2026 Southwest Region Safety Update

During Safety Week this year, our partners and craft professionals proved that safety isn’t just a priority; it’s who we are. With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, it also brought more insight to how safety isn’t just physical, it’s feeling mentally safe as well. Thank you to everyone who planned and participated in activities across our company, reinforcing what it truly means to “Take Pride in Safety.” If you have not done so already, I encourage everyone to read this month’s highlights below.

On T3N2, we needed to roll out some changes to our trade partners about how to book deliveries in PLOT. I used Glean to help simplify our scenario-based instructions into a concise, easy to follow email that multiple trade partners could benefit from. Because that was quite a bit of written information, I also asked Glean to turn those same instructions into a flowchart so the team could understand the updated steps visually based on the scenario that best applies."

CREIGHTON BILTMORE PREPARATORY ACADEMY GROUNDBREAKING CELEBRATION

An exciting new chapter is underway at Biltmore Preparatory Academy as construction officially began on the reimagined campus in the heart of Phoenix. Designed by SPS+ Architects, the new campus will celebrate the school's identity as a dual immersion program, featuring spaces that support learning, creativity, and collaboration in both Spanish and English. The groundbreaking ceremony highlighted the students, with a student emcee, dual language speeches, and a touching performance by first graders. The new campus is scheduled to welcome students before the 2027 through 2028 school year, and the team is proud to help bring this vision to life while supporting continued learning throughout construction. The future is bright for the Biltmore Preparatory Academy Tigers.

BESS GROUND BREAKING AT BIG HOLLOW

Big news for McCarthy's energy team! We officially broke ground on the Big Hollow Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project — a historic first groundbreaking alongside Ameren. The event was a chance to pause and celebrate not just the start of construction, but the partnership that made it happen. McCarthy is growing its footprint in the BESS market, and Big Hollow is a real sign of that momentum. Projects like this reflect our commitment to building the energy infrastructure of the future — one innovative solution at a time. 2026 COMMUNICATORS PROGRAM

The 2026 Communicators cohort was truly one for the books. From day one, this group showed up with energy, openness, and a genuine commitment to growth and that spirit never wavered throughout the 7-week program. Participants worked through foundational communication principles and honed their presentation skills week by week, culminating in a final mock interview presentation in front of Southwest leadership at ICWC. The camaraderie in this group was something special; they pushed each other, cheered each other on, and brought their best every single session. A huge congratulations to Group 3, Cal Aboud, Patrick Hoffmann, Ryan Winton, Cody Fischer, and David Gibler, who took home the win with a standout final performance. To the entire 2026 cohort: thank you for giving this program everything you had!

LUPINUS SOLAR TEAM ATTENDS CRAWFISH BOIL

The Lupinus Solar team had the opportunity to attend the Slade Baker Memorial Crawfish Boil in Paris, Texas. Time was spent connecting with community members, participating in raffles and auctions, and enjoying plenty of crawfish alongside fellow attendees. The event provided a great opportunity to strengthen local relationships while supporting the organizations that serve the community every day. All proceeds from the crawfish boil help fund fire school scholarships for local fire department partners, making a direct impact on the future of emergency services in the area.

GONG LUI FEATURED FOR AAPI MONTH

In recognition of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May, we are proud to have our very own Preconstruction Vice President, Gong Liu be featured for the impact he has made throughout his 32 year career in construction. What began with a chance conversation led Gong to a career that has included helping deliver major projects, mentoring future leaders, and supporting the growth of McCarthy's Mission Critical business unit. Throughout his career, Gong has focused on building strong teams, creating effective systems, and fostering a culture that empowers others to succeed. For Gong, the most meaningful legacy is not just the projects that shape a skyline, but the people, processes, and opportunities that help future generations achieve great things. VOICE VOLUNTEERS AT AUTISM CHARITY BREAKFAST FOR SOUTHWEST AUTISM RESEARCH

AND RESOURCE CENTER (SAARC)

VOICE was proud to participate in the SSRC charity breakfast, which welcomed more than 1,000 attendees. The event provided a meaningful opportunity to connect with the community, show support for an important cause, and help raise awareness. Seeing so many people come together in support of inclusion made the experience especially rewarding.

This month’s featured partner for “5 Questions With..." is Southwest Region Senior Project Director Ashley Cracraft. Ashley joined McCarthy Building Companies in 2022 and brings strong leadership and industry experience to the team. She is part of a family deeply connected to McCarthy, her husband, Dan Dunn (left), is a Southwest Project Superintendent, and her brother, Brian Cracraft (right), is a Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Senior Project Manager.

AAPI HERITAGE MONTH RECAP

This year’s AAPI Heritage Month celebration brought the theme “AAPI Legacy in Shaping America” to life through an interactive cultural experience that encouraged partners to learn, connect, and reflect. At the center of the event was a custom Snack Passport that guided participants through ten countries and their unique stories, highlighting the history, traditions, and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

The event featured several hands-on cultural experiences. Miranda Dueñas led the henna station, sharing the tradition’s history and significance while creating designs for guests. Gabriella Stadler introduced partners to the art and history of East Asian calligraphy before inviting them to create their own piece featuring a McCarthy core value. Mark Skidmore hosted a tea bar experience, offering a variety of teas from across the AAPI region.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Wellness Champions Abigail Sanders and Gabe Champion facilitated reflection activities focused on heritage, personal strengths, and individual stories.

What made the event especially memorable were the conversations it inspired. Partners learned something new, shared their own experiences, and connected with one another in meaningful ways. The celebration reflected what it means to be "All In" and reinforced the importance of creating a workplace where every partner feels seen, respected, and valued.

SELF-PERFORM ELECTRIC (SPE) LEADERSHIP Q1 MEETING

SPE leaders came together in Phoenix for a bi-annual leadership meeting. The group included both field and office partners, creating an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and focus on what matters most for the team’s continued success. A large part of the conversation centered on our Strategic Map and how the USA initiatives are being put into action across SPE. The discussions focused on key priorities, challenges, and opportunities that will help drive success throughout this year and into the next. As SPE continues to grow beyond Renewable Energy and expand into Battery Storage and Mission Critical markets, there is a strong focus on applying the same strategies and best practices that have fueled success in Renewable Energy. By leveraging these initiatives, our team is building a strong foundation and accelerating growth in these new markets.

MOTHER'S DAY AT THE PHOENIX OFFICE

A big thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the Mother’s Day bouquet arranging event at the Phoenix office a beautiful success. TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

Teacher Appreciation Week gave us another meaningful opportunity to celebrate the teachers who help our school communities thrive every day. This year, McCarthy showed up across multiple schools with coffee carts, lunches, and lounge refresh boxes. These small gestures go a long way in reminding educators that their hard work doesn't go unnoticed. McCarthy is proud to show up for the teachers who show up for others, because the people inside the buildings we build matter just as much as the buildings themselves.

VANTAGE SAFETY SUMMIT

Vantage Data Centers held its second Safety Summit, which unites peers and shares best practices around employee health, safety, and well-being. McCarthy partners showed our passion for safety at the event and provided a valuable opportunity to connect with industry partners, share ideas, and reinforce the importance of keeping safety at the forefront of every project. We are proud to partner with Vantage Data Centers in creating environments where a strong safety culture is shared, practiced, and continuously strengthened.

Construction Safety Week 2026 wrapped up under the theme "All In Together: Recognize. Respond. Respect." Teams across the company participated in toolbox talks, recognition events, mental health awareness initiatives, and craft appreciation activities, reinforcing our commitment to Taking Pride in Safety.

Here in the Southwest, project teams across the region got in on the action by hosting team activities, giveaways, and safety conversations throughout the week. It was a great showing all around. Thank you to everyone who celebrated this week and for embodying a culture of safety not just during Safety Week, but every day at McCarthy.

NURSES WEEK AT BANNER HEALTH!

Danny Fernandez and the Banner Mechanical team had the privilege of delivering bundles of appreciation to nursing teams across Banner Health campuses, including Boswell, Baywood, Casa Grande, Del Webb, Tucson, Gateway, and several others. The nursing teams recognized our partners, knew the McCarthy name, and welcomed us with genuine appreciation. Seeing their excitement over a simple gesture of gratitude made a lasting impact and served as a reminder of the strong partnership between our teams. These nurses and healthcare professionals work alongside our crews every day, adapting to construction activities while continuing to provide exceptional care to their patients. UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA MEDICAL INNOVATION DBIA PRESENTATION

Partners from the University of Arizona Medical Innovation Building project team present at this year’s Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) Western Pacific Region Education Summit and Awards. The team shared how trust, collaboration, and alignment established early in the project created a strong foundation for successfully navigating challenges and change. Their experience highlights the value of building strong partnerships and maintaining a shared commitment to project goals from day one. This project is a great example of what can be accomplished when the Design Build Institute of America’s Design Build Done Right principles are put into practice. Together, the team is making great progress toward delivering a facility that will help shape the future of medicine.

McCARTHY HOSTS CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY INSTITUTE RESEARCH TEAM

Drew Jackson and other partners hosted a Construction Industry Institute Research Team during a recent workshop and team building event in Denver. The time spent together provided a valuable opportunity to share ideas, strengthen collaboration, and support ongoing research efforts that are helping shape the future of the construction industry. Events like this continue to play an important role in developing the next generation of craft professionals.

AMERICAN CLEAN POWER (ACP) ASSOCIATION CLEANPOWER 2026 CONFERENCE

Renewable Energy partners had a great time at the ACP CLEANPOWER 2026 conference in Houston. The event highlighted the strength of the Renewable Energy industry and the growing urgency around new power generation, particularly as large energy users and data centers continue to drive unprecedented grid demand. Conversations spanned the full project lifecycle, from development and Independent Power Producer (IPP) to utilities and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) teams, all focused on what it takes to bring new capacity online.

The week was also a great chance to connect with industry partners and celebrate the women shaping the future of Renewable Energy at the EmpowHER event.

T3N2 SUMMER INTERNS ARE HERE!

Welcoming the summer interns to the Phoenix Sky Harbor Terminal 3 North 2 project has been an exciting milestone for the team. The opportunity to introduce these future industry professionals to the work happening on site is something everyone looks forward to each year. The team is excited to share knowledge, provide hands on experience, and help our interns learn more about the construction industry.

During Admin Appreciation Week, we celebrated the incredible administrative professionals who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

MIKE GONZALEZ ON DBIA AMPLIFY VOICES

As part of the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) AMPLIFY VOICES series, partner Mike Gonzalez, Design Build Institute of America Accredited Professional and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional, was interviewed via DBIA podcast. With a career spanning more than 35 years, Mike has led work across the Southwest education sector and supported delivery of more than 3.4 billion dollars in projects. The discussion highlighted how the design build delivery method continues to evolve, with a stronger focus on relationship building, communication, and team first collaboration. Mike also reflected on his early experiences in design build work and how those foundational lessons still apply today. Thank you to Mike for supporting conversations that continue to advance the industry through shared insight and collaboration.

VANTAGE AZ1 TORCH AWARD

The Vantage Data Centers AZ1 Campus in Goodyear, Arizona recently launched the Torch Award, a new recognition program created to celebrate partners who exemplify McCarthy's Smart and Healthy Partner attributes through their actions, attitude, and commitment to the team. Each quarter, partners are invited to nominate a teammate who consistently demonstrates our values and helps create a positive, high performing culture. Nominations are supported with real examples of impact, collaboration, and leadership, and partners then vote to select the recipient. For the inaugural award, the team selected Senior Project Administrator Jennifer Hale as the first Torch Award recipient for the first quarter of 2026. Jennifer earned this recognition through her consistent dedication, professionalism, and positive influence on the team. Her commitment to supporting others and setting a strong example has helped raise the standard for what it means to be a Smart and Healthy Partner every day. Congratulations, Jennifer, on this well-deserved recognition.

Renewable Energy President Dhruv Patel recently joined fellow Engineering News Record National Top 20 Under 40 recipients for a discussion on the trends and challenges shaping today’s design and construction industry. The conversation explored topics including the use of artificial intelligence, navigating changing market conditions, and the importance of leadership that encourages learning at every level. These discussions highlighted how innovation and collaboration continue to drive progress across the industry. We are proud to see Dhruv representing McCarthy and sharing insights on the future of design, construction, and renewable energy.

• July — All submissions get featured in SWAG, and readers vote for their favorite duo.

• August — The winning pair is revealed and will get a prize! Please be mindful of your surroundings when snapping your twin moment. Be respectful of meetings, client spaces, and anyone who may not want to be in the background of your shot!

Craft Engagement Survey

Microsoft Entra will replace Okta as our enterprise-wide Single Sign On (SSO) tool to access work applications. All partners will need to complete a one-time setup for MFA in Entra by July 31. Look out for more communications or contact Jocelyn Rollerson with questions.
