Hymers resoundingly meets all inspection standards Following a rigorous inspection from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in November 2025, we are delighted to announce their findings that Hymers College meets all five of the ISI standards. As you will observe, ISI does not give qualitative feedback in their evaluation - the inspection standards are either “met” or “not met.” Despite this, you will undoubtedly share our delight in the plentiful and
varied examples of excellent practice to be found at Hymers, such as our “supportive and inclusive” pupil body, the “stimulating opportunities and interesting lessons” provided by our “specialist staff”, and the “nurturing environment” fostered by our school community.
Pupils demonstrate responsible and independent attitudes towards learning. ~ Pupils are kind and supportive towards each other in their daily interactions. ~ Pupils in Years 10 to 13 receive a well-planned and well-considered careers programme which provides them with opportunities for work. ~ Pupils develop leadership skills and learn it is morally responsible to provide help, support and friendship to others. ~ Pupils understand that exercise and participation in sport positively support their mental and physical health. ~ Leaders and staff adopt a vigilant approach to safeguarding throughout the school. ~ Teachers plan and teach interesting lessons.
Leadership, management and governance + Pupils’ wellbeing is actively promoted throughout the school in line with the school’s aims and ethos. + Pupils’ behaviour is managed and supported effectively. + The educational experience considers pupils’ needs carefully. + Early years provides a nurturing and stimulating environment.
Quality of education, training and recreation + A well-planned and suitably broad curriculum is matched carefully to the needs of pupils. + The suitability and effectiveness of the curriculum is continually monitored. + Teachers have secure subject knowledge and plan lessons well. + Effective opportunities are provided for pupils to demonstrate responsible and motivated attitudes towards their learning.

Pupils’ physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing + The school’s pastoral care results in pupils developing self-esteem and a confident approach to their education.
+ Pupils learn to develop an effective understanding of spirituality and morality. + PSHE education is carefully planned to teach pupils relevant topics in an age-appropriate manner. + The school has a broad and inclusive PE curriculum, which promotes active participation. + Pupils understand the harm that can be caused by prejudiced and discriminatory, bullying behaviour.
Pupils’ social and economic education and contribution to society + Pupils learn about diversity, inclusion and respect, which fosters a balanced and mature perspective. + Pupils are well prepared to make a positive contribution to British and global society. + Pupils are encouraged to hold positions of responsibility and to offer service, support and help to others. + Pupils develop effective leadership skills, self-esteem and confidence.
Safeguarding + A robust safeguarding culture is promoted. + Staff demonstrate a confident understanding of how to respond to safeguarding concerns. + Effective systems exist for pupils to seek support and pupils are taught the importance of requesting help. + Pupils receive effective guidance relating to online safety. I am delighted the school has received such a positive report from the inspection team. ISI has recognised that at Hymers we are successful in our aim to inspire and challenge our pupils, whilst supporting them throughout with outstanding, personalised care. This affirmation is testament to the continued dedication, hard work and talents of pupils and staff alike. The Hymers community is very special and recognition of this kind only serves to reinforce the exceptional character of the school. However, we do not rest on our laurels and continue to develop, challenge ourselves and evolve to ensure that Hymers continues to be the outstanding school of which we are all so proud.
