This is one of the malls near my mother-in-law’s apartment. You really see the contrast in this area—from narrow alleys where people live in very modest conditions to modern shopping malls like this one. Many of the stores have English names, and you’ll recognize a lot of the same brands you see in U.S. malls, like Gucci and Lancôme. It was interesting to see such different worlds existing so close together.

While in China, we visited the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, a historic site built over 600 years ago during the Ming Dynasty. It was where emperors prayed for good harvests and balance between Heaven and Earth. The circular buildings symbolize heaven, while the square layout represents earth. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a peaceful park that reflects China’s rich spiritual and imperial history.
