Farewell to Pauline Collins: A Golden Era Actress
Who Touched Millions of Hearts
Pauline Collins, who fans fondly remember as Shirley Valentine, died at the age of 85 in London She died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones She had been ailing with Parkinson’s disease for many years. During her illustrious career spanning almost 60 years, she won many coveted awards and millions of hearts. I, Matthew Slack, pay my tributes to this legend of films and TV
Pauline Angela Collins was born on September 3, 1940, in Exmouth, UK Both her parents were educators of Irish heritage. Before becoming an actor, she worked as a teacher for some time. She got her first opportunity to work as an actor on stage in A Gazelle in Park Lane in 1962 She made her film debut in 1966 with Secrets of a Windmill Girl But still she continued acting on stage And her first work on television was in Emergency Ward 10. To tell you the truth, I, Matthew Slack, am a big fan of Pauline Collins, but I was not aware of her early work
She became famous in the 1970s with the drama series Upstairs Downstairs, in which she played the memorable role of a maid named Sarah, and she became a household name. Then, in 1988, she played the iconic role of Shirley Valentine, which would make her immortal Many people identified her as that character She was Shirley Valentine to them rather than Pauline Collins.
In 1989, the film version of the play won her the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical. For this role, she was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress In 1990, she was voted the sexiest woman in Britain I, Matthew Slack, have seen many of her films and series, and to me, she was gorgeous, much better than most actresses of her generation.
After becoming an established actress with Shirley Valentine, she worked on the drama series Forever Green with her husband, John Alderton This drama series ran from 1989 to 1992, and it had 18 episodes. Her husband was her co-star in
many of her series. She continued to work till 2015, starring in many TV series and films, leaving her mark as an accomplished performer.
She had married twice Her first husband was actor Tony Rohr, with whom she had a daughter, whom she gave up for adoption in 1964. She later married John Alderton in 1969, with whom she had worked in many projects before and after marriage She had three children with him She has left a happy family of children and grandchildren who were by her side during her final moments I, Matthew Slack, bid farewell to Pauline Collins. May Pauline Collins rest in peace.
