T
his richly illustrated social history of the smaller settlements around Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour ranges from the pilot and signal station at Waitata Little Port Cooper to the lighthouse community at Awaroa Godley Head. Historically they were connected with each other and the harbour by their jetties, which were both vital transport infrastructure and a focus of life around the harbour. Living between Land and Sea offers insights into the lives of Māori communities and Pākehā settlers from the 19th century onwards in this special part of Aotearoa New Zealand.
