At Country Club of Asheville, it's our members who make this community so special Beyond the golf course, tennis courts, pool, and clubhouse, our membership is filled with accomplished, talented, and inspiring individuals who are making an impact in their professions, families, and communities This section is dedicated to celebrating those achievements and sharing the stories that make CCA more than a club, a community We are proud to recognize and applaud the successes of our members

Congratulations to CCA Member Steven G. Erick on the publication of his second book, A Quarter Past One. A retired Nuclear Submarine Commanding Officer and engineer, Steven has dedicated much of his career to serving and protecting our nation. His latest novel is a gripping political thriller that imagines a chilling scenario: an independent U.S. President and the powerful forces behind him attempt to dismantle the Constitution from within. Filled with political intrigue, hidden agendas, and high-stakes consequences, A Quarter Past One explores how fragile democracy can become when power is placed above principle.

Congratulations to the Slingerland family on welcoming their son, Harry, in January! While he may be one of CCA's youngest members, Harry has already discovered one of his favorite club amenities: the pool! They have also recently welcomed Harry's grandparents, the Whites, to the area. Escaping the Florida heat for the summer, they have relocated nearby and are joining the CCA family as well. We are delighted to welcome multiple generations of the family to the club and look forward to seeing them make memories together for years to come.

CCA Member Andrea McNash has been rediscovering her love of tennis After nearly a 20-year hiatus from the sport, Andrea returned to the court and found an experience even more meaningful than she expected: playing mixed doubles alongside her son on a CCA USTA team Since joining CCA last June as Sport Members, Andrea and her family have enjoyed becoming part of the club community Her story is a wonderful reminder of how the club brings generations together through shared interests, friendly competition, and lasting memories

March 17, 2026 marked an exciting milestone for CCA member William Heedy and the team at Coffield Heedy Kilgore PLLC as they celebrated the firm's one-year anniversary. In its first year, the firm has established itself as a full-service transactional law practice, providing counsel in business law, corporate transactions, estate planning, trust and estate administration, patents, trademarks, and residential and commercial real estate. The firm also welcomed fellow CCA member Barrett McFatter in December 2025. Barrett now leads the firm's residential and commercial real estate practice, further strengthening the services offered to clients throughout the region. We congratulate the team on this milestone and wish them continued success in the years ahead.

Summertime golf at Country Club of Asheville is in full swing We are halfway through 2026 and on track to have a record year in rounds played It is hard to believe we are already in July but we have lots of fun golf events coming up Country Club of Asheville is playing host to the McConnell Golf Solheim Cup July 10 -12 , ladies from all other McConnell properties will be here to play a two-day Ryder Cup style tournament It will be a fun two days of golf and social events, we want to wish our CCA Ladies Team good luck as they compete to bring home the trophy this year! th th

Reminders: I wanted to take this opportunity to mention a couple of things that we really need the membership’s help with. Please remember to repair ball marks on putting greens, replace your divots in the fairways, or fill with sand and rake sand traps when leaving a bunker. If we all do our part when on the golf course it helps the members playing behind you and it helps our golf course maintenance staff take care of the golf course.

As a reminder, the golf course and practice facilities are closed on Mondays to allow our Golf Course Maintenance team uninterrupted time to complete essential work and keep the course in excellent condition. We have noticed members using the course and practice areas on recent Mondays and kindly ask that everyone respect the closure. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

We are starting a ladies clinic called Sips and Tips! Twice a month, the golf professional staff will be on the driving range offering swing tips while also providing a glass of wine Clinics will be for one hour and ladies are welcome to come socialize, have a glass of wine and get some help with your game. Super's Corner GROUNDS

Unlike much of the rest of North Carolina, we finally received our fair share of rainfall during the last ten days of May Most importantly, the flow of Beaverdam Creek has increased, allowing us to maintain the irrigation pond at an optimal level Many courses throughout the Carolinas and MidAtlantic are facing water restrictions with some only able to water greens complexes

July and August are always the most challenging months for turf managers. As temperatures rise and humidity increases, it becomes critical to closely monitor soil moisture levels, especially when afternoon thunderstorms become part of the daily weather pattern. During this stretch, our staff spends more time hand-watering in the mornings and then shifts to "syringing" greens and other turf areas during the afternoons to help cool the plant. If you encounter a staff member watering during your round, please make them aware of your presence before playing your shot.

As we enter the "dog days" of summer, traffic management becomes increasingly important, particularly as we are on pace for a record number of rounds played this year. Both cart and foot traffic can create wear issues, especially in areas where carts enter and exit fairways, around greens complexes, and where players walk between greens, bunkers, and the next teeing ground. We kindly ask that you remain mindful of these hightraffic areas during your round and help us protect the turf by spreading out traffic whenever possible.

We are excited to share several recent enhancements to our tennis facilities as we continue investing in the experience of our growing tennis community The newly refreshed Tennis Pavilion now features fresh paint throughout, a new heating and air conditioning system, updated furniture, a new refrigerator, and ongoing décor improvements designed to create a more welcoming and comfortable gathering space for members Beyond the pavilion, improvements have also been made throughout the tennis complex, including additional court-side seating, and expanded lighting to support increased evening play and upcoming tournaments.

As participation in our tennis programs continues to grow, we remain committed to enhancing both our facilities and programming. In addition to these improvements around the tennis complex, we recently expanded our clinic offerings to provide greater availability and more opportunities for members of all skill levels to participate. 1½cupall-purposeflour

½tspsalt

½tspbakingsoda

2largeeggs,roomtemperature

¾cuplightbrownsugar

⅓cupgranulatedsugar

2tspvanillaextract

5ozsemi-sweetchocolatechips

⅔cupgrahamcrackers(3sheets)

1cupminimarshmallows

Directions:

1 In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat Continue to heat, while occasionally stirring, until the butter has brown specks throughout Careful not to burn the butter Remove from heat and transfer to a large bowl Set aside to cool, but not thicken

2 In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt

3.Once the butter is at room temperature, whisk in the eggs, both sugars, and vanilla extract.

4.Add the dry ingredients to the mixture and fold together until combined. Add the chopped chocolate and mix just until incorporated. Carefully fold in broken graham crackers and marshmallows

Ingredients:

1 cup pistachios, shelled and roughly chopped

2 cups unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

4 ½ cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

2 cups brown sugar

2 cups pistachio pudding mix

4 eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract (e g , Simply Organic)

2 cups chocolate chips

2 cups sweetened shredded coconut

Directions:

1.Preheat oven to 350°F.

2 Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper

3 Shell and roughly chop the pistachios if not already done

4 Allow the butter to soften to room temperature

5.In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.

6.In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until creamy.

7.Add the pistachio pudding mix, eggs, and vanilla extract; mix until combined.

8 Reduce mixer speed to low and slowly add the dry flour mixture

9 Fold in the chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped pistachios

10 Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto the prepared cookie sheet

11 Bake for 8–10 minutes

12.Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

CALEB SURRATT EARNS SPOT IN

FIRST U.S. OPEN

Former McConnell Golf scholar Caleb Surratt will make his major championship debut at the 2026 U S Open at Shinnecock Hills Surratt secured his spot in golf’s national championship through final qualifying at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas, where he posted rounds of 70 and 69 before prevailing in a six-man playoff for the final berth He birdied the first playoff hole to punch his ticket to one of the game’s biggest stages

Many McConnell Golf members have followed Surratt’s journey for years. A standout junior golfer from Charlotte with ties to Providence Country Club, he went on to star at the University of Tennessee, earning first-team All-America honors and winning the SEC individual championship He turned professional in 2024 and now competes for Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team on LIV Golf

Surratt’s U S Open appearance marks another milestone in a career filled with accomplishments, but for those who watched him develop as a young player through the McConnell Golf scholarship program, it is especially rewarding to see him competing alongside the best players in the world.
