Welcome to The Hewett Academy I’m immensely proud to be the Principal of The Hewett Academy. Leading my local school - and one that is at the heart of the community - is a privilege. My team is committed to giving each and every child the best start in life and we work hard together to encourage our students, help them to find their talents and be the best they can be. We aspire for our students to achieve academic excellence. We want them to have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the world of work or at university. But we also know that education is about so much more than that. It is also about cherishing our emotional, social, and cultural lives. Our students work as a team on the sports field; perform as a family in the concert hall; and collaborate to support our wider community. We want to make sure every child leaves our school as happy, confident individuals who love and cherish themselves, and each other. I look forward to welcoming you soon. Antony Little

Our community How we care for your child Students at our academy are supported by our dedicated pastoral team. They help students to overcome challenges, offer support and make sure they enjoy their time at our school. Each student will be part of a tutor group and see their form teacher every day at registration. Our form teachers get to know the students really well and soon build a rapport with them. They look out for their students - helping with problems, organisation, life’s difficulties and have a role in making sure they achieve their potential. Our students are rewarded with house points for their achievements. These are collected for good work and behaviour.
Our Houses The school is divided into three Houses Colman, Gurney and Jewson - named after former Lord Mayors of Norwich. These are led by the Head of House and Assistant Head of House who also oversee behaviour, attendance and academic progress. The Houses work together to achieve house points and take part in competitions. There is a fierce, but friendly, rivalry between them!
Breakfast club We have a free breakfast club open every day from 8am to get students ready for another day of learning.

Exciting enrichment opportunities We offer lots of enrichment opportunities - many of our students continue to get involved in school life outside of lessons.
We also host lots of House competitions, from swimming and football, to the annual spelling bee.
We run clubs and societies ranging from sports to theatre productions and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Whatever your child’s interest and talents, you’ll find something at The Hewett Academy.

School council We encourage our students to have their say, get involved and help us plan the future for our school. We also have an elected Head Boy and Head Girl to represent The Hewett Academy at events.

Our students are at the heart of the school. We have a school council with representatives from each year and each house. They discuss the big issues to help make the school even better.

About our curriculum We have a broad knowledge-rich curriculum - which means our students have lots of opportunities and subject choices. We believe children should be able to develop their talents - whatever they may be. Alongside our strong core subjects, we’re proud to dedicate a large proportion of our curriculum to the arts subjects, offer a wide range of sporting opportunities, foreign languages and design technology. Our Year 7 Curriculum: English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Spanish, Design Technology, PSHE, Music, Art, Drama, RE and PE. At GCSE all students study English, English Literature, Maths, Science (Double or Triple) and have core PE. They then have 4 choices from a wide variety of subjects including History, Geography, French, Spanish, Design Technology, Art, RE, Sport, Statistics, ICT and Further Maths - there really is something for everybody!

Friends of Hewett Friends of Hewett is a parent-led registered charity (1187100) fundraising to create events and opportunities to enrich our school environment, promote wellbeing, build confidence and empower every Hewett Academy student to fulfill their potential. Founded in September 2019 by three parents, Friends of Hewett has raised over ÂŁ100,000 in the academic year 19/20.

Parent volunteers have created a welcoming community lounge within the school to support student wellbeing and encourage families to connect with the school.
The Friends of Hewett charity is financially entirely separate to the school and the Inspiration Trust. it is parent-run, but works closely with school leadership to support our school to thrive.
Other events have included the creation of an ecogarden and the provision of support to families during the Covid-19 crisis including gifts of art materials,
