very year Central's African American Club puts on a performance in honor of black history. This year, the club decided on the theme HERstory: Black Girl Magic, which included multiple forms of creative expression from the club members, along with them recognizing the achievements and advancements that African American woman have obtained. The program acknowledged seventeen successful black women who they felt deserved to be noticed. It was directed as black mother and daughter walked through an interactive museum where the girl got to see people who looked like her because the club members believe that representation is important for children to see at a youngage.

he 2018 midterm elections were held on Tuesday November 6th, 2018. The midterm elections took place in the middle of the term of President Donald Trump. The election marked some of the older Central students first time being able to vote. Being contested in the election included 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate, and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives. In addition, there were 39 state and territorial governorships contested, along with many local elections. In the Senate elections the Republicans increased their majority by two seats. While in the House ofRepresentatives elections Democrats won control of the House with again of41 seats. In the state wide Governor election, J.B. Priztker won with 54.5% of the votes. In addition, the local elections were dominated by Democrats as executive, clerk, treasurer, sheriff, auditor, and many board positions were up for election.

From losing by 10 towinning by 10 that didn't define what the Lady Maroons were capable of.They

There were many challenges they hadtofacethroughouttheseason but they only took that as motivation.Inmanygames,the girlsfoughthardthroughout7 innings,butcouldnotquitefinish withawin.Withstartingoffthe seasonwithnon-conference games, the Lady Maroons had to fightwithhardercompetition.In themiddleoftheseasontheLady

7-0. Next was astrong showing at the Bradley Invite going 2-1. The team followed this up with awin over UNI 6-3 and awin over Mattoon 4-1. They then won the Urbana tournament, going 3-0 and beating Mahomet in the finals 5-1. In conference play, the Maroons went 9-2, with key wins over Normal Community 4-0 and Normal U-High 3-2. They were also able to take care of rivals Centennial 4-0, and Urbana 3-1.

In regionals, the team defeated Charleston, and then defeated Urbana in the finals 6-1. In sectionals the team knocked off Jacksonville 2-1, but unfortunately lost to Springfield 2-1 in the finals. Players received multiple awards, Santiago Rodriguez was named All-State, and Peter Wagner, Pablo Diaz, and Reynaldo Zarco were named AllSectional. Santi, Peter, Pablo, and Reynaldo were also all conference players.

Throughout their season, one of theirbiggest goals was tobond as ateam and toget toknow each other.So,theydidseveraldrillsto helpthemachievethatgoal.For example,theteamwentrock climbing which helped them gain courage and confidence. This team bondinghelpedthemoutalot

sotheycouldcompetewell. Although the team was young, they were mostly experienced and hadwrestledinthepastwhich leadtoamoresuccessfulseason. Manyofthewrestlershadinjuries throughouttheseason,butthisdid not stop the team from going out and competing. Even though they lost some teammates, the varsity teamhadawinningpercentageof 55.5%whichwasanimprovement fromlastyear'srecord.

Towards the end ofthe season at Regionals, many wrestlers competedforaspotinthe Sectionalmeet.Theteamhadsix sectionalqualifiers.Twoofthose sectionalqualifiers,DaltonHall andCarterHall,endedupplacing instate.Theseasonwasfilled withmanyupsanddowns,butthe team came out and competed well and they completed several goals that they had made atthe beginning ofthe season.

tCentral High School, there isone choir forstudents thatare interested insinging available. The concert choir rehearses and performs music that includes pop, folk,classical, and other musical literature. This choir consists of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices. During class, students work on vocal training and sight reading skills. The concert choir takes part in community performances. This year the choir performed holiday songs on CI Living in December 10 and sang the National Anthem ataIllini Men's Basketball game on February 5th .They alsodid a"Sounds ofthe Season".

he Marching Maroons Color Guard started practicing on July 30-August 3 at band camp for drumline, pit, and color guard during the summer. They also took part in the band camp for all of the Marching Maroons on August 6-10. The color guard performed the Steampunk Revolution field show along with Central's marching band. They also competed in marching band competitions with the rest of the Marching Maroons in Monticello, Danville, and Champaign where they received best color guard at the divisional and overall level in Danville. The Marching Maroons Color Guard then performed in the Marching Maroons Replay Concert on November 13 and at the Annual Middle School Tour on November 16.

chool ofRock was performed by Central's Drama class during second semester ofthe 2017-2018 school year. School ofRock the musical, was based off ofthe movie with the same name. The musical tells astory about 4wannabe rock star named Dewey Finn, who acts as asubstitute teacher at aprestigious prep school. After he discovers the musical talents ofhis students, he forms arock group with his fifth-grade students and enters them in the Battle ofthe Bands where they did not end up winning. Even though they did not win, the crowd cheered them on to support them and they ended up coming back on stage for an encore performance.

Shrelx

Shrek: The Musical was performed at Central and Centennial by C2 productions, but was originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions. Shrek: The Musical was about the life story of an ogre named Shrek. After being sent to live on his own at the age of 7 by his parents, Shrek found a swap to call his home and figured out how to keep people away. This changed one day when Lord Farquaad banished the fairytale characters out of the Kingdom of Duloc and put them on the swap. The fairytale characters asked Shrek if he would speak to Lord Farquaad to let them back in and he agreed just so he can have his swap back to himself. On the way to Duloc, Shrek meets a talking donkey named Donkey and let him come along on the journey. After meeting Lord Farquaad, Shrek and Donkey went on another journey to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon guarded tower, so Lord Farquaad can marry her and Shrek gets his swap back. At the tower, Donkey was left at the bottom of the tower where he was chased by the dragon and the dragon eventually let him go alive. On the trip back to Duloc with Princess Fiona, Fiona hides away from Shrek and Donkey every night since she turns into an Ogre at night, but Donkey caught her one night and promised not to tell Shrek her secret. Shrek overheard them talking thinking they were talking about him when he went to confess his feelings to Fiona. The next day the three of them arrived in Duloc where Lord Farquaad took Fiona and Shrek went back to his own swap. After some convincing from Donkey and learning about the details of the marriage of Lord Farquaad and Princess Fiona, Shrek went to Duloc to try to stop the wedding. Shrek successfully crashes the wedding and ends up getting married to Fiona after she turned into an Ogre in front of everyone since the sun went down. Shrek and Fiona lived happily ever after on the swap and Donkey with the dragon and the fairy tale characters also got their happy endings. Throughout all of this viewers learn more about the other fairy tale characters and Lord Farquaad.

sk place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692, the town minister named Reverend Parris, discovers his daughter Betty, his niece Abigail Williams, and other girls dancing in the forest with his slave Tituba. Betty fakes fainting scared of being caught and will not wake. The rumor of witchcraft spread throughout the town and a crowd gathered in front of Reverend Parris's house. Worried about his own reputation, Parris questions Abigail about what exactly happened in the forest. Abigail says that they were only dancing but it is later found out that Tituba was trying to conjure dead spirits. While Parris tries to calm down the crowd, a local farmer, John Proctor, and Abigail wind up alone. Abigail was once a servant for John Proctor and she also had an affair with him. Abigail tells him that there is no witchcraft and that he still loves her even though he says he does not. Feeling guilty over the affair, Proctor tells Abigail that it is over. As the crowd begins to sing a hymn downstairs, Betty starts screaming and Parris, Thomas and Ann Putnam, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey come running into Betty's room. An argument about whether or not witchcraft is the cause for Betty's condition begins and soon turns into an argument about other local political issues. Then Reverend Hale, who is a well known investigator of witchcraft, arrives and Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Giles Corey leaves. After being accused of witchcraft by Abigail, Tituba is under threat of punishment if she refuses to confess and she breaks down and confesses she speaks to the devil. Tituba begins to name other witches in the town. Abigail, seeing that she'll be punished unless she joins Tituba in naming names, leaps up and begins to name more witches. Betty then wakes and joins in too. Eight days later, John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth talk about how many people have been wrongly charged with witchcraft. They find out from their servant, Mary Warren,who is one of the girls accusing people around town, that Elizabeth is now accused.

Elizabeth wants John tosay how Abigail islying about everything butfearshemight have lingering feelings forher still. Johngetsmad and repeatedly denies it.During this Reverend Hale arrives toinvestigate theProctors' along Giles Corey and Francis Nurse who have had theirwives accused ofwitchcraft and imprisoned. Authorities latercome totakeElizabeth away. Afterbeing leftalone, Johndemands thatMary expose theothergirlsoftheirfraud andpromises toconfront Abigail. Johnbrings Mary with him tocourtthe nextday toexpose theothergirlsand theothergirls,ledby Abigail, deny thecharge. Inalastattempt, John reveals his affairwith Abigail toshow she ismanipulative anda liar.

To testifheistellingthetruth,Elizabeth iscalled outtosay if it is the truth, since she is said to never lie, but she says no tryingtosave hisname and reputation. The girlsatthistime pretend thatMary isattacking them withherspirit.Mary breaks down andjoinsthem saying John isanallyofthe devil.John isthen arrested and Hale denounces theactions ofthecourtnow believing John Proctor. Angry riotsstartin nearby towns. Afew days before John Proctor andmany others arescheduled tohang, Abigail stealsmoney from Parrisand vanishes. Parrisand Hale trytogettheconvicted people to confess inordertosave theirlives,because Danforth refuses tostoporpostpone theexecutions, saying itwould notbefairtothose already hanged. Danforth lets Elizabeth, who issafefrom hanging due tobeing pregnant, talktoJohn. After speaking withElizabeth, John agrees to confess, butrefuses toincriminate anyone else.Aftersigning his confession, he refuses to hand itover, because his name isallhehas leftand hewon'truin itby signing lies. Danforth says thatifProctor isnothonestly confessing, then hewon't accept theconfession. Proctortearsupthe statement. Parris and Hale arehorror-struck asProctorgoes tothegallows, butElizabeth sayshehasgotten his "goodness" back.

entral High School Art Department offers a variety of different classes such as drawing, graphic design, photography, ceramic sand painting. All students that are interested in taking an art class start off with Art Survey I where they learn elements of art. After one semester of that class, students have the opportunity to take any art class offered at Central. The School offers art survey II, painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, graphic design, cultural arts, and A.P Art. Any student in an art class has the opportunity to put their work in school art shows and local shows. The Art Department also uses Instagram as another way to showcase their students work and to try and grow the art community here are at Central High School.

"Don't Listen to Boys" is a three part series by junior Erlanzoe Mosley. Mosley says this idea came to him after his close friend was having boy trouble. He saw how defensive she was after the heartbreak. He wants to send a message saying that boys are not worth the pain.

The 2018- 2019 yearbook commemorates the memories that were made during the school year. Students will reflect on the year looking through the pages thinking "These were the days". As seniors we reflected on the years that have gone by and reflecting on the friends and connections we have made at CHS. As Juniors we get excited for the freedom of open lunch and having some authority of upperclassmenship. As sophomores you finally have a grip of how high school works and your group of friends. Coming in as a freshman you are full of mixed emotions with starting a new chapter of your life. Just focus on your days here at Central High School and make the most out of them.

What a crazy 2018-2019 year it has been! The 109th edition of the Maroon Yearbook was brought together by a collective group of Central students. Each staff member was able to contribute a little of their days here at Central. This year's staff was made up of many new students who had never taken the class before, including freshman who had the choice of taking Yearbook this year. It was a blast to teach you all and see your improvement.

Thank you VIP for making trips down from Wisconsin to take our portraits, covering sporting events, plays, after school activities, and ect. A huge thank you to Liz Brunson who takes pictures of different events and letting Central use them. Thank you to Illini Studios for allowing us access to to your pictures as well. Thank you to Mrs. Stillman and Mrs. Fears in the Athletic Office for providing all information with sports. Every year the yearbook takes a lot of time and effort to put it all together the way we want it to be. The yearbook staff tries their hardest to make it look its best for all students and the parents here at Central. The staff members come in during study halls, lunch, before and after school, and work at home to make their spreads the best they can be. Hurricane season brings two particularly destructive hurricanes to the eastern coast. Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina in September, bringing record-shattering rain and flooding, while October’s Hurricane Michael, characterized by heavy winds, was the strongest storm to ever hit the panhandle of Florida.
