McCarthy had the opportunity to sponsor a basketball camp for 300 Tribal youth at the Phoenix Suns arena. Through this sponsorship, young athletes were given a unique opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence, and feel inspired inside a professional sports setting. Opportunities like this go beyond sports. They help encourage teamwork, discipline, and belief in what is possible. Thank you to all partners who made this event a success!
Casino Del Sol reached a major project milestone with the successful placement of its signature dome atop the casino in the heart of Tucson. This achievement marks a key step forward in the project and showcases the teamwork, skill, and dedication of everyone involved. Pictured is the Pascua Yaqui Tribal Council.

The project team came together for lunch to celebrate the concrete deck pours at the Sedona Parking Garage. Warm season’s greetings and happy holidays from the Sedona Garage team!

A big shout-out to James Wright, Adam Smith, Leslie Howard, Matt Fernandez, and Kyler Litchefield for their outstanding work on the Sedona Parking Garage project. This team consistently stepped up, navigating project constraints and field challenges while coordinating seamlessly with other trades. Their ability to adapt, plan ahead, and execute installations efficiently kept the project moving and maintained strong jobsite momentum. The professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to quality demonstrated by this crew made a meaningful impact on the project’s success. Thank you for hard work and for continuing to set the standard in the field. Great job, team!
The Madison Rose Lane project team hosted a taco feast for trade partners, design partners, inspectors, and school staff ahead of the winter holiday break. Full-time interns supporting the project also joined in to celebrate and enjoy the meal together.
McCarthy Mechanical teams continue to deliver exceptional work across multiple active jobsites, and recent photos from Boswell and Baywood show just a glimpse of the effort, skill, and coordination happening in the field. At the Boswell jobsite, the team completed more 25 hot tap and line stop locations to support critical system tie-ins. This work required careful planning, precision, and a strong focus on safety to maintain system integrity—a true display of technical expertise.
At the Baywood jobsite, photos capture the demolition of an existing steam heat exchanger and the installation of new hot heating water pumps. This significant system upgrade highlights the team’s ability to manage complex mechanical work efficiently and safely. A big thank you to the McCarthy Mechanical team for hard work, collaboration, and dedication. From planning to execution, these projects reflect the pride and high standards brought to every jobsite.

2025 marked another successful year at the annual McCarthy Charity Golf Classic. McCarthy partners, volunteers, and industry peers gathered at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club with one shared goal: supporting our Heart Hats charities, Ryan House and Arizona Bleeding Disorders. The day was filled with connection and fun, 18 holes of premier golf, customized hats, Bad Birdie apparel, raffles, a primerib dinner, and time spent building relationships across the industry. Most importantly, the event raised a significant amount directly supporting Heart Hats efforts for years to come. The impact of this day will be felt well beyond the golf course. Thank you to every partner who helped make this event a great success. Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the greens again in December 2026!

Members of the Heart Hats committee had the opportunity to experience a meaningful White Christmas with partners at Ryan House. The annual White Christmas Gala was an inspiring reminder of why this partnership matters. Hearing directly from families whose lives have been supported and uplifted by Ryan House made the evening especially impactful.

The word “prefabrication” takes on quite a different meaning when it comes to steel. Unlike its counterpart trades, Electrical and Concrete, within the Chandler Prefabrication Facility (Chandler Prefab), McCarthy's Steel Fabrication group (Steel Fab) was not a consolidation of existing jobsite activities. It represents an entirely new capability McCarthy invested in, requiring a dedicated fabrication facility and laying the foundation for a thriving differentiator for the company.
While concrete and electrical prefabrication centralized work that had long been performed in makeshift workshops across jobsites nationwide, steel fabrication cannot be executed in the field. Historically, projects worked with third-party fabricators, hoping to receive quality products with lead times matching project schedules. Now, with a booming fabrication business, the Southwest has eliminated this dependency entirely, strengthening control over quality, scheduling, and delivery.

“A
LOT OF TIMES IN THE STEEL BUSINESS, QUALITY IS DRIVEN BY MONEY, BUT WE’RE ABLE TO MAKE SURE THERE IS A TRUE DELINEATION BETWEEN PROFIT VERSUS QUALITY. WE WON’T SEND SOMETHING BAD OUT IN THE FIELD BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO COST US EXTRA TO DO IT RIGHT."

Prior to retrofitting an entire steel fabrication shop at Chandler Prefab, Steel Fab comprised seven craft and salaried professionals, hand-fabricating concrete embeds under a shade canopy in the ICWC parking lot. Much like the evolution of Concrete Prefabrication, it wasn’t until the ISTB7 Pedestrian Bridge project that a grassroots capability presented a unique scalable business opportunity.
With the complexity of the steel canopy over the bridge, the project team struggled to find a single contractor, at the time, that was willing to manage the fabrication and installation. Stepping in to fill the gap, Steel Fab — known at the time as Self-Perform Metal — executed one of the most complex steel projects the region has seen to date, delivering a solution others were unwilling to attempt.

That project set the tone for what would follow. Time and again, the team had proven its eagerness to tackle highly complex steel scopes that many local fabricators would shy away from, solidifying the importance of this in-house capability as projects continued to grow in scale and complexity.
“SELF-PERFORM IS A GREAT MONEY GENERATOR, BUT WE ALSO NEED TO BE ABLE TO DO THINGS THAT EVERYBODY ELSE REFUSES TO DO. I THINK WE ARE INHERENTLY WILLING TO JUMP THROUGH HOOPS THAT NOBODY ELSE IS REALLY WILLING TO TOUCH.”

Mauricio Underwood DESIGN MANAGER

Beyond complexity, having this capability also allows the region to develop its own priority list and fabrication schedule based on the unique timelines of each project, maximizing shop capabilities rather than the common firstcome, first-served approach.
A recent project for Molson-Coors in Colorado struggled to find a local fabricator that could meet the tight deadlines for the project. Steel Fab was able to support the Colorado partners from design, fabrication, and delivery in just under three weeks — a timeline that would be seen as nearly impossible in the industry.
“I’VE WORKED WITH A LOT OF STEEL FAB SHOPS OVER THE YEARS, AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY I’VE NEVER SEEN A TURNAROUND LIKE THIS. YOU SET THE BAR HIGH, BUT I KNOW THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT WE WOULD GET FROM MCCARTHY PARTNERS.”

Almost two years ago, Vice President of Operations Dave Clarkson hired Senior Project Manager John Gray to help establish a fully functioning steel fabrication business. A former Navy welder and firefighter, John brings over four decades of steel experience, contributing to the successful startup of three fabrication facilities around the country.
John notes that most steel fabrication shops are limited to growing at the pace of their profits, often delaying investments in advanced technology. However, McCarthy invested in full facility’s worth of the necessary technology at the outset, allowing the team to build immediate momentum following the opening of Chandler Prefab.

With this investment, the team grew from seven professionals to now 45 dedicated craft welders and ironworkers and a team of management, design, and quality professionals. In just over a year, the team evolved from hand-fabricating key elements for ISTB12 and Queen Creek’s Mountain Trail Academy to fabricating steel in-house for as many as three projects simultaneously.
From embeds and stairs to beams, columns, structural steel, and handrails, the team is equipped to execute nearly any steel scope inhouse, fully eliminating previous struggles with local fabricators. Once fabricated, all steel is then erected in the field through Self-Perform or a trusted trade partner.
Given the highly structural and regulated nature of steel, few trades demand a greater level of compliance and quality control. By bringing fabrication in-house, the team maintains direct oversight of quality, inspections, and documentation, while field partners benefit from collaborating with like-minded professionals who share a common culture of accountability, safety, and disciplined project management.
Under the leadership of Project Directors Chris James and Martin Vierra, the steel team at Chandler Prefab supports projects from design through erection, becoming a rapidly profitable operation. Both Chris and Martin collaborate to identify opportunities for fabrication on projects in the pursuit phase, forecasting shop capacity and assessing needs for growth.
Design Manager Mauricio Underwood joined McCarthy after leading design for ASU’s Mill Avenue Parking Structure (MAPS) and University Gateway Building. At the time, he helped establish shop drawings for the complex steel screening system on MAPS for McCarthy to fabricate in-house. Now Mauricio enjoys the challenge of designing and detailing the complex steel needs for each project that passes through Chandler Prefab.

Senior Project Manager John Gray then manages all scheduling and the unique challenge of balancing each project’s needs with its timelines and the shop’s capacity. He works with Project Manager Jason Ziance as a bridge between fabrication and infield erection to ensure the lifecycle of each project is executed as smoothly as possible.
Quality Manager Dave Baker then manages all regulatory and compliance measures for the team, keeping all welders up-todate on certifications. A Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Dave serves as the key to risk mitigation for such a critical operation.
With the support of countless talented professionals, this tightknit team has proudly embraced a spirit of entrepreneurialism and the grit to tackle some of the most complex projects.
What began under a shade canopy, with the support of key investments in technology and personnel, has become a defining capability for the company that allows McCarthy to build what others won’t, at a scale and speed few can match.

For the past four years, the Supervisory Training Program has been an important part of developing field leaders. In 2025, that commitment grew even stronger when the program officially moved in house. This shift was made possible through a partnership led by Amber Shepard and Andrea Ramos alongside the Associated General Contractors of America, allowing the program to be tailored specifically to the needs of our partners and projects.
The pilot program exceeded expectations. Twenty partners successfully completed the program, graduating with new tools, stronger confidence, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to lead on a jobsite. These graduates represent the future of our field leadership, bringing what they learned straight back to their teams and projects.
This first group of graduates helped prove that investing in our people pays off. Their commitment, engagement, and growth set the foundation for what this program will continue to become.
Congratulations to the inaugural in house Supervisory Training Program graduates. The impact of this achievement will be felt across our jobsites for years to come. Graduates are:

The Supervisory Training Program is a nationally recognized six course certificate program developed by the Associated General Contractors of America. For more than 130,000 construction supervisors and managers nationwide, this program has been the professional development standard for building strong, effective leaders.
The program focuses on the core skills every supervisor needs to manage people, time, equipment, and materials successfully. It is designed for anyone currently in or aspiring to a supervisory role on a construction jobsite.
What makes this program stand out is how it is delivered. Each course is highly interactive and activity based, using real jobsite scenarios, group discussions, case histories, and hands on exercises. Participants learn from one another and apply lessons directly to day to day operations.
At our company, the experience is further strengthened by instructors who are also McCarthy partners. Superintendents, managers, directors, legal, quality, safety, and field leaders bring real world perspective into the classroom. These shared experiences ensure the content is practical, relevant, and immediately useful in the field.

The end of the year is here and it’s time to reflect on the Employee-Manager Connection (EMC) conversations that move your career forward – Year in Review (YIR) and Goal-Setting.
The Year in Review process is open now through Jan. 30, 2026 in SuccessFactors. Partners can start the process by logging in and completing a self-evaluation by Dec. 30. This should include at what made 2025 meaningful for partners in terms of personal wins, lessons learned, new skills developed and more. This is a time to connect the dots, celebrate progress, and build a foundation of honest feedback from managers, mixed with recommended next steps.
During the Goal-Setting process, which opens Jan. 5, 2026 and runs through Feb. 27, 2026, partners will have another conversation with their managers to determine and highlight some focused and agreed-upon 2026 goals.
Both Year in Review and Goal-Setting conversations are separate and built to structure time, create clear pathways and help partners and managers prepare for meaningful discussions.
Dec. 2 through Jan. 30, 2026
• Partners complete evaluations in SuccessFactors during December to reflect on 2025 goals and performance.
• Managers schedule meetings to reflect on performance, giving/receiving constructive feedback, celebrating successes and inspiring growth.
Jan. 5 through Feb. 27, 2026
• Partners and managers add goals into SuccessFactors for 2026.
• Managers schedule conversations to align on goals and document them in SuccessFactors.
IMPORTANT: The goal-setting conversation should be kept separate from the Year in Review discussions. Goal-Setting nurtures alignment, sharpens focus, boosts productivity and builds motivation and purpose. Reviewing and adjusting goals together supports continuous improvement as roles and responsibilities evolve.
• Partners and managers add goals into SuccessFactors for 2026.
• Managers schedule conversations to align on goals and document them in SuccessFactors.
Schedule time now to discuss feedback, development, and goals; recognize great work; and set goals for the year ahead. Let’s continue to strengthen our connections and work toward our shared success.
