SAFESPORT ABUSE PREVENTION TRAINING SAFESPORT ABUSE PREVENTION TRAINING

REQUIRED FOR ADULT ATHLETES & REQUIRED FOR ADULT ATHLETES & ENCOURAGED FOR PARENTS AND MINOR ENCOURAGED FOR PARENTS AND MINOR ATHLETES ATHLETES

What: Adult Athletes (Players 18+) playing on a team with Minor Athletes must take the SafeSport Abuse Prevention 90-minute Core Training.

Who: Athletes that are 18 years old or will turn 18 during a current playing season and play on a team with minor athletes. Players who are currently 17 years old are encouraged to take the training with parental consent to ensure there isn’t a break in play.

When: Before they turn 18 (with parental consent) or when they turn 18, but before they start practicing with their teammates that are under 18.

Where: Contact your club’s administrator to request the U.S. Soccer SafeSport Training Link and Enrollment Key

* In addition, Adult Athletes are now considered Mandatory Reporters. If you know or suspect child abuse, you are required to report it to law enforcement and the Center for SafeSport, and to follow any additional state law requirements.

Note: An adult athlete is not an under 18 coach/assistant coach

SafeSport is a comprehensive program of policies, procedures, and processes created to help participants detect and report abuse and misconduct, respond to it, and prevent future occurrences through education and training.

The United States Congress (federal law) and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), U.S. Soccer and Mass Youth Soccer Policy.

SafeSport Abuse Prevention Training (Yearly Requirement) - There are very few exceptions on who must complete SafeSport Abuse Prevention training, click HERE for to review those exceptions.

U.S. Center for SafeSport Reporting Requirements – There are no exceptions to this other than being the victim of abuse. Adult Participants are Mandated Reporters of Child Abuse and are also required to report all Sexual Misconduct, Prohibited Conduct, and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) violations as outlined in the U.S. Center for SafeSport 2024 Code and MAAPP. Additional important policy information is also found in the MA Youth Soccer Athlete and Participant Safety Policy.
