Welcome We’re a community school dedicated to widening the world of every single one of our students, both academically and culturally. We are dedicated to always striving ahead and innovating, to make sure that every child entrusted to us is equipped not only for the careers of today, but also those that don’t exist yet. I’m proud to lead a school at the heart of its community. Our students, families, teaching teams, support staff and wider community are united by their shared aim – to create a brighter future for Watton, the surrounding villages and those that call them home.
At Wayland Academy we approach change with a clear focus on the Big IDEA - innovate, discover, explore and activate - rather than rush for quick fixes or knee-jerk responses. Our mission is clear: putting students first, enabling success and building essential life skills. Every day the academy is a rewarding and exhilarating place to lead. Working with students through their time at our academy is a great privilege. Our students in turn inspire others to greater success in the future.

Understanding what makes someone who they are is extremely powerful. From their strengths to their weaknesses, their beliefs to their culture. We can give young people the opportunities to discover who they are and who they want to become, academically and emotionally.

There is a big wide world out there and we want to share it with our pupils. Our teaching goes beyond the classroom, giving them real experiences which allows them to develop the key skills needed to grasp new opportunites, and lead them to a life they love.
We equip our young people with the Supporting them on every step of that journey, overcoming any obstacles and rewarding all success, big or small. So when it’s time to move on they feel like they can take on the world.
Wayland Academy offers a wide range of GCSE and vocational subjects. Curriculum opportunity is not limited for any student.
Curriculum Our curriculum covers a diverse range of subjects to help each student find their passions, and tailor the choice of subjects to their particular strengths. It is important that all students achieve excellence in English, maths and science. We apply focus to numeracy and literacy skills from the moment they enter the academy.
Learning at Wayland Academy During their early years our students study a broad curriculum including English, biology, chemistry, physics, maths, history, geography, French, Spanish, religious education, technology, physical education, art and music.
We guide students as they narrow their studies towards GCSE, ensuring they achieve their goals and make the right choices for them as individuals. Students are allocated to one of four houses, Hero Star, Nelson and Macmillan.
Pastoral care Every student is important and to ensure we identify and support each student’s needs - we have a rich pastoral curriculum. We have tutor time and assemblies to deliver regular updates on a range of subjects including anti-bullying, behaviour, safeguarding and attendance. We also have an excellent special educational needs department. It’s important to us that every child has the best school experience possible.
Community Over staff work closely with local charities to raise awareness and funding.
Charity work Charity work is a vital part of the curriculum as it helps children understand the world around them and increases their awareness of issues in the local community and beyond.
(PALS) Pupils Advising, Listening and Support Group As part of our Big IDEA, we plan half termly charity events for local charities. These events are planned and delivered by our students. The student group
Pupils Advising, Listening & Supporting (PALS), in addition to prefects, provide an additional presence to ensure that all students feel safe in the academy.
Junior Leadership Team Our school has a Head Boy and Head Girl that represent our academy at events and lead our Junior Leadership Team. They’re an important part of our school community. We also encourage students to get involved in our Student Council. They help to plan events, suggest improvements, support community projects and oversee charity work.
