Make-A-Wish® MISSION Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. HISTORY Make-A-Wish was founded in 1980 in Phoenix, Arizona, when a small group of people helped a seven-year-old boy name Chris Greicius achieve his wish to be a police office for a day. Chris’ wish sparked a global movement that continues to deliver hope to children, families, and communities around the world. Since Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada’s founding in 1996, more than 2,600 wishes have been granted for children in the local community. Together with generous donors, supporters, and more than 34,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada and 58 other chapters throughout the U.S. have granted more than 340,000 wishes nationwide. WISH IMPACT* A Make-A-Wish experience truly helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing, and able to battle their illness. For many, it marks a turning point in their fight against their illnesses. Wishes are an important part of a child’s treatment journey. Wishes provide kids hope when they need it most, and research shows they have effects on children’s overall well-being and health outcomes. A recent study conducted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America in 2022 revealed the lasting, long-term impact a wish can have on children and families facing trauma stemming from a critical illness. Results showed after their child’s wish was granted, 94% of parents recalled seeing improvements in their child’s emotional well-being, while 91% of parents reported the wish gave their child a better chance of surviving their illness. Furthermore, 95% of pediatric doctors reported that the wish improved their patients’ emotional and physical well-being, with 75% of the doctors stating that a wish could improve a child’s medical outcomes. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope. That is why wishes matter. That is why we grant wishes.

Fashion Luncheon The Fashion Luncheon is a premier fundraising event, benefiting Make-A-Wish® Nevada. This highly anticipated event continues to sell out year over year. Since 2002, the Luncheon has raised over $9 million to grant wishes for deserving children in our community. This intimate luncheon is one of the most sought-after seats in town. The event annually sells out months in advance with a regular list of Las Vegas’ most fashionable women.
