At Master Builders of Iowa, we believe that our industry is not just about concrete and steel - it’s about people, purpose, and building something greater than ourselves. As we unveil our 20262030 Strategic Plan, we do so with deep respect for the legacy of leadership that has brought us here, and with an unwavering commitment to shape the future of Iowa’s construction industry.

This plan is not just a roadmap - it’s a rallying call.

We are facing a unique moment in our history. The construction workforce is evolving. Member expectations are changing. Challenges like wellness, field leadership gaps, and workforce shortages demand bold solutions. And across the state, from urban centers to rural communities, our members are asking for greater access, deeper engagement, and stronger advocacy.

In response, this plan outlines four ambitious, member-driven pillars:

Each pillar is backed by tangible goals, measurable outcomes, and initiatives that reflect your voice. From expanding our MBI BuildHer program to embedding wellness in all training, from launching tech-forward field education to building bridges beyond Des Moines - we are setting a course to lead boldly.

Why is this plan so important? Because our industry’s future depends on it.

This strategy represents who we are becoming. It holds us accountable to innovation, excellence and YOU. It ensures that this organization is responsive to the industry regardless of location, while remaining the go-to resource for safety, advocacy, leadership, and development.

Master Builders of Iowa will establish itself as the central hub for advocacy, education, and resources to support workforce development by:

Unifying and elevating Iowa’s construction industry voice.

Building a resilient, well-trained, and wellness-focused workforce.

Enhancing engagement opportunities to all members, including subcontractors and field staff.

Driving innovation in education, safety, technology, and member engagement.

Establishing CSSI as the premiere safety solution for the construction industry while also being well positioned to be a reliable safety resource for a multitude of other industries.

Workforce Development & Career Pathways stands at the heart of our 2030 strategic vision. By attracting new talent, nurturing individual potential, and building meaningful career journeys, we are investing in people—the most powerful foundation of our industry’s success.

Attract traditional and non-traditional entrants to construction career pathways.

Develop transformational education and leadership programs that prepare people and companies for the demands of the commercial building industry as we move into the next decade.

Embed 8 Dimensions of Wellness into the culture of the Iowa Commercial Building Industry.

Launch wellness education resource hub, as well as events and activities focused on wellness.

Recognize companies leading in wellness and offer an industry-wide Employee assistance Program offering.
