A LETTER FROM JD TRUEBLOOD Dear Members, Summer has certainly brought the heat! As we look forward to cooler temperatures and the start of fall, there is still plenty of fun to be had at CCA. We have a full lineup of Member events and activities to enjoy as we close out the season. I want to give a huge congratulations to our CCA Ladies on their victory in the McConnell Golf Solheim Cup! Led by Head Golf Professional Ross Lally, our seven-member team battled back on day two to secure first place. What an incredible accomplishment! A special thank-you also goes to our staff for working tirelessly throughout the event and to our Members for their patience and flexibility as we navigated some challenging weather. A big thank-you to all of our Members and families who made the most of our summer programs, from Kids’ Camp to Tennis and Golf Camps. It has been wonderful to see so many kids enjoying the Club, trying new activities, and making memories. We are grateful to our incredible staff who make these programs possible and bring so much energy to every camp. As summer winds down, there is still time to soak up the last days of pool season! Join us on Monday, September 7, for our Labor Day Pool Party and help us send off summer in style. Enjoy music, a pool deck cookout, and plenty of poolside fun, including the Juice Dive, Beer Dive, and Greased Watermelon Contest. It’s the perfect way to spend the holiday with family and friends and make the most of the final day of pool season! With football season just around the corner, be sure to stop by the Donald Ross Bar & Grill after your next round and catch some of the action. We are also excited to welcome the Monday Qualifier for the PGA TOUR event at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. If you are planning to attend and have not yet signed up for our shuttle service, please do so as soon as possible rather than waiting until the last minute. Early registration will help us plan appropriately and ensure a smooth experience for everyone. Finally, I want to express my sincere appreciation to our wonderful Members and staff who continue to make CCA such a special place. Your enthusiasm, support, and participation have made this season a memorable one. We look forward to enjoying these final weeks of summer with you and to all the exciting things still to come! Warm Regards,

JD Trueblood General Manager

GOLF

Tee it Up Hopefully, we’ve made it through the summer heat and are ready for cooler days and beautiful fall weather! September and October are two of the best months to enjoy golf at CCA, and we have plenty of exciting golf events on the calendar. This year, we will only be closing the course for one day for fall aerification. On Tuesday, September 15, our golf course maintenance team will be completing a light hole aerification and topdressing the greens with sand to help keep them in excellent condition heading into the fall season. Fall merchandise is also beginning to arrive in the Golf Shop! New men’s and ladies’ apparel from Peter Millar, Holderness & Bourne, Sun Day Red, and FootJoy will be hitting the racks, along with new CCA T-shirt designs that we can’t wait to share with the membership. Our yearlong Match Play Tournament is heating up as we head into the quarterfinals! Our remaining competitors are Brad Eastwood vs. Guille Henegar, Dan Bowers vs. Brett Killian, Thomas Hostetler vs. Bill Holmes, and Bruce Newman vs. Holland West. Good luck to all of our competitors as they battle their way toward the championship!

GROUNDS

Super’s Corner September and October are the time of year when the GCM Team allows the turf to recover from the stresses of summer while turning our attention to aerification, seeding, and fertilizing. Cooler nighttime temperatures, coupled with lower humidity, will be a welcome sight after the heat and humidity we experienced this past summer. This fall’s tournament calendar, along with hosting the Biltmore Classic qualifier, has altered our approach to fall aerification. We will be closed on September 15 to allow the staff to aerify the greens, followed by a light topdressing and the addition of soil amendments. As for tees and approaches, we will work these areas into our Maintenance Mondays and other available times throughout September and October. Recovery from fall aerification is generally much quicker, with greens typically healing within seven to ten days. We will also continue our overseeding efforts in the rough, especially in high-traffic areas, around green complexes, and in areas with high bentgrass populations. We are using a turf-type tall fescue seed, which performs well under drought conditions and tolerates foot, mower, and cart traffic much better. Fall also brings leaf season—and everyone’s favorite frost delays. If there is ever a question about a frost delay, you can always check Super’s Corner on the website. We generally have it updated no later than 7:00 a.m. As always, thank you for your patience and support as we work through our fall maintenance program and prepare the course for the upcoming season. Warmly, Sean K. Baskette Golf Course Superintendent Country Club of Asheville

SEDGEFIELD COUNTRY CLUB SECURES PLACE IN PGA TOUR’S NEW CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES One of the PGA TOUR’s longest-running relationships will continue into a new era as Sedgefield Country Club remains home to Greensboro’s PGA TOUR event. Beginning in 2028, the tournament will become part of the new PGA TOUR Championship Series, with Raymond James serving as title sponsor. The event will be contested as a full-field PGA TOUR event in 2027 before transitioning to the Championship Series. Founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open, the tournament has been won by legends including Sam Snead, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan, with Sedgefield hosting the event more than 40 times. After a 31-year absence, the PGA TOUR returned to Sedgefield in 2008 following the restoration of its Donald Rossdesigned course, and McConnell Golf acquired the club in 2011. The announcement ensures Sedgefield will remain on one of golf’s biggest stages as the PGA TOUR enters its next era. In 2028, the Greensboro event will celebrate its 90th anniversary, bringing its remarkable history full circle.
