Summer is officially here! As we reach the halfway mark of the year, the momentum and excitement around gathering at Cobblestone continue to be incredibly positive I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your continued support of the club These dog days of summer haven’t slowed the action around here, and it has been wonderful to see so many familiar faces enjoying the course, attending events, and simply relaxing with family and friends
As our summer temperatures continue to climb, we ask that you use extra caution while on the course. Your safety is our top priority. To assist in keeping everyone comfortable and hydrated, we have extended the hours of our beverage cart and introduced both a stationary cold towel station and a mobile icy towel cart that will make its way around the course on high heat index days. If you or someone in your group experiences a medical emergency, please call 911 immediately.
While the warmer temperatures and occasional afternoon storms can present challenges, they also provide ideal growing conditions for our golf course. Combined with our recent aerification efforts, these summer conditions will help produce the results we believe you will be very pleased with in the weeks ahead. Regarding those afternoon storms, it is imperative that if you hear the weather horns sound, you immediately retreat to the clubhouse or the nearest safe location. Again, your safety is our highest priority, and we ask that everyone take these warnings seriously.
Our 250th USA Celebration, Golf Course Slip ‘N Slide, and Louisiana Bayou Night were all tremendous successes, and we cannot thank everyone enough who helped make these events so memorable! We have an exciting lineup still ahead this summer, including our increasingly popular Pastabilities, Christmas in July Bingo, Jamaican Night, and our Labor Day Beach Bon Voyage celebration. Personally, I cannot wait for our newest additions: Dueling Pianos Night and 9 Swings, 9 Sips, both coming in September!
As we near August, please pay special attention to your emails and calendars as our golf events begin to gear back up. We will continue to communicate upcoming events and any schedule changes well in advance.
Our much-anticipated clubhouse refresh is set to begin this month, welcoming new carpet and furniture throughout Alexander’s and other clubhouse areas The Pro Shop and locker rooms will also receive enhancements in the coming months While every improvement may not be a major renovation, each one is made with our members’ experience in mind We hope you enjoy these updates and the continued evolution of your club
Our staff continues to work hard every day to provide an exceptional experience both on and off the course Whether you’re joining us for a round of golf, dining at Alexander’s, participating in one of our events, or simply relaxing with fellow members on the veranda, our goal is to make every visit enjoyable. If there is ever anything I can do to enhance your experience at Cobblestone, I encourage you to reach out to me directly.
Your support, feedback, and continued enthusiasm play an important role in helping us make Cobblestone the best it can be. I sincerely appreciate the trust you place in our team.On behalf of our entire staff, thank you for being a part of the Cobblestone family. We wish you a safe, happy, and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to seeing you at the club often in the weeks ahead

Dear Members,
With the summer heat upon us and heat index values climbing well into the 100s, your safety is our top priority. Please be sure to hydrate before you begin your round and continue drinking water throughout your time on the course. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can develop quickly often before you recognize the warning signs.
Signs and symptoms of heat-related illness include:
Body temperature of 104°F or higher • Hot, red, or dry skin • Confusion or dizziness • Headache • Nausea
Rapid pulse • Slurred speech • Loss of consciousness
If you suspect someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately, move the individual to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area and begin cooling them with cold water, ice, or cool, wet towels while waiting for assistance
For your convenience, we also have an iced towel station located at the old scoreboard by the practice putting green to help everyone stay cool during their round.
Our member tournament schedule is in full swing, and we have some exciting events coming up: Par 3 Challenge – August 1

We are also proud to once again host the South Carolina Women's Open from August 6–9 This is a wonderful opportunity to watch some of the finest golfers in the region compete, and we'd love to have members volunteer to help make this premier event another success
Congratulations to the North Team on their impressive victory over the South Team and for successfully retaining the cup in this year's North/South Challenge!

We look forward to seeing you at the club and wish everyone a safe, enjoyable summer on the course!
Mike Burroughs Director of Golf

As we head into the heart of summer, I hope everyone is enjoying the season! Summer has definitely arrived, and the hot weather is here to stay.
We were fortunate to receive some much-needed rainfall before our Member-Guest Tournament, with a total of 7 4 inches in May and another 3 6 inches so far in June The rain has been a tremendous help, allowing our turf to recover from the renovation work and heal some of the hightraffic areas. It has also continued to improve the condition of our bunkers, helping them become firmer and more consistent.
n June, we completed our annual core aerification of all greens, and this year we also aerified all fairways Aerification is an essential maintenance practice that creates small holes in the turf, allowing air, water, and nutrients to reach the soil While it temporarily affects playing conditions, the long-term benefits are well worth it, resulting in healthier turf and firmer, more consistent playing surfaces. Our greens will continue to improve and should be back to top condition during the first couple of weeks in July.
On a more fun note, we had a great time with our first-ever 150-foot Slip 'N Slide on the hill at Black #1! It was a huge hit with members and families, and we're excited to bring it back again in July

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to keep the course in great shape. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the course this summer. Stay cool, play well, and most importantly have fun!
David Cavender
Golf Course Superintendent

The series continues with its second installment, an exclusive interview featuring retired ACC Commissioner and Sedgefield member John Swofford. In the conversation, Swofford reflects on the ACC’s founding at the Sedgefield Inn and the enduring connection between the conference and the club
The third installment turns to one of Sedgefield’s most remarkable chapters when the club’s own head golf professional, Tony Manero, stunned the golf world by capturing the 1936 U S Open title on one of the sport’s biggest stages

CALEB SURRATT
Former McConnell Golf scholar Caleb Surratt will make his major championship debut at the 2026 U S Open at Shinnecock Hills Surratt secured his spot in golf’s national championship through final qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, where he posted rounds of 70 and 69 before prevailing in a six-man playoff for the final berth He birdied the first playoff hole to punch his ticket to one of the game’s biggest stages.
Many McConnell Golf members have followed Surratt’s journey for years. A standout junior golfer from Charlotte with ties to Providence Country Club, he went on to star at the University of Tennessee, earning first-team All-America honors and winning the SEC individual championship He turned professional in 2024 and now competes for Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on LIV Golf
Surratt’s U S Open appearance marks another milestone in a career filled with accomplishments, but for those who watched him develop as a young player through the McConnell Golf scholarship program, it is especially rewarding to see him competing alongside the best players in the world. McConnell Golf congratulates Caleb on reaching his first U.S. Open and wishes him the best of luck at Shinnecock Hills
