Blaine Ochoa, our gorgeous new Miss Houston 2019, breaths the spirit of passion and ecstasy of our city and all the high standards it stands for.

For her, it all started as a young girl, with a passion for modeling, fashion, acting and singing. Her first steps were in modeling while in college. She completed acting classes and also pursued a career in acting and performing.

But as always, the road to success wasn't easy. She competed twice before for the Miss Houston crown, twice ending on the top two finalists. But 2019 was her year. This third attempt proved once again that faith and perseverance pays off, as she finally won the coveted crown at age 25.

The way Blaine is leaving this extraordinary experience leaves a legacy for anyone who is willing to do all it takes to finally live a dream. If you can dream it, you can live it out and see it come to life. Her younger brother and sister, as well as her parents, are just as excited as she is. They have supported her career, and now celebrate with her.

Blaine Ochoa has a very exotic look. Her background is a blend of Latina from her father side of the family, and Irish and Greek from her mother's.

Blaine has a BA in Communication Studies from Texas State University, and is a professional in the media industry. She works for KBMT 12 News in Beaumont, TX, as an Advertising Account Executive, and is also an on-air contributor. She is the founder of the inspirational and helpful beauty and health blog, “Beauty With Blaine”. Beauty With Blaine has been seen in a variety of media outlets including TV, Print, and Radio. It is also a weekly featured segment for KHEA Radio 99.5 FM. She is also a featured writer for Bay Area Houston Magazine.

The new beauty queen is also pursing a career in the music and entertainment business as a professional recording artist. Traveling, health and fitness, Salsa dancing, and giving back to the community are some of her passions. She enjoys being involved with local charities and organizations. She has volunteered with the Sky High for Kids organization and was on the 2018 & 2019 Ladies Who Brunch committee. She has also volunteered with the Delta Gamma Foundation, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The Perfect Connection benefiting Autism Awareness, and was on the Arthritis Foundation of Houston’s 2018 and currently the 2019 Bone Bash Committee. Blaine has also spent time volunteering and doing mission work in Johannesburg, South Africa. Her mission trip to South Africa inspired her passion to create a platform that gives back and helps children through sponsorship with providing education and food, which she is currently evolving and forming into a charity project.

Blaine is eager to compete for Miss Texas, last week of June.

DE REYNOSA A LOS PINOS

Habiendo crecido en McAllen, en la frontera con México, con almuerzos regulares los domingos en el restaurante Sam's en el cercano Reynosa, tuvimos oportunidad de viajar por todo México, y así México se convirtió en parte de mi ADN.

Eso ciertamente me llevó a centrar mi carrera legal en América Latina, principalmente México, y finalmente a limitar mi práctica de derecho internacional para centrarme exclusivamente en las leyes de inmigración de los Estados Unidos. Tuve la suerte de que, con el tiempo, mi práctica legal me permitió trabajar en asuntos legales y políticos que afectan las relaciones entre Estados Unidos y México, lo que me brindó la oportunidad de viajar a México de manera regular a lo largo de los años, y brindándome incluso el privilegio de reunirme con tres presidentes mexicanos en Los Pinos.

El año pasado reconocí que las elecciones del 1º de julio de 2018 serían, para bien o para mal, históricas, con la elección de Andrés Manuel López Obrador como presidente de México, así como un gran número de sus nuevos candidatos del partido Morena. Así, mi familia y yo nos quedamos en el Gran Hotel de la Ciudad de México, con una vista panorámica del Zócalo la noche de las elecciones. Observamos todo desde el restaurante La Terraza con una vista perfecta del Zócalo. Cuando un buen amigo de la campaña de AMLO me notificó que éste se dirigía al Zócalo, mis dos hijos y yo nos unimos a la multitud en celebración de este momento histórico.

Con la inauguración de AMLO el 1º de diciembre, existe un consenso emergente de que éste se centrará en mejorar la situación de los pobres de una manera sin precedentes.

Sin embargo, a algunos ciudadanos mexicanos, dado el extraordinario poder de AMLO con su partido Morena que cuenta con mayorías absolutas en ambas cámaras del Congreso, les preocupa que, con el tiempo, tales políticas puedan afectar a México económicamente y, por lo demás, de manera imprevista.

Si bien es prematuro sacar esas conclusiones, para los muchos ciudadanos mexicanos que en su preocupación ya están considerando opciones para residir y trabajar en los Estados Unidos, este artículo va a serles útil en una actualización de las opciones, que aunque limitadas, son no obstante viables, de opciones legales para residir en los Estados Unidos.

Para la mayoría de los ciudadanos mexicanos que leen este artículo, a lo largo de sus vidas habrán tenido múltiples visas de turista B-1 / B-2 o tarjetas de "paso de frontera" o "permisos" que les han dado la facilidad de visitar los Estados Unidos en cualquier momento. Sin embargo, esta es una bendición de doble filo, ya que también puede llevar a cierta complacencia y creencia de que en caso de que se desarrolle una situación adversa en México, podrán mudar a su familia y hasta cierto punto su fortuna a los Estados Unidos en cualquier momento. Pero la realidad es que tener la relativa facilidad de ingresar como visitante puede ser engañoso.

Uno puede ser admitido como visitante solo por seis meses y mientras que el estado B-1 / B-2 puede extenderse y uno puede regresar de vez en cuando como visitante, existen serias limitaciones. El Inspector de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza (CBP) de los Estados Unidos, puede en el aeropuerto determinar en algún momento que un ciudadano mexicano que se queda por un

período prolongado utilizando la visa de visitante B-1 / B-2, se ha convertido en un residente "de facto". El Inspector de CBP, en tal caso, tiene la autoridad de cancelar la visa de visitante en el aeropuerto de entrada, detener al ciudadano mexicano que busca reingresar a los Estados Unidos, y devolverlo a México sin el debido proceso.

Adicionalmente, si uno traslada a su familia a este país con una visa de visitante y enrola a sus hijos en escuelas públicas, ese acto de por sí solo podría llevar a una determinación de la CBP de que uno o ambos padres cometieron fraude de visa, resultando en una "remoción acelerada" de los Estados Unidos con una prohibición de cinco años de regresar al país.

En vista de estos riesgos, las siguientes opciones de visa están disponibles para los ciudadanos mexicanos que deseen mudarse a los Estados Unidos si AMLO y Morena generan preocupación.

1. FAMILIAR

Con un ciudadano de los Estados Unidos o un residente de la familia residente legal permanente inmediato o cercano (tal como un cónyuge, padre, hijo adulto o un hermano), se puede calificar con el tiempo para la residencia permanente legal ("LPR", por sus siglas en inglés) o el estado de "tarjeta verde"; sin embargo, el proceso podría llevar un año o mucho más. La mayoría preferiría una opción más rápida, lo que significa un estado de visa de no inmigrante de los Estados Unidos, que le permitiría a uno vivir y trabajar en el país y que los niños asistan a la escuela pública como un derecho relacionado.

2. E-1 / E-2 - TRATADO DE COMERCIANTE/INVERSIONISTA NO INMIGRANTE.

En virtud del Acuerdo del NAFTA y, cuando se ratifique, bajo el nuevo Acuerdo EE.UU.-México-Canadá (USMCA), los ciudadanos mexicanos pueden calificar como inversores E-2 del Tratado de No Inmigrantes que normalmente sería una visa de trabajo de cinco años de duración indefinidamente renovable; para los mexicanos, la visa se emite solo por un período de un año, basado en una inversión sustancial en los Estados Unidos en un negocio nuevo o ya existente. La palabra "sustancial" no está claramente definida, pero normalmente significaría una inversión de al menos $150,000 a $200,000 dólares en una empresa de propiedad mayoritaria que ofrezca al menos dos o tres empleados o con un valor similar de comercio anual. Debe enfatizarse que esos son números mínimos, y que cuanto mayor sea la inversión o el comercio, y el número de empleados, tanto mejor.

Las ventajas de una visa de no inmigrante E-1 / E-2 es que el cónyuge es elegible para trabajar y se puede obtener dentro de un período de varios meses, mientras que en la mayoría de los casos, para obtener LPR (la opción anterior) puede tomar un período de al menos uno a dos años La desventaja es que, como en otras clasificaciones, solo puede incluir a los hijos solteros, menores de 21 años.

3. L-1A - TRANSFERENCIA DE ACOMPAÑANTE

NO-INMIGRANTE DENTRO DE UNA COMPAÑÍA

Para el ciudadano mexicano que tiene un negocio viable en México con ingresos y empleados suficientes, y si tiene buen sentido comercial, se podría establecer una filial o compañía afiliada de los Estados Unidos, de propiedad mayoritaria, y obtener una visa de no inmigrante L-1A, con la posibilidad de obtener una visa de trabajo como gerente por hasta siete años. El propio negocio de los Estados Unidos tendría que ser viable en términos de ingresos y empleados al final del primer año de operaciones. Lo más importante es que la opción L-1A también crea la base para solicitar LPR como gerente de la entidad en los Estados Unidos. Siempre que sea viable en términos de ingresos y número de empleados. El cónyuge también está autorizado para trabajar.

4. TRATADO NAFTA

Bajo NAFTA / USMCA, es posible calificar para el así llamado Tratado NAFTA o TN Comercial, asumiendo que uno tiene una oferta de trabajo de buena fe en los Estados Unidos que normalmente requiere una licenciatura de cuatro años que figura en el Anexo 16 de NAFTA.

El empleador en los Estados Unidos podría ser una compañía de este país o una compañía propiedad del ciudadano mexicano.

5. OTRAS OPCIONES DE VISA DE NO INMIGRANTE PATROCINADAS POR EL EMPLEADOR DE LOS EE.UU.

Un empleador de los Estados Unidos puede, el 1º de abril de cada año, presentar una solicitud de visa de trabajo de tres años H-1B para profesionales, aunque existe un número limitado de estas visas. Un empleador puede también presentar una petición O-1 para extranjeros con habilidades extraordinarias.

A largo plazo, existen las siguientes opciones legales para calificar para LPR, que incluyen el cónyuge y los hijos solteros menores de 21 años, ya sea directamente o después de adquirir el estatus de visa de trabajo no inmigrante de los EE. UU.

6. GERENTE MULTINACIONAL EB-1C

Además de calificar a través de la familia, uno podría calificar para LPR como se indicó anteriormente, mediante el empleo en su propia entidad en los Estados Unidos. Como gerente bajo la clasificación EB-1C, cuyos requisitos son muy similares a los que califican para el estatus de L-1, se requiere una afiliación con una compañía mexicana, y que ambas compañías sean viables en términos de empleados e ingresos.

7. CERTIFICACIÓN DE EMPLEO PERMANENTE (PERM)

Un ciudadano mexicano puede calificar para LPR a través de la Certificación de Empleo Permanente (PERM) por un posible empleador de los Estados Unidos que demuestre ante el Departamento de Trabajo de los EE. UU. que no ha hallado aplicantes calificados y disponibles en el país. Calificar para PERM es una forma altamente predecible para obtener LPR. Sin embargo, el proceso podría llevar de un año y medio a dos años y, por lo tanto, la necesidad de una planificación avanzada.

8. VISA DE INVERSIONISTA EB-5

Afortunadamente, para los ciudadanos mexicanos sin un miembro de la familia calificado en los Estados Unidos, o un prospecto empleador de los Estados Unidos, o que no tenga el deseo de comenzar y operar un negocio en este país, existe una manera relativamente simple y altamente predecible de calificar para LPR, a través del EB -5.

Este programa de Inversionistas, a pesar de las incertidumbres en Washington, continuará vigente. Hoy en día, es posible calificar para LPR para el inversionista y su familia inmediata haciendo una inversión de $500,000, y que en realidad puede ser un préstamo "de facto" a cinco años. En algún momento, el Congreso aumentará la inversión mínima a por lo menos $1,000,000.

El programa del Centro Regional EB-5 puede ser una forma segura y altamente predecible de adquirir LPR ya que el ciudadano mexicano tendría la opción de invertir en un proyecto del Centro Regional con aprobaciones de inmigración anteriormente establecidas, y donde el desarrollador es una entidad conocida, altamente calificada, exitosa y solvente. Por lo tanto, existe una alta probabilidad de que uno no solo adquiera su LPR para sí mismo y los miembros de su familia inmediata, sino que también tiene una alta probabilidad de recuperar su inversión, normalmente con una tasa de rendimiento baja. Dado que la opción EB-5 tomaría al menos 18 a 24 meses, es importante que uno comience a planificarla lo antes posible a fin de desarrollar la mejor estrategia y comenzar a implementarla.

70th Anniversary Vacuum Tube Amplifier

The MC2152 70th Anniversary Vacuum Tube Amplifier is a 150 Watt per channel stereo amplifier and features a striking new design to honor seven decades of handcrafting some of the best home audio equipment the world has ever heard. While its design is new, the MC2152 incorporates the lessons learned and techniques invented through 70 years of audio engineering.

Utilizing a patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer technology – the same technology the company was founded on in 1949 – the full 150 Watts can be delivered to almost any pair of speakers regardless if they have 2, 4 or 8 Ohm impedance.

The stunning new design of the MC2152 is highlighted by a bead blasted black anodized aluminum chassis accentuated with matte finish carbon fiber side panels. The front panel showcases a backlit laser cut McIntosh logo flanked by classic McIntosh knobs. The vacuum tubes are covered by a 12-gauge stainless steel wire cage with a black powder coated finish. To the back are the two Unity Coupled Output Transformers with the power transformer centered between them. All three transformers are housed in glass topped extruded enclosures displaying the wiring diagram for each transformer. A 70th Anniversary badge is laser engraved into the top plate of the enclosures.

The MC2152 uses eight KT88 output vacuum tubes plus eight small signal tubes comprised of four 12AX7A and four 12AT7 vacuum tubes; half of the tube complement is as-

signed to each audio channel. The 12AX7A vacuum tubes are for the Balanced and Input amps, while the 12AT7 tubes are for the Voltage and Driver amps. The LEDs under the eight small signal tubes can be set to three illumination settings: Off (which allows the tubes natural amber glow to be visible), Green or Blue – a new color option unique to the MC2152. Our Sentry Monitor™ technology monitors the output current and shuts the amplifier off if it ever exceeds safe limits.

On the back are both balanced and unbalanced inputs, along with our patented Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts to securely connect your speaker cables, and an input and output for our Power Control technology that will automatically turn other connected McIntosh components on and off.

For Dr. Maisa M. Idriss, moving from General Dentistry to Cosmetic Dentistry was a natural transition, considering the fact that she owns her own in-house lab. The Houston-based, state-of-the-art and prestigious laboratory produces Dentures, implant restorations, Veneers/Crowns and everything a dental office of any specialty may ever need, serving hundreds of dental practices across Texas and the country. As Doctor Idriss explains, dental school only offers dentists very basic education. This is a reality in any field, so she has continued enhancing her education and expertise through a variety of courses.

Cosmetic dentistry became a popular trend in the 90’s. Today, although cosmetic dentistry is highly advanced, there is, like in everything else, plenty of opportunity for further development.

Doctor Idriss is a true believer in educating her patients, as there are a lot of misconceptions, especially with teeth. Today there is a big movement in the country where people want “piano-keys” artificial looking teeth or the “Hollywood smile”. This is a very distorted picture of reality. For her the key is “how can I make my patients’ new teeth feel and look as natural as they can be?” Of course - as Doctor Idriss wisely puts it - “We are not the Creator, so producing totally natural looking teeth is a big challenge and can be very difficult.” She likes to compare her work to a piece of art, where the painter or the sculptor tries to make his piece as natural and real as possible. This is the reason Dr. Idriss is not a big fan of putting “fake teeth”, so white and so unnatural that they are immediately noticed for all the wrong reasons. For her it actually becomes a matter of educating patients in regards to color, shape and materials, so that they can understand what people will see every time they smile. But of course, at the end of the day, it all comes down to her patient’s personal preference and choice.

After graduating with honors from the University of California in 1989, Dr. Maisa M. Idriss pursued her dental studies at Tufts University of Boston graduating in 1993. Nine years later she advanced her education from general dentistry to cosmetics and transitioned to this new and exciting field in 2002. Her education in complete mouth reconstruction, rehab and TMJ (temporomandibular joint syndrome) took place at The Dawson Academy, a prestigious institution for neuromuscular dentistry.

A self-proclaimed “architect of the smile,” Dr. Idriss considers it her personal mission to customize smiles. We see in today’s society the massive increase in plastic and cosmetic enhancements at all levels; we can also see that people almost don’t care how unnatural they may look. But Doctor Idriss does care. She makes it an important point to advice patients so that they make a very educated decision. And this is probably one of the things they love about her. This particular point raises her standards to the highest level, and when you reach that top standard, is when you see the most rewarding and satisfactory results. But Dr. Idriss doesn’t stop there: she will go above and beyond what her patients expect. That is the ultimate.

This brings them to another point: patients are conscious that they have nothing to worry about, as they come to understand that an expert is doing all the thinking for them. Reaching that is wonderful, and she’s known for that.

Many of her patients are re-makes. It’s not that uncommon that a person undergoes a dental restoration and the outcome didn’t turn out to be what they expected. This can be due to many reasons, including a denture that with time has aged.

Many of Doctor Idriss’ patients come to her with all kinds of pathological problems. But the goal is to make sure that as she resolves them, the final outcome also looks good.

For a mouth to be fully functional combined with a smile that looks fabulous, there are a lot of factors to keep into consideration: teeth must be not too big, not to long, not too short, not too forward, not too back; is the three-dimensional position of the teeth correct? Does

the mouth feel natural when you talk and comfortable when you bite? Does your smile show a natural profile? Are the corners of your lips developing wrinkles, or the lower jaw is out of place in relationship to the upper one? These are just a few of the many considerations a prominent cosmetic dentist must look into with every patient.

Doctor Idriss explained that there is a formula to a human smile. If you measure it and do it mathematically, there is a formula in dentistry called “The Golden Proportion”. This is a scientific “blueprint” for a perfect smile in any human being. She follows these golden rules, which brings you to understand that the front six teeth of the upper jaw are the first determining factor for every smile. They are followed by the front teeth in the lower jaw, and once they are in perfect position, you start from there going towards the back.

We also spoke about materials, and the difference between what is used in dentures versus other restorations. For dentures, the required material is porcelain. Doctor Idriss uses at her lab a porcelain composite hybrid that merges the teeth perfectly into the acrylic base and simulates the look of natural teeth.

Nowadays technology allows for digitalization of the entire reconstruction process. Very little is left to manual processes. Computer technology, combined with the scanning of the mouth, creates the entire new mouth in a virtual form, from which you convert it into the actual material. Quite an amazing process that allows the highest accuracy. The distortion factor has been completely eliminated. This technology results in better dentists.

Of course, professionals need to become proficient in mastering the use of technology, but the end result is a much more precise and beautiful . So now dentists are being forced to move in that direction, which is a much better one.

Dentistry is also moving toward longevity and maintenance. Her philosophy is to make teeth that feel good, look good, and last for as long as they can last. As a matter of fact, by following that direction, there is no more dentistry needed for patients, other than just maintenance. That is great news!

Our conversation took us into considering also the reality that our lifestyle is not the best to healthy teeth. We live in an environment that is quite polluted. We are now in the worst diet ever in human history, with processed foods, excessive sugar and bad habits such as soft drinks, smoking, drugs and many other things that are destroying our mouths.

People are more ill than ever before. Hypertension and diabetes are examples of conditions that have a direct impact into oral health. We now have a combination of factors such as dietary, illnesses and habits, which force us to be better dentists to serve the new challenges today patients are facing.

There are two ways of conducting dentistry: You can focus on one thing, and one thing only. Or you can do comprehensive care and resolve the most urgent issue at hand, but at the same time take care of everything else. “I fall into the latter category – Dr. Idriss explains - but then again, I have to respect my patient’s wishes. If they just want that one tooth to be taken care of, that’s what I’ll do. But I will definitely point out to them any other issues

I may see and make my recommendations. I help them make better choices.”

Patients from 1998 are still her patients. And they come back because they have learned through Dr. Idriss’ directions that they don’t lose teeth anymore. That’s the measure patients use to understand she is all they want in a dentist.

My last question was about the future of dentistry. Of course, existing products keep on improving and new products continue to become available. But what right now appears to be the next big thing is 3D printing of dentures. Just imagine uploading your impression into the software and printing your entire denture in one single piece.

Another interesting advancement is with Zirconia, the material used for implant/veneer/ crown restorations. It is as strong as steel, but it doesn’t look natural. Now they are coming up with new improved Zirconia that looks incredibly natural.

HAT IS A FACELIFT AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

hen it comes to the gold standard for treating the signs of aging in the face, there is a lot of confusing information out there about facelifts. It seems that every week there is a new technique or treatment touting to be a way to non-surgically lift the face. For some individuals, some of these may be viable alternatives like the EmbraceRF system. Unfortunately, many of these less invasive options do little more than lighten the wallet.

To understand what a facelift can do, it is important to understand what the word facelift actually means. The Greek word for wrinkle is “rhytid.” The suffix -ectomy means “to remove.” Thus, rhytidectomy is the medical term for the operation designed to remove or lift wrinkles and sagging tissues from the forehead, face, and neck. The term “face lift” is often used incorrectly in the media. This may be to help market some new fad or it can be used to describe a total facial rejuvenation, which, in reality, consists of an eyelid surgery, a face lift, and possibly skin resurfacing. While a true face lift provides the foundation for the rejuvenation process, other procedures may add the finishing touches. By no means, however, does this mean that every patient who requests a face lift should have any additional procedures.

Why does the face begin to droop and sag? The changes associated with aging do not occur all at once. They happen in a slowly progressive manner, involve all components of the face and body, and at different rates in different people. Patients frequently first become aware of the changes related to aging in their mid-thirties which becomes more noticeable over a 2-4 year period in their early forties. They often say that it seems as though things were holding up well and seemed to “fall” almost overnight. This is never truer than following a period of prolonged stress which, along with sun exposure and smoking, are known to advance the aging process. The best example of this is to think how much the presidents seem to age over their terms in office.

With aging, the facial bones become slightly smaller, some fat is absorbed and other fat sags, and the skin loses much of its elasticity which used to keep it tight. This causes the tissues, particularly in the face and neck, to droop and sag. This phenomenon results in a series of events, including deepening of the lines of facial expression in the forehead

and at the sides of the mouth, sagging of the eyebrows which causes the eyes to appear smaller and tired, “crow’s feet” form at the corners of the eyes, pouches or jowls develop along the jaw line, and the well-known “double-chin” develops as a result of a new fatty tissue deposit in this area. At the same time, the skin also shows its age. In some faces the skin becomes etched with wrinkles. This frequently occurs in those repetitively exposed to the sun and wind as the damage to the skin is cumulative. The muscles and tissues around the eyes eventually lose some of their tone so that a portion of the fat normally located inside the orbit around the eye bulges forward, or herniates, to produce the commonly seen “bags.” This condition is often seen in younger people before many of the other signs of aging have developed. “Circles” under the eyes may be a result of a shadow falling in the crease between these bags and the cheek. Finally, because of absorption of tissues in the upper lip and gums, the lips become thinner and the tip of the nose drops causing it to appear larger and longer. A face lift is designed to counteract many of these forces by lifting the tissues and restoring them to their more youthful position. This includes not only lifting the skin but more importantly the underlying muscles and fatty tissues. It is important to realize that a face lift does not correct problems in the upper or lower eyelids, or the wrinkles or creases in the lips—other treatments are required for these conditions.

When is the best time to consider facial cosmetic surgery? The best answer is when the slack in the skin of the face and neck or “bags” around the eyes are no longer temporary conditions relieved by rest, or when they become increasingly difficult to camouflage with cosmetics. There is no magical age when people should be considering surgery. Younger patients around age forty contemplate surgery to help prevent the advancement of aging, i.e., to help them to appear to stay young. For others the right time may not be until the signs of aging have advanced in their fifties and sixties and later. For these patients surgery helps reverse these more advanced signs of aging to improve their face and skin giving a younger and more rested look.

As the life expectancy lengthens, most people feel vigorous and energetic long after their appearance begins to change as a result of advancing age. The emotional impact of looking older than one feels can be disconcerting and facial plastic surgery can bring your looks and how you feel back into harmony. Because of this, the face lift has become one of the most popular cosmetic operations performed in the head and neck. Men and women from all walks of life are seeking ways to look as good as they feel. As facial experts, treatment by a facial plastic surgeon can produce “natural” and “un-operated” looks.

The operation itself may be divided into three parts: the forehead or eyebrow lift (the upper one-third), the cheek lift (the middle one-third), and the neck lift (the lower one-third). The Chile Relleno, which originated in the 1800’s in the state of Puebla Mexico, is one of the more important dishes to traditional Mexican cooking. Our Executive Sous Chef, Gonzalo Campos, grew up in Puebla and remembers the care that was given to this dish as each family had their own style.

We fill ours with lean wild boar and fresh Oaxaca cheese. Chef Campos remembers many times the chiles were filled with what was available in each family’s garden. Campos tells tales of the family’s outings to the field to harvest fruits, vegetables and wild game for supper, and what was not used in the main dish was used to fill chiles as an accompaniment. ¡Buen Provecho!

Es cierto que por todo el mundo existen lugares paradisíacos y playas de ensueño. Solamente en Estados Unidos hay líneas costeras de extraordinaria belleza, y ni que hablar de México y todo el Caribe, Centro y Sudamérica. Y lo mismo podemos decir de Australia, Europa, Asia y Africa. De hecho, muchos de estos lugares están tan escondidos al conocimiento público que no pueden aún ser disfrutados por muchos

BAIA DO SANCHO, FERNANDO DE NORONHA, BRASIL

La mejor playa de las Américas

Con vastas rocas negras, vegetación verde densa, bahías y calas que acarician las aguas cristalinas, Baia do Sancho te hace sentir que estás en un lugar mágico, fuera de este mundo. Fernando de Noronha es un archipiélago brasileño compuesto por 21 islas, a 217 millas de Natal, reconocido por la UNESCO como Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Hay 26 playas paradisíacas y desiertas, y Baía do Sancho es considerada la mejor playa de las Américas. El acceso a la playa no es fácil pero la recompensa no tiene precio.

Las inmensas paredes de rocas volcánicas están rodeadas por un suave oleaje de olas turquesas, árboles, pájaros y flores. Puedes sumergirte en las aguas y bucear entre las rocas. Las aguas del archipiélago son ricas en nutrientes y son preferidas por los peces tropicales, atunes, barracudas, rayas, delfines, tortugas marinas y tiburones. HOUSTON MARANATHA COMMUNITY CENTER A PROJECT WORTH SUPPORTING

For nearly 20 years the Houston Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church has been dedicated to serving our community. For the past five years and thanks to the support of its Pathfinder Club (young scouts from 10 to 21 years of age) and dozens of certified volunteers, the Houston Maranatha Community Center -HMCC-, a 4-year ministry of the church, has served as a distribution center for the Houston Food Bank in assisting hundreds of low-income families.

During the months of crisis following Hurricane Harvey, the HMCC took a much more significant and impactful direction, providing assistance to many more families in desperate need.

In their quest for better ways to serve low-income families in Houston's inner city, they have embarqued in building a new, larger church and community center, in the Northwest Freeway and Pinemont area (minutes from Fwy. 290 and 610).

Construction has already begun for the Houston Maranatha Commnunity Center. However, the financial resources are not yet enough to complete an adequate center for the challenge of meeting the many needs of the community.

There is even the opportunity to acquire a second land for sale, adjacent to Houston Maranatha Commnunity Center, at a cost of about $ 300,000, which would further expand service and educational opportunities.
