Words from the Chapter President Bro. Joesph Guillory Bro. Joesph Guillory

As we gather to commemorate this golden milestone — 50 years of brotherhood, leadership, and unwavering service in the beautiful 50th state — we give honor to the vision, sacrifice, and dedication of the founding brothers of the Mu Beta Lambda Chapter.

Since its inception in July 1975, this chapter has stood as a beacon of Alpha excellence in the Pacific, embodying our sacred aims of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind with a spirit as enduring as the lava flows of Kīlauea and as steadfast as the cliffs of Nā Pali.

In the heart of the Pacific, where cultures blend and aloha thrives, the brothers of Mu Beta Lambda have nurtured partnerships, mentored generations, and uplifted communities — carrying forward the torch lit by our Seven Jewels. We are reminded of the words of our brother, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who declared,

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”

For five decades, your answer has been clear: you have served. With dignity. With humility. With love.

You have exemplified the wisdom of Brother Thurgood Marshall, who once said, “In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute.” Tonight, we pay tribute to you — the men of Mu Beta Lambda — for recognizing that humanity in your service, and for living aloha through your commitment to justice, education, and empowerment.

As the Hawaiian proverb teaches us: “He ali‘i ka ‘āina; he kauwā ke kanaka.”

The land is chief; man is its servant. May we continue to serve our communities with honor, walk humbly in our calling, and rise boldly in our purpose — guided by the stars of Alpha, and grounded in the spirit of aloha.

Thank you to all that have joined and supported us and congratulations, Brothers. Here's to 50 more.

Message from Chapter Vice President

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Mu Beta Lambda Chapter, in the 50th state of Hawaii, we are filled with immense gratitude. We thank each and every one of you—both from the local community and from the mainland—for joining us at our gala and supporting our continued mission.

Your presence and generosity directly contributed to our scholarship efforts, allowing us to award three $1,500 scholarships to deserving high school graduates who are now on their path to college this fall. Together, we are investing in the next generation of leaders and scholars.

Rooted in the ideals of leadership, brotherhood, academic excellence, service, and advocacy, Mu Beta Lambda remains committed to our mission. As Brother Jewel Henry Arthur Callis so powerfully stated, “The chief significance of Alpha Phi Alpha lies in its purpose to stimulate, develop, and cement an intelligent, trained leadership in the unending fight for freedom, equality, and fraternity. Our task is endless.”

As we look toward the future, we carry this charge with pride and humility. Thank you for standing with us on this journey.

Aloha and Alpha Love, Mu Beta Lambda Chapter, Vice President, Bro Terrell Freeman

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

In 1984 Johnny Gill and Stacy Lattisaw sang a duet entitled, “Perfect Combination.”

The first two lines were:

“Two hearts together, we’re a harmony so right”

“Two sparks united we’re a fire burning bright”

Though this is a love song, it is reminiscent of the fire of Alpha Phi Alpha that burned in the hearts and minds of the 16, Mu Beta Lambda Charter members. This need to spread the light of Alpha Phi Alpha allowed these courageous Brothers to petition Alpha Phi Alpha National Headquarters to create our Alumni Chapter. On July 7th, 1975 Mu Beta Lambda was born, Today, May 24th, 2025, we celebrate together, the “Perfect Combination” of Paradise and Alpha.

We celebrate 50 years in our 50th State, Hawaii. We celebrate together, Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for all mankind.

We celebrate the Spirit of Aloha and Alpha.

As a Brother of Alpha Phi Alpha for 37 years and Chairman of the 50/50 Gala Committee, I thank everyone for attending and making this event happen.

I am delighted to join the Brothers of Mu Beta Lambda Chapter in commemorating our Golden Jubilee. First of all, we extend special recognition to the visionary Charter Brothers who erected a permanent monument of distinction in the middle of the Pacific dedicated to developing leaders, uplifting humanity, and impacting global societies through direct civic engagement, nurturing mentorship, and selfless service to all mankind. The Brothers of Mu Beta Lambda forged a towering legacy of commitment, fortitude, and tenacity that illuminated a beacon of excellence that extended beyond the Hawaiian Islands. Holding high the great light of Alpha Phi Alpha, they continuously honor the legacy of the past by transcending challenges of today and by rededicating themselves to greater achievements in an onward and upward trajectory. Today, we pay special tribute to all the brothers who have proudly earned the distinction of “Paradise Alpha.” In humble adoration, we tip our hat to the memory of those who now rest from their labors with our beloved Founders knowing that their legacies will live on in the hearts of the Brothers who now stand guard in this sacred “ICE COLD” light house of Alpha Phi Alpha. Well done, Brothers!

A Legacy of Service and Community

Over the past 50 years, Mu Beta Lambda has been on an incredible journey, organizing countless community service initiatives, mentorship programs, and educational workshops. Our mission? Enhance members’ leadership capabilities, support academic excellence, provide service, and advocate for the Oahu community through Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated’s programs, partnerships, and chapter initiatives. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our members, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones and developed strong, meaningful relationships within our community.

A Diverse Membership United by Purpose

Today, our membership reflects a rich tapestry of backgrounds, including active and retired military personnel, as well as professionals from a variety of fields like education, healthcare, business, and government. We proudly live by our motto: “First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All.” This powerful phrase embodies our commitment to making a real difference. As we move forward, Mu Beta Lambda is dedicated to addressing the ever-changing needs of Hawaii’s communities. Together, we focus on service, leadership, and advocacy, ensuring that the legacy of Alpha Phi Alpha continues to thrive and inspire.

A Personal Journey of Pride

Since joining Mu Beta Lambda in 2014, I have felt an immense sense of pride in what we’ve accomplished together. However, what truly fills my heart with joy is our Brother’s Keeper program. This initiative beautifully illustrates our commitment to supporting our elderly brothers, their spouses, and widows as they navigate the challenges that come with age. Our members are hands-on, helping to enhance the dignity and independence of our older brothers and their families. Whether it’s maintaining their living spaces, providing companionship, transportation, or ensuring they have access to essential supplies, we’re here for them every step of the way.

Looking to the Future

As we look ahead, it’s crucial for Mu Beta Lambda to expand its positive influence, especially by guiding young men through their high school years and into college and beyond. This focus is a top priority for us! We are also committed to partnering with other organizations, educational institutio , and industries to create solid pathways for success. Our dedication to this mission is strong ealized.

Together, we can make a lasting impact!

Bro. James Brown

In 1975, the vision and commitment of a dedicated group of men brought forth the establishment of the Mu Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Here we are, fifty years later, reflecting on a legacy of brotherhood, service, and achievement that continues to shape our community and inspire the next generation of leaders.

From the chapter’s early beginnings to its current standing as a beacon of excellence, Mu Beta Lambda has remained steadfast in upholding the ideals of Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind—principles that have guided the fraternity since its founding in 1906. The work of Mu Beta Lambda has always been rooted in fostering educational advancement, supporting local communities, and advocating for social change.

Throughout these fifty years, Mu Beta Lambda has cultivated a tradition of leadership, mentorship, and service. Our brothers have made profound impacts across various fields —education, business, politics, and the arts—embodying the core values of Alpha Phi Alpha while continuously striving to uplift those around us.

As we celebrate this monumental milestone, we honor the legacy of the men who laid the foundation for this chapter, as well as the countless brothers who have contributed to its success. The vision of the founding members has not only endured but thrived, strengthening bonds of brotherhood and expanding the chapter’s outreach through various programs aimed at improving the lives of others.

From our signature community service projects to our educational initiatives, Mu Beta Lambda continues to make an indelible mark on society. Whether it’s through our Go to High School, Go to College campaign, youth mentorship programs, or supporting local charitable organizations, we strive to live out the principles of Alpha Phi Alpha every day.

This 50th anniversary is not just a celebration of time passed but a reminder of our unwavering commitment to continue the work of those who came before us. As we reflect on our accomplishments, we also look forward to the future, determined to build on our rich history and further our impact for the next 50 years and beyond.
