring season ahead.
