What is Photography?

• The art and technique of capturing images using light and a camera.

What is Videography?

• The process of capturing moving images and sound to create video content. Differences & Similarities:

• Photography focuses on a single frame, while videography is a sequence of moving images.

• Both require an understanding of composition, lighting, and camera settings. Applications:

• Social media, journalism, filmmaking, advertising, weddings, events, and more.

Basic Photography Concepts

Camera Types:

• DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex)

• Mirrorless Cameras

• Smartphones & Action Cameras

Exposure Triangle:

1. Aperture (f-stop) – Controls the amount of light entering the lens.

2. Shutter Speed – Determines how long the sensor is exposed to light.

3. ISO – Adjusts the sensor’s sensitivity to light. Composition Techniques:

• Rule of Thirds – Placing subjects off-center for a balanced image.

• Leading Lines – Using lines in the scene to direct focus.

• Framing – Using natural elements to frame a subject.

Basic Videography Concepts

FRAME RATES & RESOLUTIONS:

• COMMON FRAME RATES:

• 24FPS (CINEMATIC LOOK)

• 30FPS (STANDARD VIDEO)

• 60FPS+ (SMOOTH MOTION, SLOW MOTION)

• RESOLUTIONS: 1080P (FULL HD), 4K, 8K

CAMERA MOVEMENTS:

• PANNING – MOVING THE CAMERA LEFT OR RIGHT.

• TRACKING – FOLLOWING A SUBJECT WITH MOVEMENT.

• HANDHELD VS. STABILIZED – USING TRIPODS, GIMBALS FOR STABILITY.

LIGHTING & AUDIO ESSENTIALS:

• NATURAL VS. ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING – UNDERSTANDING KEY LIGHT, FILL LIGHT, AND BACKLIGHT.

• MICROPHONES – SHOTGUN, LAVALIER, AND CONDENSER
