A hand-crafted memorial made for a muchloved son has been stolen from a Marlborough cemetery. It was a true labour of love, a colourful mosaic bird bath, created to honour Blenheim dad of two Daniel Lyall, 45, who died last year. For months, grieving mum Jenny Lyall worked on the mosaic memorial which was placed near her son’s grave at Fairhall Cemetery’s natural burial section. But after visiting the peaceful plot recently, the Blenheim family were stunned to discover the special tribute had been stolen. Now the heartbroken family are appealing for its safe return. “It’s bought back all the tears and pain we have inside, it never goes away, but the grief does go deeper inside so you can deal with it. “It would mean so much to have it back,” Jenny says. Daniel, who has muscular dystrophy, died on January 24th 2022 after a brave battle. To mark his birthday in September, Jenny put the bird bath in the native garden near where he has been laid to rest.
