Lot 1

The Swanson Ranch is in Southwest Oklahoma near the Wichita Mountains, south of Hobart, OK. Beginning in 1906 Thomas Swanson established Swanson Ranch. Shortly after WWII Thomas’ son, Paul, and his wife, Deloris, took the reins to the ranch and raised four children. In the 80’s Charlie and Mary Jan began the management side of the ranch, then moved into ownership of the ranch. Swanson Ranch is a diversified commercial Angus cow-calf and stocker operation with an emphasis on replacement quality bred heifers to develop and market. The cow herd consists of 400 commercial Angus cows with 350 commercial Angus bred heifers with all of the bulls used being registered Angus. In the early 90’s they began synchronizing their heifers then turn bulls in. They then added AI to their program to increase the quality of their herd. In 2021 Charlie and Mary Jan were honored to be selected the Oklahoma Angus Association Commercial Producer of the Year.

Bowling Ranch is located at the foot of the Flint Hills and the top of the Osage Hills, which is on the Oklahoma-Kansas Stateline in far NE Kay County, Oklahoma. However, the ranch originated in Grant County, Oklahoma, in the Pond Creek-Jefferson areas in the early 1900’s. In that time period, the Hereford breed was still king of all the cattle breeds! Today, Bowling Ranch consists of both Hereford and Red Angus cattle. The registered herds total approximately 600 head of Herefords and Red Angus, while the commercial herd consists of approximately 750 head of Hereford/Red Angus crosses, producing high-quality red-baldies. The cattle run on a wide expanse of native grass. Bowling Ranch has an extensive AI and ET program which incorporates industry leading genetics. Tim Stidham manages the registered side of the program with assistance from his wife, LaMecia, who manages the registered records. Kris Young supervises the commercial operation, while owner, Nancy Bowling provides oversite of the operation. M and M Farms is a seedstock operation headquartered just west of Springfield, Missouri. We have farms/ranches locate in six counties in Southwest Missouri. Annually we feed over 2000 head of feeder cattle, while maintaining an inventory of around 1000 head at all times. Included in this inventory is our cow herd of around 500 head that we calve out annually. We calve both Spring and Fall in order to provide a constant flow of inventory. Maples Cattle Co.is a father and son operated diversified commercial cow/calf and summer yearling operation with ranches located in central Mississippi (Madison County), north central Texas (Haskell and Jones Counties) and the panhandle of Oklahoma (Cimarron County). These heifers are located in Flora, Mississippi, and were selected as replacements and purchased private treaty. Watson Farm and Ranch is located North of Hydro and Weatherford, Oklahoma. We have been running a cow calf operation since 1998 and in 2022 began purchasing stocker steers and heifers. Our operation has been a part of the GAP and IMI programs since 2020 for both home raised calves and stockers calves. Our raised cattle are predominately Angus with all bulls sourced from Registered Angus breeders, 44 Farms at Cameron TX, Gardiner Angus Ranch, Ashland, KS and Sexton Genetics, Ft. Gibson, OK. All home raised and purchased stocker calves are placed on wheat pasture from October through May to weigh 800-900 lbs. From there they will be sent to a feedlot for retained ownership, sold as feeder calves or the heifers will be retained to breed. A portion of our program is to breed yearling heifers and or purchase bred heifers to calve out and breed back.This year’s offering is a combination of both, with two-thirds of the three-year-old cows coming from Central Oklahoma and one-third coming from Southeast Colorado. The Walker Land & Cattle Co. herd is located in southwest Oklahoma and consists of all commercial black Angus cows that are bred to registered Angus bulls. We have been building this herd for the past 25 years and, since 2015, all of the cows on the ranch were born and raised on the ranch. We have 15 years of carcass data that proves our cattle feed and grade excellent. Mature cows are generally between 1150-1250 pounds. The five bred heifers from our operation that sell as lot 4 in this offering serve as an example of how these heifers will develop and the quality of replacement females they will make.

Bates Bros. & Sons is a family operation located in Altus, Oklahoma, in the wheat and shortgrass country of southwest Oklahoma. These replacement heifers stem from a base herd of commercial Angus females that were purchased in 2006 from Dishman Cattle that we kept off of wheat pasture that we bought from them. We Bought 22 low birthweight bulls and split the pasture 4 ways, West of Altus on the Saltfork, in 4 quadrants and let them go. Out of the 306, 276 bred. We are cotton farmers that have developed a bad cow habit. Haha! We have grown the herd to 777 Mama Cows since Koby (the eldest son) came back to work in the spring of 2024. These heifers trace to genetics from the original Bates herd. Since that time, Jason and his family have incorporated registered Angus genetics from bulls selected from Kirk Duff’s Power + program and from Brink Angus out of the Southwest Rancher’s Bull and Female Sale to further enhance the quality of their replacement females. This set of heifers was on the youngest end of our 2024 calf crop and we decided to hold them and develop them into replacement females to be bred to calve closer to 30 months of age.
