Both as a surgeon and chair of the Colorectal Multidisciplinary Team and as a longtime donor and ambassador, I’ve had the privilege to be part of and work closely with Mary Bird Perkins - Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center. Together we’ve been able to offer cancer patients comprehensive, leadingedge treatment with positive outcomes. I know that my own patients have benefited greatly from the compassionate care and expert treatment the Cancer Center has provided them. Even though I treat colorectal cancer everyday, experiencing the impact of the disease firsthand has intensified my desire to help improve care and outcomes to the very best of my ability. Five years ago, cancer directly affected my own family. My sister Jill, who lived out-of-state, was diagnosed with a very advanced form of rectal cancer at age 48. After a valiant fight that included multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and even experimental treatments, she succumbed in 2013 at age 52. Honoring the memory of Jill and her courageous struggle, I, along with my wife Lauren, an internal medicine physician, will once again offer time and support to the Cancer Center this year in order to help enhance what is an already superb institution. Today, with the dedicated support of our community, more citizens have access to high-quality cancer care than ever before. Yet the battle is far from over. The vision of becoming the Gulf South’s leading cancer care destination has set a clear path to follow as our community moves further into the 21st century. This vision sharpens our collective focus on resolutely taking the fight forward in order to achieve the goals set forth in the following pages. As the Cancer Center works toward realizing its vision of becoming the Gulf South’s destination for comprehensive care, the Adameks agree that now is the time to partner with even greater resolve. “Lisa and I believe that in addition to our annual donation, a transformational major gift to Mary Bird Perkins - Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center can help provide much-needed resources and support to more cancer patients than any other program in Louisiana,” says Tom. “It’s an important contribution to the battle against cancer that’s needed today – right here where we live and work.”

WHY PURPLE? When Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center (MBPCC) and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOL) formed an even closer partnership in order to provide top-flight cancer care to surrounding communities, it was decided that the new Cancer Center color would reflect our joint efforts by combining the colors representative of each institution. The blue representing OLOL was blended with the MBPCC crimson red to create purple – a fitting symbol of our unity and passionate resolve in taking the fight forward against cancer in our community and beyond.
