GOV. JIM PILLEN MAKES THE CASE FOR LB 1165 AND LB 847 BY DAISY HUTZELL-RODMAN

Jim Pillen is a veterinarian by trade and a businessman, having built a pork production operation that manages around 78,000 sows and markets about 2 million pigs annually. He’s also noted for believing that the government should be “run like a business.” That’s why, when he talks about government, he talks about investment, and he’s using that word deliberately. This spring, Pillen signed LB 1165 and LB 847, two laws he says he is particularly proud of as part of the legislature’s efforts to strengthen business in Nebraska. Pillen is also running for re-election, seeking a second term as the Republican incumbent against Democratic challenger Lynne Walz.

Grow the Good Life Act

LB 1165 offers tax credits of up to $50 million over 10 years to a qualifying large employer that merges with an out-of-state company provided it retains its Nebraska headquarters and most of its base-year workforce. The bill also creates a grant program to support employee retention and recruitment during a merger and allows PILLEN ON PAGE 06
